Chapter 93
At the entrance of the banquet hall, a young man pushing a wheelchair slowly made his way in.
Sitting in the wheelchair was a man in a sleek black suit. His face was handsome, and he had an
aristocratic air about him. Allison, who was munching on some food at the buffet, did a double–take.
Was this the guy she saw at the Red Jack Club the other day?
He was with Lucian, wasn’t he? His name was Aidan Crane, if she remembered right.
Her eyes darted from Aidan to Lucian, who had returned to Carter’s side.
Once Aidan entered the hall, his assistant, Parker, handed hirn a cane and helped him stand up. They
then started to make their way towards Carter.
Despite his disability, Aidan stood tall and dignified. His good looks and charisma were enough to make
anyone forget about his limp.

Carter looked at him, a satisfied smile twinkling in his eyes, “It’s okay, it’s okay. You’re here now.”
Aidan nodded slightly at Parker, who immediately handed over a fancy wooden box. Aidan’s voice then
rang out, “Grandpa, it’s your birthday. I hope you’ll like this painting.”
Penelope, standing next to Lucian, was fuming. Yet another painting!
Who was this guy who just appeared out of nowhere? Was he trying to piss her off?
The painting was unrolled as Aidan spoke. It was just a normal landscape painting, not even a famous
one, which made Penelope breathe a sigh of relief.
Yet, the moment Carter saw the painting, his face changed dramatically. His normally stern face turned
wistful.
His hand trembled slightly as he reached out, as if he wanted to touch the painting but was afraid of
dirtying it. His caution was as if the painting was a priceless treasure.
It took him a while before he took the painting from Parker, his eyes welling with tears as if
remembering a dear friend, “Aidan, you really know how to touch my heart.”
Carter’s reaction was a surprise to everyone, who looked confusedly at the signature “Sophia Crane”
on the painting.
Cora, standing next to Carter, took the painting from him, sighing almost imperceptibly, “Dad, let me
keep this for you.”
Others may not know who Sophia was, but she knew it all too well.
Sophia, Carter’s first wife, was the eldest daughter of the Crane family.
She couldn’t bear children due to health issues.
Two years after marrying Carter, they adopted a child, Taylor Lindberg. Even without a child of their
own, their love for each other
was strong.

Carter was devastated and treated their adopted son as his own, until he married his second wife,
Robin, and had two sons and a daughter.
The painting was by Sophia herself.
Even after all these years, no one expected it to show up in Carter’s life again after more than fifty
years.
Every time he thought of his late wife, Carter couldn’t help but feel a pang in his heart.
He looked a bit weary, rubbing his temples before saying to Lucian, “You two haven’t seen each other
for a while. You should catch up. Cora, help me to the lounge for a rest.”
Cora nodded and assisted her father to the lounge.
The guests were intrigued by Aidan’s identity, including Allison. She had thought he was just a friend of
Lucian’s when she saw him at the Red Jack Club. But now, it seemed that he had a deep connection
with the Lindberg family.
