hapter 119 The Kiss of Life

Cedric gave Baz an order. “Search for the cat, Baz.”

“The cat?” Baz’s face was blank for a while before he caught on to what Cedric meant.

It wasn’t human, so it couldn’t talk. However, he had to track it down. It might prove useful!

“Roger. I’ll send some men to look for it.”

The air of hostility about Cedric was unmistakable. “I’ll kill anyone who touches her!”

It was pitch dark. A revolting smell of blood and osmanthus lingered in the air.

Maia’s head felt heavy. She pulled herself up and the memory of what happened came flooding into her

mind.

She had been on her way back to her homestay when someone covered her mouth with a rag. Then,

she passed out.

Maia couldn’t make out her surroundings. She caught a whiff of the revolting scent and nearly threw

1. up.

She wasn’t sure if it was day or night. She started exploring once her eyes adjusted to the darkness.

A barely visible figure caught her attention. Maia stopped in her tracks and crept closer.

She wasn’t sure what it was, but she was completely dumbstruck when she was near the figure. It was

a human!

Maia was so shocked that she forgot how to scream.

She ran toward the door, but her legs gave out and she fell to the ground. The pain was

excruciating.

She needed to get out. Maia gritted her teeth, mustering all her strength to stand limped toward the

exit.

1. up.

She

She pushed open the heavy doors.

It was dawn.

Maia drew a deep breath and looked back into the warehouse.

It was Zera!

Her legs shook when she saw how bruised Zera’s face was. She slumped onto the floor.

How did this happen…? Why was Zera here?!

Maia shook her head in fear. She couldn’t believe this!

“On your feet!”

Out of nowhere, someone spoke from behind her.

Maia was startled. Then, a familiar face appeared before her.

Cedric pulled her up before she could do anything. He held her in his arms and helped her stand.

“Are you hurt?”

“I–I’m fine.” She pointed to the warehouse, “Zera’s lying on the floor. I don’t know what happened to

her. She was already there when I woke up!”

Cedric merely looked at Zera from afar and said, “She’s dead.”

“H–Huh?” Maia was shocked beyond words, “She’s dead? How can that be? How did you find me?”

“The cat helped.”

“The cat?” Maia was dumbstruck. “What do you mean?”

“Follow me.” Cedric looked at her ripped jeans and saw her injured ankles. Then, he picked her up.

Cedric squinted and said right after he turned around, “It’s too late.”

Maia was completely out of it. First, he appeared out of nowhere. Then, he said he found her through

the cat and wanted to take her away in a hurry. Now, he was saying it’s too late.

“I don’t get it, Cedric.” She followed his gaze and saw that the Stonebrook police and crew were

running toward them.

“Did you stop to think why you were in the same warehouse as Zera?”

Maia paused before it hit her. “Are you trying to say that someone killed Zera and kidnapped me

because he was trying to frame me for murder?” 1

Cedric chuckled. She was quick on the uptake, as usual.

The police checked that Zera was indeed dead. Then, they called forensics and approached Maia with

handcuffs. “Pardon me, Ms. Maia. You’ll have to come down to the station with us.”

She had nothing to do with Zera’s demise. The culprit framed her for it!

“Put me down,” Maia said to Cedric.

However, he had no intention to. Instead, he said to the police, “She’s hurt. She can’t really walk. I’m

staying with her.”

Maia gawked at him, as did everyone else.

Cedric, on the other hand, grinned, “I was with her when you guys arrived on the scene. So, you should

take my statement too. If she’s convicted, then I’m her accomplice.”

He’d be her accomplice for the rest of his life. It was a powerful statement.

Cedric carried Maia in his arms and left with the police as everyone stared. He never loosened his grip

on her.

The police brought him a first aid kit and he skillfully treated her wounded ankle.

“Does it hurt?” He couldn’t bear it even if it only hurt her a little.

Maia shook her head in silence before saying stiffly, “Thank you.”

“Are you really thanking me?”

Maia nodded, “You cleaned up my wound. I owe you an expression of gratitude.”

“I

guess you’re right.” He held her head and kissed her..

She was about to slap him when she realized what happened, but he had already held her slender

wrist firmly.

“Why are you hitting me when I gave you the kiss of life?”
