Chapter 267 I’ll Do All I Can

The contract was left on the table. Derek had already signed on it, but the section which required

Lewis’ signature remained blank.

Everyone swapped glances before turning to look at Seth in unison.

Derek asked, “Mr. Fairchild, what’s the meaning of this?”

Seth’s smile never wavered one bit as he picked up the contract and flipped through it casually.

“Maybe he’s still dissatisfied with a clause or two. I suggest you get your lawyer and have them look

through it properly.”

Derek’s brows remained tangled together. He wanted to say something about it, but Seth was already

telling Conrad to leave with him at that time.

Once Lewis left Moss Corporation, he got into his car and scrolled through his phone. Robert had

already sent him a few text messages by then.

The news about Josephine’s impending marriage to another man and the ongoing process at the City

Hall soon surfaced on the screen. Although Robert appeared to show concern for Josephine, there was

a strong hint of disdain for her evident between the lines.

Lewis tossed his phone aside as he started the car hurriedly. Then, he sped away from the company as

fast as lightning.

He drove quickly and even ran a few red lights without bothering to stop.

There were a few times when he almost collided with another car. Those drivers cussed at him

whenever he did so.

The black Maybach weaved through the busy road effortlessly and quickly, causing minor disruptions

everywhere. All the pedestrians could see was a black blur streaking past them from their positions on

the sidewalk.

“What the hell? What just flew by me?”

“That was a car! Seriously, that driver is insane! I can’t believe they’re actually driving like

this in an urban area!”

It was true that Lewis was speeding down the road. Soon, a couple of traffic police were hot on his

heels. The man started showing off his driving skills since he was an excellent driver. As a result, the

other drivers on the road almost suffered from a heart attack

It was almost nighttime, and the roads were crowded with numerous cars. Given Lewis’s reckless

behavior of speeding and disregarding red lights without any concern, it seemed inevitable for him to

eventually get into an accident.

Lewis gripped the steering wheel tightly as he focused on the road ahead of him. His foot was

already pressing the gas pedal to the maximum by then.

However, the moment he was about to run another red light on a cross junction, a red BMW rushed out

from the road perpendicular to where he was.

It was evident that the driver of the BMW was a greenhorn. As soon as he spotted the black Maybach

rapidly approaching, panic seized him, causing him to steer his car erratically and attempt to turn

around. Soon, the BMW would crash into the Maybach.

Naturally, Lewis noticed the BMW as well. With no other option, he forcefully applied the brakes,

simultaneously turning the steering wheel to evade the collision.

However, due to how fast his car had been going earlier, when Lewis executed an emergency brake,

his car careened uncontrollably toward the divider. Despite his efforts to apply the brakes, he couldn’t

halt the Maybach’s momentum, and it collided with the divider at a dangerous velocity.

A loud bang sounded moments later. Finally, the black Maybach’s chaotic adventure came to an end

while lodged in the middle of the divider.

Josephine and Quintin walked out of the City Hall with marriage licenses fresh out of the printer.

When the driver noticed the licenses in their hands, he visibly relaxed before getting into the

car and reporting to Robert.

Josephine stared at her copy of her marriage license before looking up at Quintin. She still found it

difficult to accept the fact that he was now her husband.

Meanwhile, Quintin had a dazed look on his face. He continued staring at his marriage license before

flipping it over to check its authenticity. Still, he felt that he was stuck in an amazing

dream.

He suggested to Josephine, “Why don’t you punch me in the guts?”

The latter frowned while staring back in puzzlement.

Quintin squeezed out an embarrassed smile in her direction. “It’s just that I don’t feel like this is my

reality right now. It feels as though I’m still dreaming. Can you punch me once so that I can see if I’m

dreaming?”

Josephine pursed her lips in response, having also felt the same way.

The joy and delight from getting hitched didn’t come flooding through her senses. It felt like any other

day to her-all she did was eat, go for a stroll, enter the City Hall, and come out with a marriage license.

She didn’t feel anything on the inside.

Quintin attempted to reach out and hold Josephine’s hand. “Josephine, despite the

circumstances that led us to marry hastily without much consideration, you’re now my legal wife. I

promise to take good care of you from now on.”

The young woman stared at him, clearly stunned. It was raining at the moment. A heavy downpour

rained down on the world in loud pitter-patters. Quintin’s eyes were exceptionally bright under the dark

and gloomy sky, as though the sun, which was supposed to be hiding behind the clouds, was

concealed in those eyes the whole time.

After snapping out of her momentary daze, Josephine stretched her lips into a light curl without

responding to Quintin’s promise.

Another voice vaguely sounded in her mind at that moment.

“I’ll take care of you forever.”

That voice started to overlap with Quintin’s voice slowly. Just the memory of that voice was enough to

stab Josephine in the heart.

Quintin didn’t get mad at her for not responding. Instead, he turned to glance at the drizzle outside the

City Hall. His car was still parked outside Alvarez Manor, so he called Jack and asked him to come pick

him up.

After that, the man dragged Josephine back to the lobby, where they could sit and wait for his ride. He

trained his gaze on her face afterward, hoping to carve every inch of her face into his

mind.

Josephine was starting to feel awkward from Quintin’s intense staring, so she turned her head to look

at the heavy downpour outside.

She might be clutching her marriage license, but she felt hollow inside.

It was as though a part of her had gone missing. That thing must have been very important to

her, but now it was gone.

The weather might have been too chilly, seeing as Josephine could feel the cold air prickling her

insides whenever she breathed. The chill slid down her esophagus and filled her chest

cavity, causing that area to throb slightly.

She raised a hand to press it against her heart, feeling as though she could barely breathe.

Meanwhile, Quintin was still rambling about his future plans. He had yet to buy himself a new house.

After Damian froze his cards, he no longer returned to the place he had bought with his

family’s money out of spite.

He had been spending his days in the orphanage recently.

Quintin really wanted to hold a wedding ceremony for Josephine, but his parents would surely object to

his decision.

Honestly speaking, Josephine was a woman without any commendable traits, save for the fact that she

was an adopted daughter of the Alvarez family.

When Robert asked Quintin’s friend to attend the matchmaking meeting, Quintin knew right that his

friend would certainly go just to appease Robert. He would never have agreed to marry Josephine for

real.

away

After all, she was a mute who had been married once. Those who came from rich households

would never marry someone like her.

If a scion were to do that, it would be equivalent to him marrying the walking definition of humiliation.

He and his family could only lead shameful lives in Elysium since then.

Of course, Quintin’s parents would never agree to this marriage.

That was why he was starting to worry about the future. He was afraid Josephine might suffer more

aggrievances now that she was married to him.

Conflicted, Quintin thought long and hard for a while before finally making up his mind. He turned

around to say to Josephine, “I’d like to tell you something, Josephine. I hope that you

won’t get mad at me.”

The latter turned around to look at him.

Quintin gritted his teeth, finally deciding to let the cat out of the beg. “I didn’t tell your father the truth

back in Alvarez Manor. The truth is, my parents never went on a business trip. They are at home right

now. Also, they don’t know that I’m married.”

Josephine’s eyelashes trembled slightly as though she could predict what the man would say next. At

the same time, her hands slowly clenched into fists.

Quintin continued, “My dad froze my cards as well, so I don’t have much money on me at the moment.

I don’t have the courage to take you home and introduce you to them.”

The young woman didn’t react at all.

That made Quintin feel slightly relieved. “I’m worried that I might not be able to provide you with the life

you want, but I still want to ask you this question. Are you willing to leave. Elysium and start a new life

in another city with me? Don’t worry. I won’t starve you at all. It’s possible that our new life won’t be as

lavish as the one you’re used to living, but I’ll still come up with a way to provide you with the

necessities.”

Once his words fell, Quintin stared at Josephine unblinkingly while waiting for her answer.

If that wasn’t what she wanted, they could always get a divorce right now.

The man knew very well that Josephine would feel even more aggrieved in her new life. Guilt

surged from his heart at that thought, but he had no other choice left. Hence, Quintin asked cautiously,

“Are you willing to do this, Josephine?”
