Aaron looked like he was in a real pickle.

These were things they could hash out among family, but spilling the beans to Brandon was a no-go.

He feared that if he let the cat out of the bag, and Brandon took it to heart, with Sophia's fiery nature, their relationship might hit

the skids.

With the lovebirds currently in a good place, Aaron didn't want to rock the boat.

He wanted to keep being Brandon's brother-in-law.

"Is there a problem?"

Brandon asked coolly, giving him the eye.

"Not exactly."

Aaron still looked troubled, "It's just | got to thinking about how Sophia doesn't cherish her marriage with you, isn't grateful, and |

just lost my cool, that's all."

Aaron's voice trailed off.

"Alright, if you're not willing to spill, then off you go to the police station to stew over your actions," Sophia said, then turned on her

heel to leave.

Aaron reached out instinctively to stop Sophia.

"Hold up, can't | just apologize and make it right?"

Aaron said as he slapped himself hard on both cheeks, cursing himself while he did it, "It's my own damn fault for being impulsive.

This is the worst tforto be cooling my heels in a cell. The Frost Group's resort bidding is happening in a couple of days, and

I've got to be there in person."

"Aren't you out of the running for the bid?" Sophia looked back at him, "What's it got to do with you?"

"I'm in the gnow," Aaron explained hastily, "Ms. Frost invitedfor a meal today. She sees potential inand my company,

so she's considering adding us to the bidding list. She's the lead designer of the project and the apple of the Frost family's eye.

With her backing, there's no way | can lose."

"Ms. Frost?" Sophia frowned at him, "How did you even meet her? And why would she be interested in your so-called company?"

"Hey, my firm's legit, thank you very much. We just haven't landed any projects yet," Aaron replied defensively, as if his pride was

hurt, "Ms. Frost has an eye for talent, and I've got a solid degree in civil engineering."

Brandon cut him off, "How do you know her? What did she tell you?"

"I met her when | visited her place the other day," Aaron didn't hide it from Brandon, "We didn't talk much, just about her

expectations for the project, and how she hopes I'd handle the construction. | guess besides valuing my skills, she also wanted to

do Sophia a solid."

He looked at Sophia, "I had no clue you and Ms. Frost were grad school buddies."

Sophia's frown deepened, "So she's the one who told you where | work?"

Aaron nodded, "Yeah. After we talked shop, we got to talking about you. She mentioned she was your classmate and now a

colleague, said you were talented and capable, now even her leader, and that she admired you. | was pretty surprised, so | just

casually asked where she worked, and then | cover."

Sophia's frown seemed to ease a bit. It sounded like typical small talk.

She glanced at Aaron, "And what does this have to do with your freakout?"

Aaron hesitated, "It really has nothing to do with her. It's just..."

Aaron still couldn't bring himself to repeat Daniel's harsh words about Sophia in front of Brandon. He felt that saying them aloud

would cast Sophia in a negative light in Brandon's eyes.

Brandon gave him a look, remembering how Patricia had vented her frustration about Sophia, and could roughly guess what his

parents had said to him.

He had just disguised himself as a janitor to sneak into his dad's hospital room, and right after he left, his dad had been rushed to

the ICU. Aaron, too, had cstraight to Sophia to let off steam, clearly both sides had riled each other up, and the words

exchanged were probably not the nicest.

Brandon also didn't want Sophia to hear those derogatory remarks about her. He glanced at his watch, "The cops should be here

soon. Let's head back to the 17th floor."

Sophia gave him a look.

"Wait, why are we still talking about getting the cops involved?" Aaron was clearly panicked, his eyes pleading with Sophia,

"Sophia, you can hit me, yell at me, whatever you want, just don't sendto jail, please. | can't have a criminal record. It'll mess

up Betty's background check for her government job."

"Didn't you think about the consequences before you hit someone?"

After saying this, Sophia pulled her hand away and walked off.
