Sophia instantly remembered what Brandon had mentioned about his dad having shealth issues again. Her brows knitted

together in concern, and she quickly dialed his number back.

"Did you drop by the hospital to check on Brandon's father today?"

"Yeah," Aaron responded, a bit puzzled, "I even brought a bunch of gifts. The old guy's in pretty good shape."

"Did you guys butt heads or something?" Sophia asked, her voice now edged with urgency, even a hint of exasperation, like she

was fed up with his incompetence.

"How could that happen?" Aaron shot back confidently, "Why would | clash with him? | practically worship the ground he walks on."

Sophia wasn't buying it; Aaron had always been a loose cannon.

She hung up without another word, grabbed her Bluetooth headset from the table, put it on, and played the aufiles Aaron had

sent over.

The start was fine, just polite small talk, everyone keeping up appearances until Aaron brought up Theresa and his belief that she

and Brandon were so lovey-dovey. That's when Daniel's defenses started to crumble.

"Who told you they got back together? No way, that kid doesn't belong to my family. Brandon's about to tie the knot with the Frost

family's youngest daughter. They've been sweethearts since childhood, and both families have already settled the wedding plans."

As Daniel's scoff reached her ears, Sophia's gaze drifted, landing on the peacefully sleeping Theresa. Her look was complex, her

emotions a tangled web, especially when Daniel mentioned that Sophia only married Brandon because of an unexpected

pregnancy, and to fulfill Brandon's grandfather's last wish. At that point, Sophia felt nothing but numbness.

The response she had anticipated.

It wasn't until Daniel said, "I wouldn't want her to ruin our family name," that Sophia felt a sting in her heart, her eyes resting on

Theresa's serene face, her throat tightening with emotions she couldn't quite identify.

Aaron's text cthrough right then. [Finished listening? See, they've laid it out for you, and you're still clueless, not thinking of

how to suck up to your in-laws. They are always so high and mighty, how do you expect them to truly accept you?]

[Is your self-respect really worth that little? They've made their disdain for you crystal clear, and you're still itching to get in their

faces?] Sophia shot back

[I've done nothing wrong, no need for reflection. And you don't need to updateon your chats with them. If you really feel sorry

for me, then stop bothering them.]

[Self-respect won't pay the bills. It's a fierce world. If you've got no money, no power, clinging to your precious pride will only get

you trampled. Being flexible is what makes a true man.] Aaron texted back instantly.

Sophia glanced at the message and then promptly killed her phone, tossing it aside without another word.

Deep into the night, sleep eluded Sophia.

She had no idea how Daniel was faring, but whatever it was that had Brandon rushing back from work must not be good.

She never imagined Aaron would stoop to disguising himself as a janitor to dig up dirt on Daniel.

Clearly, Aaron had been pushed to the brink.

The recording Aaron sent stopped abruptly right after Daniel's harsh words. What Aaron said or did after, Sophia had no clue, but it

was evident that Aaron played a big part in Daniel's current plight.

As the saying goes, what you fear most tends to happen.

Sophia barely slept all night, only managing to force srest upon herself as dawn approached.

Today, she had to join Don at the Frost Group resort's bidding conference. Without sshut-eye, she feared she wouldn't hold up.

Brandon didn't get hfrom the hospital until eight, looking like he hadn't slept a wink, weary to the bone.

"How's your dad doing now?" Sophia asked softly.

"He's fine, don't worry about him," Brandon said, noticing Sophia still doing her makeup, a slight frown forming, "Got plans today?"

"Yeah," Sophia nodded, "the Frost Group resort's bidding today. | want to check it out."

Brandon vaguely remembered something like that, but he had no idea Sophia's previous designs were for the Frost family's retreat.

So, he simply nodded and offered, "Needto cwith you?"

"No need," Sophia declined, "You didn't sleep all night. Just take it easy at home. I'm just going to have a look."
