Chapter 172 She Was Wary of Him!
The moment the window was ajar, she jumped out. Right at that second, the door to the game room opened as well. The
shadowy figure lifted his hunting gun and pointed it at his prey.
Maia did not know what was happening behind her as she dashed as fast as she could without looking back. There was nothing
she could do aside from run for her life!
The
rain continued to pour and water splashed onto her as she ran. Maia’s eyes were red, and her legs were threatening to give way
as she could feel her adrenaline pumping from the fear.
Seconds later, the man fired a shot as Maia tripped and fell to the ground. The bullet missed her by an inch, hitting a tree trunk
and falling to the ground with a clink sound.
Maia pushed herself up as she knew that the man would try to fire another time. She had to keep moving. She needed to get out
of firing range!
Maia trembled in fear as tears and rain streamed down her face. She ran as far as she could. At that moment, 3 minutes seemed
like an eternity. Maia did not know if she would be able to hold out until Cedric got here.
As her body felt heavier and heavier, Maia tripped on something and was about to fall when a pair of strong arms grabbed her.
Her nose hit a sturdy chest as she was pulled into a warm embrace. Cedric’s hands covered her ears as shots were fired.
The perpetrator’s hunting gun dropped as he was shot in the thigh and arm. He fell to the ground in the game room.
“Baz!” Cedric cried and threw his handgun to him.
Baz caught it and nodded his head as he instructed the bodyguards to move into the game room and restrain the perpetrator.

Cedric frowned as he scooped Maia up in his arms. She felt safe there. He had protected her once again, and on this rainy night,

her once cold heart started to beat for him again.
His hair was completely soaked as the rainwater framed his face. Maia could see that his eyes were filled with worry and fear.
Was Cedric even capable of feeling fear? She had always thought that nothing was able to scare
him.
He carried her all the way into the house and up into the bathroom on the third floor.
Maia finally found her voice as she insisted, “P–put me down. I can do it on my own.”
Although she was still afraid, she insisted on doing it herself.

Cedric did not reject her request even though he was still frowning. He placed her gently on the ground and prepared fresh
clothes for her to change into.
He
gave her one last hug before leaving. “I’ll be right outside if you need me.”
Maia was surprised at how he knew that she was still afraid, and how he offered to stay close.
“No, it’s okay. That man has been caught, so I’ll be safe now. You’re wet and there’s a wound on your arm. You should get
changed and dress your wound too.” Maia replied gently.

“Hurry and go have a warm bath.”
“You should do the same too.”
“Is that an invitation?” Cedric lifted an eyebrow and smirked at her.
“That’s not what I meant!” Maia said, knowing that he was teasing her. She quickly went into the bathroom and locked the door.
Cedric smiled at her reaction. When he realized what she had done, his smile turned into a scowl. She was wary of him! What
did she take him for? A wolf?
he was not sure if Cedric was still
Inside the bathroom, Maia leaned against the door as outside or not. After checking that she had locked the door, she walked

toward the bathtub and started stripping
She moved fast as she cleaned herself and changed into fresh clothing. Suddenly, a click was heard and the lights in the
bathroom went off.
Maia was surprised as she slipped and fell into the bathtub. This commotion attracted Cedric’s attention as he knocked the door
loudly to check if she was okay.
Maia did not respond immediately as she was still struggling to get up. Another loud bang came from the door as Cedric had
managed to kick it open.
In the darkness, she could see a man still dressed in wet clothing walking toward her in a hurry. Before she could say a thing,
Cedric had already pulled her into his arms.

The bath towel that was wrapped loosely around her body was gone as he hugged her naked body tightly against his wet
clothes. Maia stiffened as she could feel the warmth coming from
him.
“Cedric, I’m okay. Let go of me.”
When Cedric released her from his embrace, the bathroom lights came back. Footsteps were heard running toward the
bathroom as Baz informed his boss urgently.
“Mr. Cedric, there’s a problem with the power due to the thunderstorm outside. We’ve already

Since the lights came back on, Mala could not help but panic as she heard Baz’s voice. She tried to hide herself as she snuggled
closer into Cedric’s embrace.
“I think the power’s back. Is your bedroom okay?” Baz asked as he entered the bathroom. He froze on the spot as he noticed his
boss and Maia in a compromising position.
Cedric hugged Mala tightly and blocked her from Baz’s view as he told Baz to get lost in a cold,
scary tone
Baz turned pale and he ran out of the bathroom in an instant!
The bathroom was filled with an awkward silence as the only thing that could be heard was their breathing.
Maia was embarrassed as a tint of red appeared across her fair complexion. To Cedric, she was the personification of beauty as
she looked both innocent yet alluring..
