want to understand your progress now so that I can leave as soon as possible if everything’s going on smoothly.”

After considering things for a moment, John asked, “Will your grandfather and father allow you to leave?”

Dexter was gone. Mrs. Bailey had left, and only her father would be left in the family if Isabelle were to leave as
