Chapter 130
Hamson accompanied Jocelyn back to her apartment, but he didn’t know how to console her.
It’s hard for an outsider to feel and empathize when it came to matters of love.
“Give it time. There’s nothing that time can’t heal, Harrison paused, looking at Jocelyn Intently, “You’re holding on because you
still care deeply for him. If you truly can’t let go, why not give it another try? Maybe after all this, he’ll realize what he needs to do
to keep you aside”
Jocelyn shook her head, “No, I can’t.”

Seeing her resolute stance, Hamson didn’t push further “Anyway, you should handle this in the way that feels right for you Don’t
overthink it. Treat him like an old acquaintance if you bump into him, just saying ‘hi’ and moving on. Don’t force anything. Once
your heart is at ease, the rest will follow.”
“Yeah.” Jocelyn smiled at him. Thanks for being here for me”
“If I can cheer you up, maybe I’ll have a chance, right?” Harrison wasn’t entirely joking. He hadn’t given up.
Now, he and Melvin were on equal footing. Though Melvin shared a past with Jocelyn, he faced a significant hurdle with her-a
hurdle that was no issue for Hamson
He knew what he wanted and what he could offer Jocelyn.
What women sought was security and reliability, and he could provide that in spades.
It was just a matter of time, and he believed she would eventually see the right choice.
Jocelyn paused and nodded with a smile, “We all have our chances
They exchanged knowing smiles. When it came to love, nothing was certain
Fate was half destiny and half earned.
The next aftemoon, Harrison pulled up in a shiny new Mercedes 450 at the front gate of Jocelyn’s school.
When Jocelyn got his call and stepped out, she saw him leaning casually against the car, his eyes warm and inviting behind his
“Got a new ride?” she asked, eyeing the car with an empty licence plate.
“Yeah. Since I start working here now, having a set of wheels makes life easier, Harrison said, opening the passenger door for
her. “Please.”
Jocelyn couldn’t help but laugh at his earnestness. “Stop, you’re making me blush”
“Keeping you from your day to help me with furniture shopping deserves a treat, Harrison said as he closed the door and took his
place in the driver’s, buckling up. You haven’t eaten yet, right? Let’s grab a bite.”
*Sure
Preston watched the car drive away and dialed Melvin immediately, “Uncle, your ‘play dumb to catch smart’ trick didn’t work. You
ended up the real dumb pig.”
At home, Melvin touched the bruise on his mouth, wincing, “What did you see?”
They left together in his car Jocelyn looked happier than I’ve seen her in a long time, Preston was blunt
Melvin’s eyes narrowed, “Where did they go?”
“How could I know?” Preston retorted, “I’m done being your spy. Jocelyn is cold to me now because of you. As a mature man,
you should figure out how to win her back instead of pulling these stunts. I’m hanging up
Melvin didn’t get a word in before Preston hung up.
Clutching his phone, Melvin thought about Preston’s words-Jocelyn’s happier than before
What did it mean? That she was delighted to see him battered and bruised?
wish he had been finished off?
welver’s chest was filled with a stifling rage, like an overinflated balloon about to burst.

dramatic. It’s unbecoming of a man.”
“You and your son are two peas in a pod. He teases me as a pig and you call me dramatic. Whose side are you on?” Melvin was
furing “My son’s got a way with words. Yasmine didn’t spare him any sympathy, “But calling you a pig is almost a compliment.
Melvin glowered, “Go on with your teasing and see what happens!”
“What? You want to fight? Yasmine rolled up her sleeves, ready for a brawl, “Do you believe I can still beat you up now?”
“Men and women of low virtue are difficult to nurture. The ancients weren’t wrong” Melvin tried to rise above the squabble.
Yasmine nodded. “Right, you’re the very definition of low virtue.”
“You... Melvin’s heart clenched
Yasmine wasn’t concemed with his feelings, Jocelyn’s too good for you. She’s beautiful, gentle and elegant. She should be with
someone who has the charm and intellect of a university professor. Besides, if you’re not going to marry her, why lie her down?
It’s not fair if you don’t want marriage and yet deny her the chance. Don’t be so selfish”
Melvin took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool.
He stared her down, “So what marriage has brought you? Only to get divorced in a few years?”
Yasmine’s face darkened instantly.
But Melvin was relentless, not caring for his sister’s feelings either, “Weren’t you two in love once? Had given birth to your child
at 18, and what next? Are you happy now?”
He knew exactly where to aim his barbs-sharp, accurate and merciless
Trembling with anger, Yasmine stormed over and grabbed Melvin by the collar, “Say that again!”
“Say it ten times, its all the same!” Melvin’s harshness didn’t waver. His emotions were bottled up for far too long, and now he
couldn’t hold them back any longer. “If you can’t guarantee you’ll be together for life, then what’s the point of getting hitched?
Having kids? Isn’t living in the moment a blast?”
“Living in the moment? Then why the hell are you hounding someone else? They don’t want to party with you anymore!”
Yasmine knew his sore spot was tied to Jocelyn and she poked right at it. “Let me tell you something, you’ll never understand
what love is. If I were Jocelyn, I would’ve dumped you ages ago. Wasting three years with you, it’s like throwing pearls to swine!
You’re just meant to be a lonely old bachelor, unwanted forever!”
The siblings were at each other’s throats, their faces flushed with anger, a stark contrast to their usual polished and untouchable
extenor.
Their eyes bulged with fury, as if they were ready to tear each other apart.
Yasmine didn’t coddle him, spitting out the harshest words she could find. In her eyes, he was such a heartless jerk that didn’t
deserve any care.
Melvin was so angry he could burst into flames, his chest heaving rapidly. His eyes turned red, “You’re not afraid you’ll anger me
to death?”
“If you dropped dead from anger, then Jocelyn could finally find someone decent to love, to talk about marriage and starting a
family with Yasmine had no sympathy for him.
