Chapter 142 Are You Afraid?
Fernando looked at Hans and shook his head helplessly.
“Mr. Larkin is constantly asking for something sweet. We’ve agreed that he could only have some once a week, but I’ve caught
him stealing dessert from the kitchen a few times. I had no choice but to report this to Mr. Cedric and from then on, he hadn’t
spoken to me for a few days.”
“Don’t worry about it. It’s grandpa’s fault for not keeping his promise. If he continues to refuse talking to you, then you should just
ignore him too!” Maia said, intentionally speaking loud enough so that Hans could hear them.
Hans quickly stood up and tip–toed to the kitchen door as he continued to eavesdrop on their conversation.
Maia knew Hans was already listening to them behind the door and continued. “I think grandpa is also angry at me now since he
refuses to talk to me too. Such a shame, he can’t have these cream puffs and the pudding I brought! Why don’t you help me
finish them?”
“I’d love to, Mrs. Larkin!”
“Fernando, just call me Maia.” Maia was no longer Cedric’s wife, so it was only natural to call her Maia instead.
When Hans heard that he would not be able to get a share of Maia’s desserts he was instantly
upset.
“Maia used to be such a sweet girl. Cedric is such a horrible influence on her!” Hans said, annoyed. “When he gets here later, I’ll
give him a piece of my mind. How could he turn my sweet Maia into this!”
“Is someone else coming over too?” Maia asked as she came out of the kitchen.
“Nope, no one!” Hans was surprised by Maia suddenly appearing behind him.
Maia eyed him suspiciously as she pointed at the pudding she brought. “Grandpa, if you don’t tell me, you won’t be getting any of
this.”

Desserts were too tempting for Hans as he decided to betray Cedric after being threatened by
Maia.
“It’s Cedric. He’s coming over to see me.” Hans eyed the pudding in Maia’s hands. “I’ve told you my secret. Now, can I have my
share?”
Maia frowned as she set the pudding of the table. “Grandpa, I’m leaving now. Enjoy the pudding and cream puffs. I’ll come back
and see you next time!”

Maia strolled briskly toward the couch, grabbed her bag, and hurried toward the entrance. As she was focused on leaving as
soon as possible, she did not notice someone in front of her as she collided into his chest.
Maia gasped in pain as she fell back a few steps before a hand grabbed her elbow to steady her.
“Be careful!”
Maia was surprised at how fast he got here.
“Cedric, you’re here! Come on over and try this pudding Maia made!” Hans demanded as he finished his share in a blink of an
eye.
Cedric looked at his grandfather sitting in the dining room and smiled at him before returning

gaze to Maia who was standing in front of him.

“Why were you in such a rush? You should be careful.”
Maia rolled her eyes at him. Was it not obvious that she was trying to avoid him? She made an excuse. “Something came up at
the office. I need to get back as soon as possible.”
Cedric smiled playfully. “You sure it’s the office and not me?”
Maia was surprised at his candor. She frowned in annoyance as she would not admit that she wanted to leave because of him!
“You’re not all that important,” she said, tersely.

At that moment, Hans limped toward them with his walking stick and added cheerfully, “If it isn’t Cedric that’s making you
uncomfortable, then you should stay for dinner! My chef is quite good, and you can even make something sweet for me after
dinner too!”
“Mr. Larkin, you’ve already had 3 cream puffs and a bowl of pudding.” Fernando commented. He was trying his best to stop Hans
from eating too many sweets.
“Fine. If Maia would stay for dinner, I promise I won’t have any more sweets!” Hans said while looking at Maia pleadingly.
“Grandpa, I really have to go.” Maia knew she was not a very good liar, especially since it was to Hans who was trying to make
her stay. She could never forget how kind he was to her when she was his granddaughter–in–law.

He was the only one who would take her side when everyone in the household was against her. He had always protected her.
However, Maia really did not want to be in the same room as
Cedric.
Hans huff in annoyance as he exposed her lies unsparingly. “Maia, you just got here, and it’s the weekend. What’s so important
at work that you couldn’t even spare a few hours for me?”

Cedric could not help but smile as he listened to his grandfather’s speech. Moments later, he pulled Maia into his embrace as he
whispered, “Are you that afraid of me?”
Maia could feel her cheeks flush red as she felt his breath against her skin. She tried to push him away but to no avail.
“Let go of me!”
“Are you afraid that you would fall in love with me again?”
“Get real! I’ve already told you I won’t!”
“So, does that mean you’re just lying to get out of here?” Cedric smirked and teased her.
Maia frowned as she could tell that he was insulting her.
“Maia, you and Cedric are such a great match. Both of you are just as sly and cunning!” Hans added, smiling.
Maia turned toward him. “Grandpa, I just fed you with your favorite cream puffs and pudding. How could you say such things to
me?”
“Don’t worry. Grandpa wouldn’t make fun of his own granddaughter–in–law, right?” Cedric said gently.
“Of course not!” Hans nodded eagerly.
Maia could only frown as she felt that she had been played by the two.
