In the lazy afternoon, Leopold had prepared a sleek yacht, and everyone was buzzing with excitement about the adventure, that is, deep-sea fishing.
The men staked out spots for their angling endeavors, while the women lounged on deck, sipping iced tea and watching the fishing spectacle unfold.
Skyler, with a mischievous grin, nudged Raines. "Hey, Fredric, Raines, and Leopold, how about having a little contest? Let's see who can haul in the most fish?" He remembered Geoffrey's competitive streak. Everything was a contest for Geoffrey. If he lost, well, he would raise the roof with overwhelming rage.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSkyler figured it was high tto test for Angel to see if he was the real Geoffrey.
Fredric chuckled. "Sure, a little competition spices things up. Let's say catching a rare species counts as three." Leopold nodded in agreement.
Seeing everyone on board with the idea, Raines had no objections.
A sly twinkle flickered in Skyler's eyes. "If so, we need stakes! The loser has to chug a big glass of ljuice." "Deal," Fredric jumped in, loving the challenge. "But just ljuice? That's kid stuff. Let's up the ante with a shot of cilantro extract." Skyler clapped his hands in delight. "Oh yeah, this is gonna be epic! Everyone, give it your all. You do not want to be the loser today." Geoffrey loathed anything with a strong flavor, such as ljuice, cilantro, lettuce, and apples. Everything you nit could be on his blacklist.
ljuice with a side of cilantro extract and apple turnovers was practically a death sentence for him. It'd be a miracle if he didn't spend the day heaving over the side of the boat.
If Raines was the genuine one, he'd weather this triple threat.
With that sorted, they could all rest easy.
Raines gripped his fishing rod a tad tighter, but his face remained calm, with a faint smile playing on his lips.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLeopold clapped him on the back. "This isn't punishment for Raines. He's always had a taste for the strong stuff. As a kid, he could down bowls of ljuice and wouldn't touch spaghetti or hamburger without a heap of lettuce." Fredric wrapped an arm around Raines’ shoulder. "Look, Raines has finally cback from abroad to reunite with us. As the eldest here, | can't be too hard on him." Skyler noticed the foods Raines liked were exactly the ones Geoffrey despised. Natural adversaries. If Geoffrey was trying to play the part of Raines, he was in for a rough ride.
"Alright then, let the games begin!" Aurelia, carrying tall glasses of fresh coconut water, cheered them on. "Go get 'em, brothers!" Leopold, with a quick move, wrapped an arm around her slender waist. "Cheering for everybody but your husband?" She wrinkled her nose at him playfully. "Well, you're included in 'everybody.' And since you're older, | guess that makes you a ‘brother’ too." He leaned towards Aurelia to graze his lips against her ear, teasing in a low voice, "I was thinking more along the lines of ‘lover.
Aurelia shot him a stern look, whispering back, "Public displays of affection are banned, remember?" Fredric, eyeing the couple, teased, "Is this what they call 'the honeymoon phase’ all over again?" Aurelia laughed awkwardly. "More like 'mending the broken bonds." Leopold gently caressed her hair, with his eyes brimming with adoration. "Original wife is always the bestl." Aurelia pursed her lips, with a trace of confusion in her eyes. After their reunion, was she still the original, or did she now count as a second-time-around wife? Fredric let out a snicker, sensing Leopold's nostalgia and competitive edge. If they hadn't gotten back together, Aurelia might've ended up as Leopold's sister-in-law.
Truth be told, if Arnold had been there, the atmosphere wouldn't be nearly as harmonious.
Seeing Aurelia and Leopold all lovey-dovey would've certainly churned up sdiscomfort in Arnold. He had been enchanted by her, ready to forsake all others for her.
After all, Arnold was a notorious playboy in the past, a man well-versed in the gof love.
