Chapter 574 Whose Child Is This

With mixed emotions, Alina picked up Avery's blood test and read through it a few times. Her hands that gripped

the report trembled when she saw that Avery's blood type was O.

“Are you okay, Aunt Alina? Is there something wrong with the report?” Avery noticed something wasn't quite right

with Alina, so she walked over to the latter's side, trying to read her report with unease.

“No... Everything's all right.” Alina tried to keep her emotions under control. “Gigi, the result from the blood test

should be accurate, right?”

Gigi Larson rolled her eyes exasperatedly. She tidied up the medical report on her desk, stating proudly, “Lina,

there is no record of a medical incident at our hospital thus far.”

Hearing that, Alina closed her eyes as the memories from twenty years ago came rushing back into her mind. She

had traveled abroad to study in Jetroina twenty years ago to pursue her dreams and goals. Knowing that her family

did not have the financial capability to support her through her studies, Alina took on part-time jobs during her non-

school hours to earn some school fees and living expenses.

One day, Alina suddenly received a letter from Leonardo, mentioning that he had met a gorgeous, modern, stylish

woman named Lilly. Leonardo described the woman as elegant and charming, filling half of his letters with words of

compliment for Lilly.

He also told Alina that he thought a goddess-like woman like Lilly would only stay as a person he admired, not

expecting Lilly to approach him, wanting to be Leonardo's girlfriend suddenly.

Leonardo spoke of his excitement when he heard Lilly's confession. And so, he went on and on about the daily

mundane details of his life with Lilly, and Alina could even feel Leonardo's love for Lilly through his words.

Her brother told Alina that Lilly would be the ideal woman if one were to ignore the fact that Lilly loved spending

money and that he had to work harder to provide for her. Then, Leonardo described in length through the letter

how he cooked, prepared fruits, accompanied Lilly on her shopping trip, massaged her body, and washed her feet

for her. He stated that as long as Lilly was happy, he would do anything for her.

In response, Alina felt like Leonardo had gone mad, for she only noticed how much Leonardo contributed to the

relationship and Lilly. Still, Lilly sacrificed nothing for Leonardo in return.

And even though Alina had not met Lilly directly, she didn't have a good impression of the woman Leonardo loved

and cherished. To Alina, Lilly was much too selfish to be a good lover. She only waited for Leonardo to sacrifice

everything for her while she was unresponsive toward the man's love. Alina even went as far as to wonder whether

Lilly became Leonardo's girlfriend with an ulterior motive.

Does she only want to be in a relationship with Leonardo because of how much he dotes on her? That was the only

thought on Alina's mind when she read Leonardo's letter.

Besides these details, Alina still remembered clearly something Cayden had brought up in the letter. He talked

about a severe car accident that nearly killed Lilly while she was shopping one fateful day.

Leonardo was there with her when it happened. Disorientated and distressed by the accident, he suppressed his

sorrow, rushing Lilly to the hospital. While there, the doctor informed Leonardo that Lilly needed a blood

transfusion. Unfortunately for her, who had the blood type AB, the blood supply of blood type O ran out, and there

wasn't enough blood type AB at the moment.

Panicked by the thought that Lilly would die from excessive blood loss, Leonardo threw caution to the wind as he

kneeled, begging the doctor to take his blood and give it to Lilly.

Initially, the doctor lectured Leonardo, thinking that he was being unreasonable. However, after discovering that

Leonardo did indeed have the same blood type as Lilly, the doctor did as Leonardo requested and supplied his

blood to the woman.

After that, Leonardo expressed his joy at being the same blood type as Lilly, for if he hadn't been there, Lilly's life

would have ended. Then, Leonardo concluded his letter by saying that Lilly was the love of his life and that he

wished to marry her while asking Alina to return to the country for his wedding.

Evidently, Alina wanted to show up at the event badly then because whenever the night fell during the days she

spent overseas while the stresses of life burdened her, Alina wanted to return home desperately. The woman

missed her father, Leonardo, and her country.

However, Alina couldn't purchase a ticket home without a penny left on her. Aggravated by the fact that she was

nearing her exam period, Alina would be repatriated home if she failed her tests, and that wasn't something she

wanted to witness happening to her. And so, Alina transferred all the money she earned from her part-time jobs to

Leonardo as a gift for his wedding. She figured it wouldn't matter much for her to meet Lilly, her sister-in-law, after

finishing her studies. After all, Alina could express her apology for not showing up at their wedding by bringing them

more gifts.

Not long after that, Alina received another letter from Leonardo that was concise in its content. He told Alina that

Lilly was pregnant and that she would be an aunt soon before his tone became miserable, dropping a bombshell

that Lilly was missing. Leonardo searched for her, but Lilly was nowhere to be found.

At that time, Alina recalled herself being infuriated by Lilly's actions. She couldn't understand why the woman was

being absurd and pulling the disappearing stunt when pregnant.

Then, she replied to Leonardo, telling him to let nature take its course and that he shouldn't be troubled by Lilly's

disappearance, for what belonged to him would return and that he shouldn't force it if he and Lilly weren't meant to

be.

Sure enough, Leonardo wrote another letter to Alina after that. He informed Alina that he was thrilled to have Lilly

back with their daughter. However, Lilly's demeanor and character drastically changed after she returned their

daughter to Leonardo. She was nasty and smug, demanding Leonardo to sign their divorce papers.

As expected, Leonardo broke down after Lilly did so. He didn't want to separate from Lilly, even going as far as

kneeling and begging Lilly to stay with him and their daughter.

Yet, Lilly remained determined in her decision. She insisted on divorcing Leonardo by threatening him with her life.

Ultimately, Leonardo couldn't bear to make things difficult for Lilly. He agreed to sign the papers, and soon after

that, Lilly vanished without a trace.

On the other hand, Alina was afraid that Leonardo would harm himself after Lilly's departure, so she quickly

returned home. The first thing she saw when she arrived at the Rumpley residence was a glassy-eyed Leonardo,

and in his embrace was a stunning, doll-like baby. That baby was none other than Alina's niece, Avery.

Alina fell in love with Avery the moment she laid her eyes on the girl. She gave Avery all her love and care for the

next twenty years.

As for Lilly, Alina never did find out what she looked like. She only got information about Leonardo's wife and Avery's

mother through Leonardo. That was when she discovered that Lilly's full name was Lilly Sullivan.

Alina's memories halted in their tracks. She stared at Avery, feeling a headache coming on.

Oh no. If Avery isn't my niece, then whose child is she? Did another man impregnate Lily?

The possibility of this happening caused Alina's mood to spiral downward as her gaze darkened.

“Aunt Alina, Gigi told us hemolytic disease can be detected, and if given early treatment and prevention, it will not

be a big problem for the baby. Come on. Let's head home now.” Avery walked to Alina with her gaze fixed on the

latter. She had just consulted Gigi on the knowledge about the hemolytic disease, and with her confusion

addressed, she was currently in a fantastic mood.

“All right. Avery, why don't you wait for me outside? I'll chat with Gigi for a while before we leave.” Alina pretended

to straighten Avery's hair. She secretly tugged a hair strand and gripped it tightly in her palm.

Even though Avery felt a fleeting pain in her head, her mind was wholly focused on information related to the

hemolytic disease, and she failed to notice the grimness in Alina's eyes and the strand of hair in the latter's hand.
