Amidst the smoke, several attackers wearing gas masks emerged from an old shipping container, clutching sharp switchblades in their hands.
They lunged at the woman, who drew her blade from her belt. Though she had a gun, the smoke was too thick to distinguish friend from foe, and no one dared to fire indiscriminately.
One clad figure stayed behind to guard Shawn and his wife while the others rushed to aid the woman.
Trained in elite special forces, they had the skill to take on ten men each, but even so, they occasionally sustained cuts from the assailants' blades amidst the smoky confusion.
After several intense exchanges, they finally took out the attackers.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtBack at Stirling Mansion, Aurelia paced anxiously, awaiting news. Leopold sat beside her, peeling an apple.
"Don't worry. It will be alright," he reassured Aurelia.
"They specifically asked forto come. They must have set a trap. | don't want the body double to get hurt," Aurelia murmured, valuing each life as precious.
Leopold wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "It's her job to arrest criminals, and she's more than capable. They won't lay a finger on her." At midnight, the phone rang. It was Kevin.
They had successfully rescued the hostages. The strike team had encountered an attack, resulting in minor injuries, and they had arrested all the assailants.
Shawn and his wife had fallen into a coma on the way back and were rushed to the hospital.
Aurelia's first thought was poison. These attackers were known for their biochemical expertise, and it was likely they had injected the Shawns with stoxin.
"They're monsters who even don't pare the innocent." A cold anger flashed in Leopold's eyes, "Tomorrow, we'll take Skyler to the hospital. He's the most knowledgeable about the AK Group's poisons." "Right," Aurelia nodded, relieved that the rescue operation was successful and the Shawns were finally safe.
The following morning, Leopold and Aurelia were woken by their phones.
"Mr. Leopold, there's been a complication. The assailants captured yesterday have mysteriously died in their cells, likely injected with poison beforehand. The coroner will conduct autopsies this afternoon. Several SWAT members involved in the operation have suddenly cdown with high fevers and fallen into comas this morning, presenting symptoms similar to the Shawns. Doctors suspect an unknown virus." Leopold sat up immediately, glancing at Aurelia beside him. "We must get Skyler and head to the hospital now." Meanwhile, Skyler had already gone off to school.
When Aurelia arrived at Pinnacle Ivy League School, Ramona rushed over. "Ms. Aurelia, have my parents been rescued?" "Yes," Aurelia sighed internally, not wanting to scare the child, and reassured her with a soothing voice, "They're at the hospital now for a thorough check-up. You'll see them soon if everything is fine." Relieved, Ramona asked, "Can | call them?" Aurelia stroked her hair. "Letcheck on them first, and I'll let you know, okay?" "Okay," Ramona nodded obediently.
Skyler ran out of his office. Aurelia had briefed him on the phone about the virus infecting the Shawns and the strike team.

If Aurelia ever found out, she would surely blhim, and he would lose his chance of affection.
At the hospital, doctors were awaiting their arrival.
"We've discovered the virus attacks white blood cells, causing an alarming drop in the patients. We've isolated them in sterile rooms and are administering medication to boost their white cell count," explained the doctor.
Skyler donned a sterile suit and followed the doctor into the isolation room.
Upon exiting, his expression was grave.
"Skyler, do you recognize the virus?" He nodded. "It's an ancient virus from the Arctic ice caps, discovered during an expedition by my mentor, Dr. Jones."
