Chapter 39
Jocelyn stared at that phone number on the screen, taking some while before picking up.
“Hello?”
“I’m heading back, Melvin said in a deep voice.
Jocelyn swirled the water in her cup, “Oh.”
“Are you coming with me?”
“Nope.” Jocelyn said, “Wish you a smooth sailing though.”
There was a moment of silence on the other end, “I’ll pick you up from the airport when you’re back.”
“We’ll see.” Jocelyn hadn’t heard a peep from him last night and said with feigned ease, lips pursed, “Alright, we’ve gottal gear
up for the next sightseeing spot, bye.”
She hung up before he could respond.
Ursula was all eyes on her, “No explanation?”
“What’s there to explain?” Jocelyn sipped her water, suddenly finding it a little tart, “He’s nobody to me.”
“After all you’ve had sex, are you sure you don’t care about him?” Ursula was gobsmacked.
“We’re all grown-ups. Since he doesn’t give me a name as his girlfriend, why bother?” Jocelyn shrugged it off, “It’s all just
for fun.”
Ursula shook her head with confusion, “I don’t think you two should be like this.”
“I’ve always felt the same. But they aren’t facts, are they?” Jocelyn gave a bitter smile, “What can I do? Just gotta roll with it. I
can’t make a difference all by myself.”
Ursula could tell she was bummed out. She didn’t know what to say to comfort her, it seemed like nothing would help.
“I’m fine.” Jocelyn knew Ursula was worried and replied with a smile, “I’ve accepted it, so it’s all good.”
Ursula frowned and sighed softly, “Are you going to keep this up? Willow’s pretty high-profile, and now with the media tagging
him as her boyfriend. I bet the fans will not spare anything about him. I’m afraid you’ll get dragged into it.”
Jocelyn had thought about it, but she figured Melvin wouldn’t let things blow up..
Without a doubt, a couple of hours later, the media reported that the guy wasn’t Willow’s boyfriend, but an old friend or a brand
partner. They were just shooting an advertisement in the city and happened to be there to help out with a
situation.
At that evening, Melvin video-called Jocelyn.
She answered.
On the screen, Melvin was sitting in a leather chair, wearing a black shirt. He seemed to work at the company.
Jocelyn didn’t know why he was asking again, she had already told him that morning.
Getting no answer, Melvin raised an eyebrow, “I’ve bought you a ticket for tomorrow.”
“No need” Jocelyn said, “I’ve got a few more days of fun planned.”
“More fun than me?” Melvin said suggestively with a serious expression.
Jocelyn avoided looking into his eyes, which were affectionate and tempting enough to allure her.
Melvin swallowed, his voice husky and sexy, “Come back tomorrow, babe.”
Jocelyn didn’t want to listen to him, but faced with his pleading look, she softened.
The next day Jocelyn told Ursula she was heading back, and Ursula winked at her on purpose, “Going back to patch up
your relationship
Jocelyn was a bit embarrassed by her teasing “Sorry, I did say I wanted to hang out a few more days.”
“No worries. I can have fun on my own.” Ursula said, “Want me to drop you at the airport?”
Thanks Jocelyn said. Tve already called a cab.”
As soon as the plane landed. Melvin texted her, saying he was waiting at the exit.
Jocelyn’s mood lifted inexplicably, and she sped up, dragging her luggage toward the exit.
You’re supposed to run to see your favonte person. However, it was too crowded for that.
She spotted Melvin’s tali figure in a white T-shirt and black casual blazer at the exit His slightly tousled hair made him
more sexy.
Barely out of a scandal with Willow, he’s brazenly showing up at the airport. Was he not afraid of being snapped by paparazzi?
Jocelyn walked out, and Melvin naturally took her suitcase, walking side by side with her.
His pace was fast, forcing Jocelyn to almost jog.
He hadn’t said a word since seeing her just stowed the luggage in the trunk. After Jocelyn buckled in, Melvin drove off from the
airport.
Jocelyn didn’t get his silent treatment Wasn’t he the one who wanted her back?
Not saying a word after meeting up, what was his deal?
They had just left the airport. Suddenly, he pulled the car over.
Jocelyn was taken aback, turning to him, “You...”
Before she could finish, Melvin had unfastened his seat belt and leaned in, pulling her in for a kiss.
Jocelyn was breathless, with the pounding of his heart against her chest.
Jocelyn shut her eyes reflexively as he kissed her. Until he wanted more than a kiss, she patted his back with a soft
“mmhm from her mouth.
Melvin let go, his eyes now filled with longing.
Jocelyn swallowed, her heart racing at his blunt admission. Facing his direct expression, she felt lots of butterflies flying in her
stomach.
“Did you miss me or just my body? Jocelyn’s breath was unstable too.
Melvin asked, “Is there a difference?
Jocelyn shot back, “Of course!”
“Anyway, I just missed you, Melvin said before diving in for another kiss.
The car was too cramped. With traffic passing by, they couldn’t stay there for long without attracting the cops.
Melvin sat back up, and Jocelyn’s clothes were a mess. Her cheeks flushed like peach blossoms in March, utterly
irresistible
“Let’s continue at home.”
Jocelyn glared at him, “Do you ever think about anything serious?”
“I do” Melvin had buckled up again. “A little love-making excites you and helps you do other things better.”
Listening to his nonsense, Jocelyn rolled her eyes.
Melvin hit the road again, “Your place or mine?”
Shapter 20
I’m going home Jocelyn was not amused.
Alright then.”
Melvin didn’t give Jocelyn a ride back to her place, but headed to his own crib instead.
As the car rolled into the underground garage, Jocelyn stared at him, “I said I wanted to go to my place.”
“Let’s swing by mine first. I’ll drop you off later,” Melvin got out of the car and fetched her luggage from the trunk.
Jocelyn never thought one day she’d be invited into his house, which seemed to step into his secret chamber. And now, she was
walking right into his mysteries.
In the elevator, Jocelyn felt weirdly on edge.
Their relationship confused her about the current vibe at this stage.
Once inside, Melvin dumped the luggage by the door and asked, “Wanna take a shower?”
Jocelyn licked her lips and just looked at him without a word.
“What’s up?” Melvin was puzzled. Holding her hand, he frowned, “Feeling jittery?”
Yeah, she was indeed jittery.
The last time she was here was to tutor Preston. But this time around, her state of mind was worlds apart. She felt like she was
tagging along with a stranger to their home.
“Don’t sweat it. I’m not gonna take a shower with you,” Melvin thought she was freaking out about a joint shower, “I’ve got some
stuff to sort out in the study.”
Jocelyn wandered off to the bathroom, a bit dazed.
For over three years, she had never set foot in his territory. At this time, she was doing the most personal stuff here.
Was he... trying to shake things up between them?.
