Chapter 123

Jane noticed a malice gaze.

She turned around.

“My gosh.

“Isn’t that Layne Croft?”

As much as Jane wanted to, there was no way she could avoid her enemies.

Jane puckered her brows.

It should be a happy day for her.

However, she felt that she had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed that day.

She had encountered all kinds of irritating people since she left home.

She did not remember much about Layne.

Because they had little to do with each other in the past.

Madelyn had played innocent in front of the Fowlers and caused them to mistreat Jane.

That was Medelyn’s ace move that had harmed Jane the most.

Jane used to be engaged to Layne who was also Madelyn’s back-burner guy.

-Madelyn was smart enough not to let him interact too much with Jane, in case something

beyond her

control happened.

In the past five years, Jane and Layne had only met a few times.

Every time they met, Layne would tell Jane either not to ***his little Maddie or that he would

never marry her.

At that time, Jane didn’t care.

She had told Layne countless times that she was not interested in him and he shouldn’t

think too much.

However, Layne was a hopeless narcissistic man.

He had not listened at all.

Jane shot a quick glance at him and looked away.

She was in a good mood, so she did not want to bother that ***.

Layne noticed Jane’s indifferent gaze.

He was suddenly ******off.

Then, he recalled seeing Jane chatting and laughing happily with Connor earlier on.

“Hmph.

“***, are you playing hard to get with me?

Layne had seen too many women like Jane who pretended to be uninterested and gave him

shoulder. In fact, they had long coveted the Croft family’s power.

Originally, Layne wanted to ignore Jane.

However, he thought of what happened to Luna Croft.

Jane was watching Lila singing on stage.

Suddenly, Layne walked over and sat nearby her.

He even took the initiative to talk to Jane.

“Jane, this is the first time we’ve actually met.

“When I wasn’t in Stormton City, I heart that you’ve caused a lot of trouble in the Fowler

and the Croft families.”

Layne tried to speak in a calm tone.

But Jane did not listen to him at all.

She was watching Lila’s performance with full attention.

Layne frowned unconsciously and cursed in his mind.

“You ***.

“You obviously heard me.

“But you deliberately ignore me.

“Too much of this ‘play hard to get’ game. People will get **** of it, Jane!”

In the private room on the third floor, Larry and Peter saw that scene.

“Peter, isn’t that Layne? I remember he is engaged to Jane. Isn’t he Jane’s fiancé?”

Larry knew about that because it had blown into a big hoo-ha.

Layne loved Madelyn and wanted to marry no one except her.

Not only he, his family, and the Fowler family were all very supportive of their marriage.

Layne and Madelyn were childhood sweethearts. They basically grew up together and had a

very deep relationship.

There was no other couple who were more compatible than these two in terms of family

background, looks, and many other things,

It was natural for them to be together, and everyone was happy to see that.

However, things between this great couple everyone adored had become awkward because

of

Madelyn’s rejection.

Madelyn felt that as an adopted daughter, the Fowler family had given her too much.

Layne was engaged to Jane Fowler. She just could not steal Jane’s fiancé.

At that time, nobody knew whether Jane was alive or dead as she had been missing for 19

years.

Madelyn would never accept Layne until Jane’s status was confirmed.

Therefore, she had been shunning him.

No one would blame Madelyn.

They would just think that she was too kind-hearted and *****.

She rather gave up her own happiness for a sister who had probably died.

In the end, Jane was found.

It was even more unlikely for Madelyn and Layne to be together.

Back then, Peter had complained to Larry that Madelyn had to break up with Layne whom

she was so deeply in love with because Jane had come back.

Jane was a third party, a villain who broke the couple apart simply because of the pact

made by the previous generation.

Thinking of that, Larry could not help but take a few glances at Peter.

Peter’s face was grim.

Obviously, he recalled how he had disparaged Jane in front of Larry.

His words were vicious.

And he regretted it so much now that he wished he could travel back in time and give that

wicked Peter Fowler a loud slap.

“It’s him… I’m worried that he approaches Jane to harm her.”

“Ah? I don’t think so… Isn’t this the first time they meet each other?

“Besides, Jane has cut off ties with the Fowler family. Their engagement is off, isn’t it? Why

would Layne want to approach Jane?”

Peter didn’t answer.

He could not tell Larry that Luna had knelt down and barked like a dog.

Peter also found out on the Internet that Jane had taken a video of that and had yet to

expose it.

Because of that, Luna went to Harbor City to hide from her.

He wondered if Layne knew what had happened to his sister.

“If he has found out, he must be approaching Jane with an ulterior motive.” Peter thought.

Meanwhile, in the seats, Layne raised his voice. “Jane!”

Jane felt a slight headache.

She turned around and looked at Layne with annoyance.

“Have you no ***?”

“What… what did you say?”

Layne narrowed his eyes which gleamed with dangerous intent.

“Can’t you see that I’m ignoring you? Why are you sitting near me and talking to me?

“Mr. Narcissist, you’re so obnoxious!”

Jane finally said those harsh words to Layne.

She had wanted to say that to him countless times in her previous life.

But on the other hand, she admired Layne’s courage.

Layne looked so ordinary.

However, he was overly confident.

Jane did not know where his confidence come from.

“Does he think he is gold and loved by everyone? No one will let go of him no matter

what?” Jane thought.

Layne was stunned.

That was the first time in his life someone had the audacity to talk to him that way and said

that he was an obnoxious narcissistic man.

Layne was not Mr. Narcissist.

He came from the purest bloodline of the Croft family. He was a handsome man with

impeccable education and great ambitions. There was literally nothing he couldn’t do.

No second-generation rich trash could compare with him.

He was someone who could surpass Hugh.

When women saw him, they would succumb to his good look, family background, and

ability.

That was what Layne thought of himself.

However, looking at Jane’s irritated expression, he could not find a word to defend himself.

He could only comfort himself that Jane purposely infuriated him to attract his attention.

“Janie!”

Lila finished her performance and came to meet her best friend. She said happily, “Oh, this

feels great. Did you watch me sing? How was my singing?”

“You were fantastic. Alright, if there’s nothing else, let’s get out of here and go to another

place.”

“What? Why? It is so sudden.”

Lila was a little surprised.

Then, her gaze landed on Layne.

Layne subconsciously straightened his body.

He gazed at Lila at a diagonal angle and took up an ***, domineering, and flawless posture.

He wanted to show Jane that the man she had just humiliated was a rare treasure.

He wasn’t the narcissist that she said.

“Janie, did this guy hit on you just now? He looks so smug.

“Thi kind of narcissistic man is just obnoxious.”

Lila’s voice wasn’t loud.
