Aurelia observed William's unusual behavior. It was unlike William to throw such a tantrum.

"William, darling, wouldn't it be nice for Mommy to give you and Kane a little sister?"

"But | already have a little sister. You like Nova too, right?" William furrowed his tiny brow with the earnestness only a child could

muster.

Aurelia stroked his hair gently, "Nova is adorable, and | do love her, but she's Arnold and Lisa's girl, not mine and Leopold's."

William pouted, "Why do you and Uncle Leopold even need to have a daughter?"

"Because we only have one son, sweetie. Kane would really love to have a sister." Aurelia explained.

"Kane can just think of Nova as his sister," William insisted.

"Sweetheart, Nova lives with her own mom and dad, not with us. We only get to visit her sometimes. If you have your own little

sister, she'll live with us, and you can play and eat together every day."

William's cheeks puffed out in frustration. "Did Uncle Leopold sneakily put the baby in your tummy? | don't like Uncle Leopold at

all."

Aurelia's expression was sterned, "William, you can't say things like that. It upsets me. | always consider your feelings, and you

need to consider mine too. Uncle Leopold lost Liam, so it's important for us to give him another child. It's as simple as that."

William's head dropped as a wave of sadness washed over him. He had once had a simple, happy family, but now it felt fractured

and incomplete.

"I'm a child from a single-parent family, and kids likeare always troubled with childhood shadows. Who asked forto be from

a single-parent family?"

After his outburst, he turned and ran outside.

"William!" Aurelia sighed deeply, realizing that William had never truly accepted their new life and was more sensitive and fragile

than she had imagined.

Skyler stood up and comforted, "Angel, don't worry. I'll go check on William."

He found William quickly, sitting under a large tree in the yard, head hung low, tears spilling down his cheeks.

Skyler offered him a tissue. "Con, William, no tears anymore."

William took the tissue, dabbing at his eyes.

"I'm not crying. Just got sdust in my eyes."

"Alright," Skyler shrugged, "We're best buddies, remember? You can tellanything that's bothering you."

William kicked at a small stone. "I really don't want Mommy and Uncle Leopold to have a little sister."

"And why's that?" Skyler asked, puzzled.

"If Mommy has a little sister, she'll never cback to our old house. And then Daddy might geta new mom, and I'll beca

kid nobody loves." William spoke glumly, thinking of his friend Jenny who had gone through something similar.

Skyler wrapped an arm around his small shoulders. "No matter who your mom and dad are with, they will always love you. You

need to adapt to the new situation. | thought after all this time, you'd be used to it by now."

He had adapted quickly himself, and he loved life in Elysium.

William sighed, "The adult world is too complicated. They never consider how the kids feel."

Skyler spoke from the heart, "When kids grow up, they leave their parents and live their own lives. The best way is for parents not

to interfere in their kids' lives, and for the kids not to interfere in their parents’. When | was small, my mom always told my siblings

andthat we had to be independent and couldn't rely on our parents forever. Whatever our parents wanted to do, we couldn't

meddle, and they wouldn't interfere with our choices. Everyone is an independent individual."
