Chapter 429

What a vicious woman. We were all previously fooled by her kind, meek appearance.

What a vicious woman. We were all previously fooled by her kind, meek appearance.

The thought of her lost arm and the tragic death of her child made Shannon overwhelmed with fury.

She then yanked out the knife from Keira's chest before stabbing it toward Yvette again.

The slight delay had made Shannon lose her best opportunity to kill Yvette, and God was not going to

give her a second chance, for a large group of bodyguards in black swarmed in.

The leading man was Micah.

The moment Yvette saw Micah, she ignored everything else and threw herself into his arms.

However, Shannon made no move to cease as she trained the sharp knife at Yvette's heart mercilessly

again.

If she could, she would stab Yvette thousands of times over. That was the only way she would be able

to take revenge for what happened in the past.

Her son had died a terrible death, and the woman deserved the same.

It was only then her son would be able to rest in peace.

The hatred grew more and more intense in Shannon's eyes. By then, all her rationality had been

replaced by the resentment in her.

Micah's eyes widened. Before he could dwell much on the situation, he stretched out his arm to block

the incoming blade.

Instantly, crimson blood glided down the blade. The knife was completely embedded in Micah's flesh,

but he did not even flinch from the impact.

Instead, he knitted his brows and looked at Shannon with a pained expression.

Why did she rashly try to assassinate Yvette? Doesn't she know what situation she's now in? How can

this woman be so impulsive? I've already promised her that I won't let this matter go. As long as I find

evidence of Yvette hurting our child, I'll make Yvette pay with her life for her crimes so that our son can

rest in peace. Why did she have to do this and walk down the path of no return?

“Let go,” Shannon enunciated. “If you have a hint of conscience left, then you shouldn't be stopping me

from killing this woman. Eugene died horrendously, so what right does she have to keep living in this

world?”

A wicked woman like her should go to hell and never see the heavens!

Micah pursed his lips and fixed his grim gaze on Shannon.

“You can't kill her before we find any evidence. However, if you've found evidence to prove that she

was the one behind it all, then you don't need to do this. I'll kill her and take revenge for the boy.”

Yvette snapped her head upward to look at Micah tearfully. She choked out, “What do you mean by I'm

the one behind it all? What did I do? Micah, this woman tried to kill me, but you're still trying to defend

her?”

Micah ignored her and continued to stare at Shannon, who was gritting her teeth.

“Say it. Say that you're not here to kill Yvette, and swear on your dead son's chance at reincarnation

that you would never try to kill Yve again.”

Shannon laughed. She laughed and laughed until tears rolled down her face.

She knew that the man was protecting her—that he did not want Tarragon's men to punish her.

But that did not matter.

From the moment she decided to assassinate Yvette, she had cast away thoughts of wanting to live.

She never even thought that she would be able to step out of the room alive.

Therefore, when the man told her to swear on her son's next life, the last bit of hope in her heart died.

“Let go, Micah, and let me stab her to death. Then, I'll apologize to Eugene in the afterlife with her. I

don't want to live anymore. This is my only wish, so please just grant me this wish.”

The determination in Micah's eyes wavered when he heard her death wish, but it only lasted for a few

seconds.

No. I can't fulfill her wish. She mustn't die. If she dies, then what is the point of me living? Why don't I

kill Yvette myself and let all of us go to the afterlife to see Eugene instead?

“I still hold onto the words I said. Before we get any evidence to prove that she was the mastermind, no

one is allowed to lay a finger on her. Shannon, you're a smart woman. I'm sure you know when to push

on and when to stop.”

A melancholic smile spread across Shannon's lips, and she slowly let go of the knife.

She had lost. She had lost to Micah and his lingering feelings for Yvette.

Even though he knew that it was highly likely that Yvette was behind everything, he still stubbornly

wanted evidence first.

What was that but the lingering love he had for her?

If it were someone else who had murdered his son in cold blood, Shannon was certain that he would

have killed them without missing a beat.

Evidence was just an excuse for him to get Yvette out of the matter without being held accountable for

it.

“Micah, I've made a mistake. I've been too stupid. Too dumb to think that you would actually want

revenge for my boy. Even if you're refusing to do anything because of your past feelings for her, you

wouldn't have stopped me from taking my revenge. Now, reality has given me a sobering slap. That

child is the pain in my heart, not yours. Eugene was just a passerby in your life, and whether or not he

ever lived never mattered to you. What words can I say to the one who pities his death but defend his

murderer? I'm glad he's dead, or else I have no idea how terribly upset he would be to find out that he

has such a cruel, heartless father.”

With that, she turned around to the person in charge of Tarragon's branch and said, “Lord Euchler, I've

gone against the rules of your organization by attempting to assassinate Her Royal Highness of

Tarragon, and I've ended up hurting your daughter as well. You've caught me red-handed, so there isn't

any need for interrogation. Just throw me to the branch and execute my punishment.”

Her tone was flat, and no one could hear any emotions in it.

It was not as if she had never seen the torments that went on in Prudent Hall.

In the past, she might have been afraid.

After all, anyone made of flesh and blood would fear painful torture.

However, now that there was no hope in her heart, she was nothing but a soulless puppet.

Death as punishment was what she sought.

Daniel hesitated. Turning to the grim Micah, he tentatively said, “She has admitted to attempting an

assassination on Her Royal Highness. Mr. Neyman, our rules dictate that she must go to Prudent Hall

first. What do you think about that?”

Micah pushed Yvette away and started walking toward Shannon.

When he came to a stop before her, he reached out his bloody hand to caress her cheek.

“Do you have no ties to this world anymore? Is mutual destruction what you want? Shanny, must you

die?”

Shannon lifted her head to look at him before chuckling. “Micah, let's make a promise. Let's not meet

each other in our next lives. I have had enough of loving each other but hurting each other. When I die,

I will plead with God to never let me see you again in my next life.”

Despair crept into Micah's eyes.

He was stopping her from killing Yvette because he did not want to see her die.

However, that woman had no thoughts but death in her head. There was nothing he could do to change

that.

“Okay. Farewell for good, then. Go and be with Eugene, and leave the rest to me. One day, I'll come to

your graves to tell you that you can rest in peace.”
