Chapter 200 Tommy had always been an ignorant person. All he knew how to do was eat, drink, gamble, and play with women. Before, he had gotten into a fight over a woman and almost gone to prison. He only managed to escape imprisonment with Deborah's help. Deborah wasn't helping him out of kindness, rather she wanted to use Loraine. As expected, she did not let Deborah down.

Tommy did nothing all day. Loraine was worried that her son would go down the wrong path again so she asked Deborah to help him find a job.

It took Deborah a lot of tto find a job for Tommy. He was uneducated yet he picky with his work. He wanted an easy yet high paying job. Deborah successively found several jobs for him but he would always mess them up. In the end, she had no choice but to hire him as Steven's driver. Tommy had always been on the lower end of society. He was so happy when he heard from his mother that he had been hired to serve a high-end figure. Although he was merely a driver, it was rare for an ordinary person to be in such close contact with a high-end figure. When people who knew Tommy heard that he was going to be Mr. Cook's driver, they all admired him and looked up to him. Due to that, Tommy felt arrogant and only then did he start to put in a lot of effort into doing his job well.

With Tommy's character, kissing up to someone was nothing new to him. Steven had a good impression of him due to his wits.

However, recently, Steven had started to dislike Tommy. The other day Director Lewis had cto talk to Steven about business. In their conversation, he brought up Tommy.

"Is Tommy Lewis your driver?" "Yes. Why?" Steven asked. His intuition told him that Tommy must have done something to be under the police's radar.

"The other day, we held a raid and arrested quite a few prostitutes. One of the clients who frequented that place had the sname." "What did you say?" Steven's expression changed. Although Tommy was just his driver, it would not be good for his reputation if word got out. People would assthat Steven himself was involved in those kinds of matters too.

"The police officers had wanted to arrest him, but he brought up your nand said that he was your driver. The officers checked and found that he was telling the truth. They didn't want to drag your ninto the mud so they let him go. A couple days later, he was caught again in another nightclub with drugs. It's happened twice in a row so I thought I had better cgive you a heads up. As they say, a leopard can never change its spots. If he really is your driver, you'd better be more cautious. Try not to be seen with him anymore and save yourself the trouble." Steven nodded, "I see. Thank you for the heads up." After Director Lewis left, Steven frowned. As the saying went, 'a rotten apple spoils the barrel', Tommy could not work under him anymore.

Naturally, Steven was not one to drag things on. He quickly fired Tommy. After that, Tommy told Loraine about it, who immediately called Deborah.

Deborah was taken aback too. She wondered if Steven had becsuspicious of anything. Could it be that he had found out that Tommy had been carrying out her bidding? She had not asked him to do much, apart from keeping an eye on Steven and having him throw Eden into the ditch near the hospital previously. The likelihood of Steven knowing about those incidents was rather low.

That evening, Steven cback with a new driver. Naturally, Deborah asked him, "Why have you changed your driver? What happened to Tommy?" "Don't even bring him up. He can't work foranymore," Steven told her about Tommy's indulgences in prostitutes and drugs. Deborah was relieved, as there were no suspicions about her. She told Loraine about what he said and asked her to relax.

When Loraine heard that her son's dismissal had nothing to do with him helping Deborah, she was relieved too. She had managed to accrue quite a lot of money from working for the Myers family over the years. Since her son had nothing else to do now, she intended to let him run a business.

Tommy knew nothing about running a business, and he did not know what kind of business he wanted to run. Lorraine suggested opening a supermarket. Tommy originally agreed but after discussing with his friend, his friend said that a supermarket was too small of a plan. Considering his background, Tommy's friend suggested that he open something more thrilling, like a bar or a nightclub.

Tommy's eyes lit up when he heard how much bars and nightclubs could earn. He thought about how much he usually spent on drinks when he frequented those places and felt like that line of business was indeed very profitable.

He told Loraine about his idea. When Loraine heard about how much profit they could earn, she got carried away as well and asked him how much they would need to open a bar or a nightclub.

Tommy actually had no idea, but he told Loraine it would take about a million dollars. Loraine was shocked and asked, "Why does it take so much money?" "This is just for a standard, mediocre nightclub. If we were to open a high-end one, we would need even more." Tommy explained, "I've asked my friend. He toldthat one of his friends has opened a mediumend night club, and they earn hundreds and thousands of dollars in profits in one night alone. We will make all the money back in a year." "Is it really that profitable?" Loraine was a little disbelieving, "Let's leave that aside for now. I'll ask around before deciding." Loraine meant to ask Edric. His business was booming and he was a genius in the field. She wanted to see what he would say.

That night when Edric returned home, Loraine purposely asked him about nightclubs. She told him that her friend wanted to open one but she was not sure if it would be profitable. Edric smiled faintly, "This line of business is quite profitable. I often bring clients there. It's not unusual to spend tens of thousands in a night. Their profits are all very high." When Loraine heard Edric mention that he often spent up to tens of thousands of dollars, her eyes lit up. She had gotten confirmation that this business was profitable, so she agreed to her son's request.

However, she couldn't withdraw such a huge sum in one go. She asked her son to look for a suitable location first. Tommy and a bunch of friends immediately went to hunt around and they just so happened to have met someone who was looking to sell his nightclub. The nightclub was already furnished and it was in a strategic location. The owner said that with good management, they could earn millions in a year easily. The owner was leaving the country, so he wanted to sell his nightclub off at a cheap price.

Tommy was very tempted by his offer. The owner sincerely wanted to let the nightclub go. He even let Tommy visit it to see how business was doing. Tommy stayed at the nightclub for an entire night and saw that business was indeed booming. He grew even more tempted.

The owner offered to sell it for 1.2 million dollars. However, Tommy did not have that much money. Loraine had been working for the Myers family for nine years, with her bonus and Deborah's additional salary, she only had about five hundred thousand dollars in total.

Five hundred thousand dollars was miles away from 1.2 million dollars.

They did not have the funds so Loraine could only persuade Tommy to give it up However, the prospect of obtaining the high earnings was overly tempting to Tommy so he refused to listen to her. He asked Loraine to borrow smoney from Edric. However Loraine did not dare to ask. Then, Tommy asked her to borrow sfrom Deborah. After all, they had both done so much for Deborah. Loraine had no choice but to go talk to Deborah. Deborah was fuming when she heard the amount Loraine was asking for. How dare the b*tch ask for such a huge amount? Borrowing her that much money? Seeing that Deborah did not reject nor suspect her, Loraine left. Deborah went hangrily. She told Lily about what happened, "That old b*tch, she's so greedy. What is she talking about, opening a nightclub? As if she knows how to run one." Lily saw Deborah was angry and consoled her repeatedly. However, she was shocked when she asked Deborah for the nof the nightclub, "Mom, I've been to that nightclub before. Their business really is excellent! If she really managed to take over successfully, she could earn millions in a year."
