Chapter 317

Isn’t that Elio?

Emmett shot up from his seat and made a beeline for him, stopping Elio in his tracks.

Clearly, Elio was taken aback to see Emmett. “What are you doing here?”

“I came all the way here just to look for you! Clara said she needed to meet a friend. Is that friend you?”

Elio paused, then shook his head. “No, didn’t I tell you I’m swamped today? There’s no way I could meet up with

her. Besides, there’s nothing left to talk about between us. You two are married now; I’ve gotta keep my distance to

avoid stirring up trouble.”

Emmett studied Elio’s reactions but couldn’t find anything amiss.

In fact, when Emmett really looked at Elio, he found his demeanor too natural, showing no signs of deceit.

“Did Clara contact you recently?”

Elio shrugged. “No, she only told me earlier that because you’re the jealous type, she can’t keep in touch with me

as often. She’s afraid it might tick you off.”

Emmett’s gaze was fixed on Elio’s face, fearing he might miss any subtle changes in his expression, but to his

disappointment, there were none.

Elio’s calmness left no room for doubt. He even turned the tables on Emmett.

“Did you lose Clara? Did you two have a fight or something? Clara’s got a fiery temper, so I hope you can give her

some leeway.”

This irked Emmett. “I can handle my own affairs! Don’t talk as if Clara is yours!”

Undeniably, Elio wished Clara was his.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.”

“She’s my wife, so we’ll decide how we want to live our lives!”

Elio gave an awkward smile. “Um… I’ve got things to deal with upstairs. If there’s any news about Clara, I hope you

could let me know. Just to put my mind at ease.”
