Maia noticed that she was backed against the door. There was nowhere else she could go.
Cedric frowned in disapproval at Maia’s behaviour. “Come here.”
Maia did not give in as she continued to put distance between them.
“Come here!”
“Cedric, I won’t come closer to you. I won’t give you a chance to take advantage of me. If you want to say something, say it while
you’re on the bed. Besides, it’s not like you could walk
over.” Maia said while adding the last part softly.
He smiled at her childish provocations. He immediately threw off the covers with an arm, walked briskly toward her and carried
her over to the bed.
Before Maia could react, she was already sitting on the bed. She was shocked by his actions as she looked at him wide–eyed.
“Your legs? I thought you had a fracture?”
Cedric only grinned cheekily in response.
Maia looked at his mischievous reaction and recalled what the doctor had told her after he was done with his surgery.
“It’s only a minor injury.”.
“So, the doctor was on your side?”
“That’s right.”
Cedric smiled at her as she had clearly forgotten all about their contract. “I’m just playing into Tess’s plan.”
“You’re referring to the rights to Starlight Entertainment? Was this what Aunt Tess had wanted? Our accident was also
suspicious. Was she the one that had planned it? What was her motive? To kill us just for the company?”
If Tess was the mastermind behind everything that had happened, what was it that she wanted? If it was just Starlight
Entertainment, she honestly did not have to go through such. complicated means to get it.
Cedric narrowed his eyes dangerously, “We’ll have to ask her.”
“How?”
Cedric smirked at Maia. Maia knew that look. She was sure that he had something up sleeve. Before Maia could ask, Cedric
handed her his cell phone.

“Cedric, are you okay? What happened? I almost got a heart attack when I heard that you were hurt in an accident.”
“I’m fine,” Cedric replied coldly as he stared at Rita.
Rita quickly changed her approach as she saw how cold Cedric was to her. She faked a smile and asked Maia, “Are you okay? I
was in a rush to get home to change after the incident at the restaurant. I didn’t mean to leave you at the restaurant alone.

Maia could not help but feel disgusted by Rita’s acting. She had to swallow her distaste and smile at her warmly, “We’re fine,
Rita. Cedric has a fractured leg though. He needs to be in a wheelchair for a while.”
“What?” Rita cried as she stared at Cedric’s cast. Her eyes were red and tearing up.
Maia studied Rita’s crying face in surprise. She did not expect her to tear up. She was also confused at how strange the situation
was as Rita did not look sad enough to tear up for her
son.
“Rita, please don’t cry. You’re making me sad too. This is all my fault, I shouldn’t have asked Cedric to come pick me up.” Mala
continued to humour Rita.
“No, dear, I’m sure it wasn’t your fault. No one wanted something like this to happen. The most important thing is that you are
both safe,” Rita said as she dried her tears.
“I’m sorry for making you worry. We should have taken better care of ourselves.” Maia blinked repeatedly to make herself cry.
Cedric stared at the two in amusement. He was impressed with Maia’s acting skills. It was quite an interesting battle between the
two. However, he could not help but feel his heart ache as he saw Maia tearing up.
“We need to rest, so you should leave,” he said to Rita.
Rita’s hand froze mid–air as she questioned, “Why would you ask me to leave? I just got here.”
“You’ve seen how we are, so there’s nothing for you to worry about. You have no reason to stay any longer.” Cedric’s rude words
humiliated Rita.
