“Are you already thinking about our future?” Eltham was over the moon, as if to put her at ease, “Don't worry, I'll make them
agree.”
Brittany remained silent.
Did he even listen to what she said?
“l need to call my son.” Brittany made her request. “He's very attached to me. I've been gone for a week; he must miss me.”
Eltham was silent for a moment.
Brittany refused to eat. “Then, | won't eat.”
Perhaps out of concern for her health, Eltham stood up and handed her the phone with full bars of signal.
“Don’t say anything you shouldn't, five minutes max.”
“No, | want ten minutes.”
Knowing Eltham needed something from her, Brittany pushed her luck.
Her boldness seemed to please Eltham this time, as he smirked, “Alright, you got it.”

Brittany dialed Daniel's number, her eyes full of worry.
Daniel might seem well-behaved and sensible, but in reality, he was extremely insecure.
Having been away for a week, she knew he must be struggling.
At the Sullivan family mansion.
After Brittany was taken by Eltham, Yuri ended up in the hospital too.
The entire Sullivan mansion seemed to quiet down in an instant, and Daniel was taken care of by the staff, though he was visibly
less lively.
Holden kept quiet about the whole situation.
He asked a few times but received no answers and eventually stopped asking, bing more silent by the day.
After lunch, Daniel trudged upstairs, pushed open his bedroom door, and his eyes instantly welled up at the sight of the empty
room.
He walked over to his bed, kicked off his shoes, climbed in, and wrapped himself in his blanket, his little body trembling slightly.
He missed his mom.
He missed his grandpa, he missed dad, he missed the lively Sullivan mansion!
Lying in bed, he couldn't fall asleep, clutching the corner of his blanket, feeling utterly miserable.
Suddenly, his smartwatch rang.
It was Mom!
Daniel's gloom vanished in an instant, and he pressed the answer button, “Mom!”
Hearing Daniel's voice, Brittany almost lost herposure, “Daniel!”
“M-mom—" Daniel was on the verge of tears, fiddling with his smartwatch, “I wanna see you!”
He wanted a video call.
Brittany knew Eltham wouldn't allow it.
“Daniel, be calm.”
Her voice was a bit hoarse, “You're a big boy now, mom has something important to tell you, can we talk?”
Wiping away his tears, even though he knew Brittany couldn't see him, Daniel nodded vigorously, “Yes.”

“Are you okay?”
“Not really.” Daniel shook his head. “Grandpa’s in the hospital, Uncle's been really busy, and the butler has been taking care of
me.”
“Grandpa’s in the hospital?”
Brittany panicked, “What happened? How is he?”
How did he end up in the hospital?
Seeing her agitated, Eltham pressed down on her shoulder, “Calm down, talk.”
Brittany almost lost it but bit her lip in time, “Daniel, how's grandpa doing?”
“The butler said it's stable for now, but he can’t leave the hospital yet.”
“Okay, then you ask the butler to take you to the hospital. Tell grandpa that mom is doing well and not to worry, okay?”
Daniel, remembering his role as a big boy, replied, “I know.”
“Sweetie, mom has sthings to take care of and can’te hfor a while. You need to eat well, go to school, and once you
get a gold star on your final exam, mom will take you back to Imperial City to visit Abby, okay?”
“Okay.”
