Daphne's Point of View After Caleb got back to his meeting, | confirmed the dinner preparations with the catering company. They have absolutely gone above and beyond in their work, and | will ensure that they are tipped graciously for all that they have done. | then retreated to my bedroom for a few moments of alone time. | was emotionally exhausted from my talk with Melissa, but | like the fact that | know more about my birth now.
| paced for a few minuets trying to sort my feelings out in my head and | decided to try and call Dr. Hollis. Unfortunately, | was told that she was with another patient. | know that | could use my status as Luna to interrupt the session, but | did not feel like this was the right thing to do. Besides although | wanted to confide my feelings in someone else, this was not an emergency situation.
| was just sitting down with a magazine when there was a knock at my door. | assumed it was one of the Lunas or even possibly Hannah, but | was pleasantly surprised when | opened the door and found Anita, and Carolyn standing at the threshold.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Luna please pardon the intrusion, but we have something serious that we need to discuss with you if you have a moment.” Anita quickly spoke. Both girls standing beforeare peculiar wolves. Although Anita’s gift has been confirmed, Theo and | have been unable to confirm is Carolyn has a true gift or is just an imaginative child.
“| absolutely have time. Please cin girls. Carolyn, | love your French braids.” One of the reasons we have been unable to confirm if Carolyn has a true gift is the child is only seven years of age. We have had swolves display gifts as early as five, but most of them do not display gifts until they reach puberty and undergo their first shift. Anita nudged Carolyn along into my bedroom. Both girls opted to sit on the couch, so | chose to sit in the rocking chair by the window.
“Now what brings you lovely ladies to see you?” | am curious.
“Carolyn it is ok. The Luna will understand, but you need to tell her.” Anita encourages the younger child. Anita is now seventeen and has displayed the gift of fertility. Along with that gift she has a deep mothering instinct, and | often find her playing with the younger children, and volunteering at the children’s center.
“Sweetheart you have no need to be afraid, especially of me.” | console the child as well.
“Um Luna | seen something, and then | was told something.” She pauses for a second and takes a deep breath. “If | tell you who toldthough you will laugh at me.” The young girl's eyes fill with tears. | quickly get up from my chair and rush to console her, as does Anita.
“Oh my sweet child, | would not laugh at you. Strange things happen all the t| promise.” Theo and | had a hunch that Carolyn could either see visions or see into the spirit world. Unfortunately, neither one of us knew exactly how to approach the youngster about it, without sounding crazy ourselves. Not everyone in our pack knows about peculiar wolves. We decided that the less people knew the better. Now that Carolyn was here, | had a strong feeling that our hunch was correct.
“You promise” her meek voice asked me. | assured her that | promised and then retrieved a few tissues to help clear the girls face.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Sometimes | see people or things that do not belong to our world.” She begins very quietly. “I do not always see them, sometimes | feel them. My mommy thinks that | have imaginary friends, but Luna, | can actually see them, and sof them | know.” | nodded encouragingly for the girl to continue. “Sometimes the people talk to me, and sof them even play with me.” For a moment she has a bright smile on her face. “Mommy does not like forto talk about them, and the other kids think | am lying or crazy.” Again, tears start to form in her eyes. | quickly pull the girl onto my lap to give her more comfort.
“Carolyn are you familiar with the spirit world?” | ask her cautiously. The young girl shakes her head no. “Spirits live all around us, in nature in the trees, even in the very winds that blow around us. When people die in this world, they becspirits. Now speople believe that those spirits are later reincarnated into our wolves, and sbelieve that they serve the Moon Goddess, while others believe that they simply watch over those of us who are still living.” The young girl shakes her head in acknowledgment of my story, so | continue. “Speople have seen these spirits before, but | think you have been blessed my little one. | believe that you have a gift because you can communicate with these spirits. It may be scary at times, and people may think that you are weird, but the people that love you likewill know that you are truly blessed.” “It did not feel like a blessing earlier.” She tellswith a frown.
“What happened earlier?” | prod her.
“Normally the people | see are very nice, but there was a woman that ctoearlier and she was mean. She toldthat | needed to listen to her carefully, but she was huffy and puffy about it.” Carolyn had crossed her arms over her chest, and | could see that the incident had upset her greatly. “So, | was good, and | even put up my crayons so that | could listen to her. She was really upset and kept saying that she could not believe that she has been reduced to this. She toldthat | had to cand find you and tell you that not everyone here can be trusted. She said that Hannah is not Axle’s mate, that it is a trick that someone is playing. She also said that we have a snake, but | tried to tell her that she was wrong because my mommy does not like snakes.
She got mean and toldto shut up and just tell you. She said her nis Amanda, and that she only told you cause Scarlett is in danger.” By now Carolyn was rocking back and forth on my lap, and | was in utter shock.
Not from her words, but because Amanda was my mother.
