Chapter 1721

Marcus shook his head. “I didn’t hear any conversation, but the slam of a door woke me up. Tristan, too.”

Sophia remembered her father leaving. He had indeed slammed the door.

So, Marcus was awakened by the slamming door, not by the conversation she just had with her father.

She felt relieved.

She was worried that Marcus would overthink if he heard what they were talking about.

Sophia chuckled. “That’s just how my father is. He does everything with such gusto. Sorry if it startled you and

Tristan.”

Marcus nonchalantly shook his head. “It’s fine. Why didn’t you invite your father to stay for dinner?”

Sophia’s face flashed with a hint of unease as she thought about the unpleasant incident with her father just now.

“Oh, my dad said he had something to do, so he didn’t join us.”

Marcus gave her a nod, not pressing further. He didn’t really care if Thaddeus stayed for dinner or not; he was just

trying to dismiss Sophia’s suspicions. Sophia let out a small sigh of relief. “Marcus, why don’t you and Tristan watch

some TV while I finish up here.”

“Alright.”

Veronica hurriedly hopped out of the car driven by her chauffeur, and dashed into a dessert shop.

Moran had been waiting for her in the dessert shop for an hour already. He already refilled his coffee twice over.

“Mo, Moran, I’m…I’m late again.” Veronica panted, barely managing an explanation before she even sat down.

Moran looked up at the meticulously dressed Veronica and smiled. “It’s okay. Sit down and catch your breath. I’ve

ordered you a lemonade, and you can order whatever you want to eat.”

Veronica nodded and sat down. She sometimes felt a wave of remorse wash over her every time she looked at

Moran’s gentle face.

Morán was so steady. He was arguably the most emotionally stable person she had ever met. No matter what

happened, he never seemed to lose his

cool.

And then there was her, a woman who was constantly on edge and made mountains out of molehills.

“Here’s your lemonade. Have a few sips to cool down.”

Moran handed her the glass.

Veronica took the lemonade and sipped lightly. “Thanks, Moran. I always keep you waiting, and you never get

upset.”

Moran chuckled. “It takes time for a girl to get ready. Besides, didn’t you help Ellinor with the kids for a bit? You

didn’t do it on purpose.”

Veronica blushed. “How can there be such an understanding guy like you in this world? I don’t know what I’ve done

to deserve to be your girlfriend.”

Moran ruffled her hair. “Talking nonsense again? If it weren’t for the fact that I like you and you like me, how could

we be together? What do you mean ‘deserve’? You’re so adorable. I wonder what I’ve done to deserve to be your

boyfriend.”

Veronica blushed even harder. Her boyfriend was so sweet. It was hard not to fall for him.

Moran said indulgently, “Alright. Order anything else you want. After dessert, let’s catch a movie. There’s a new

thriller that’s been getting great reviews. I’ve got the tickets.”

Veronica nodded, picked up the menu, and added a few more of her favorite sweets
