Chapter 295

Waylon wore a cheerless expression as he glanced around nervously.

Closing her own fists into a steady grip, Beatrice did her best to keep her own emotions in check. Then,

she spoke as calmly as she could. “Don't trouble yourself. I've already sent away all the helpers to

other parts of the house, so go ahead and speak your mind.”

Waylon kept his voice low. “The paternity report states that Ms. Bailey isn't Mr. Jefferson's daughter. W-

What's going on here? I've been with the Jefferson family for over ten years. Back then, Mr. Jefferson's

ex-wife had indeed conceived his child. How is it that the both of them turned out to be biologically

unrelated?”

“Needless to say, Sophia must have cheated on Clarence with another man before she ran back to

him, claiming that the child is his. I'm afraid your poor employer has spent the last few dozen years

raising someone else's daughter,” uttered Beatrice scornfully with a laugh.

“T-Then, should we not inform Mr. Jefferson about this?”

“You'd think?” Beatrice glared at him frostily as she bellowed. “Hasn't it occurred to you that the

realization that he had helped raise the b*stard conceived through his own wife's infidelity might give

Clarence a heart attack? Keep this to yourself and do not tell anyone else about it, do you hear?”

You must be kidding me. Should Clarence learn that Bailey isn't his biological offspring, wouldn't he

have someone dig up everything that happened back in the day? If he were to find out that his real

daughter is with the Shurmer family, how am I to continue to coerce Zoey into doing my bidding?

Should this issue blow up and the Shurmer family finds out that Bailey is actually their kid, it will only

get harder for me to deal with that little b*tch going forward.

Waylon was somewhat hesitant. “Mr. Jefferson has been nothing but great to me, so I don't feel

comfortable keeping this from him.”

Beatrice got to her feet slowly. She then picked up a check off the table and approached him. “Here's

one million. Would this be enough to ease your guilty conscience?”

That offer of all that money made Waylon's eyes light up. After briefly feigning a troubled look on his

face, he purposefully gnashed his teeth. “I suppose it might be better if I withheld this from Mr.

Jefferson in consideration of his health.”

“That's more like it.” Beatrice smiled elegantly while she slipped the check in her hand into his pocket.

“You're a smart man, Dr. Zellman, so I trust that you'll keep that promise. Carry on with your business,

and pretend that nothing has happened here.”

“Y-Yes. Of course.”

After Waylon exited, a vicious smile rippled across Beatrice's face.

Zoey might be inclined to spare Bailey before, but after this, she will have no choice but to eliminate

Bailey or risk losing both her status and everything she owns. This show is only getting started. Apart

from my daughter, no one else deserves to marry into the Luther family. No one!

In the private room of a café by the corner of the street, Scarlett raged at the personal bodyguard who

was kneeling on one knee. “I'm the one who is paying you your salary, Joran, so why are you taking

orders from my brother? Did you forget who was the one who saved you and brought you here to the

Fletcher family?”

Joran's head remained lowered. “It's my fault. Please chastise me as you deem fit, Ms. Fletcher.”

That elicited a subdued sigh from Scarlett. “Oh, forget it. What's the point of blaming you? It's not as

though you are in a position to defy my brother's orders in the first place. Go on and get yourself up

already.”

Joran hesitated before he slowly straightened himself upright. “What should we do next, Ms. Fletcher?

Now that I'm now being watched closely by Mr. Fletcher, I won't be able to send my own men to silence

Veronique and her son anymore. He'll be informed straight away and would surely seek to stop me

should I try anything.”

With her hands clasped tightly around her coffee cup, Scarlett showed a chillingly nefarious look in her

eyes. “Since you can't mobilize your own subordinates, we'll just have to spend the money to enlist the

help of outsiders. Don't the Saviors specialize in dealing with this sort of dirty business? For the right

price, they'd be able to hand the head of the person their client wants on a platter, so go to them and

reach out to the one in charge.”

Joran's eyes lit up. “That reminds me. I have a friend who is with one of the Saviors' branches. He told

me that they were now led by a man named Veikko. I'll get in touch with that buddy of mine and have

him help facilitate this right away.”

“Excellent.” Scarlett lifted up the cup and took a sip of coffee from it before she continued impassively,

“Agree to whatever terms they demand, so long as they are able to rid us of Veronique and her son.”

“Understood.”

Meanwhile, Raiden was inside a five-star hotel, leaning against the floor-to-ceiling window while he

fielded a call with Sloan.

“Is that how you want to handle this, Father? I'm concerned that Lettie would not agree to it.”

“Would not agree?” From the other end came the animated voice of a man that encapsulated a tone of

severity. “If she won't go along with this, then have her brought back to Jadeborough. She can just as

well forget about marrying into the Xuereb family.”

“But this arrangement for Justin to provide his sperm to Ms. Revelle is a little too outrageous. He

already has an illegitimate child. How would Scarlett be able to accept the humiliation of him conceiving

another one through in vitro fertilization?” Raiden replied with a hapless sigh.

“If she can't accept that, then she should come back and stop clinging to Justin. There are plenty of

talented and good-looking young men in Jadeborough who would be happy to marry her, so why does

she need to be so infatuated with that punk?”

Raiden reached up and massaged his own forehead while he forced a crumpled smile. “Why can't we

try to approach this in a more rational manner, Father? We are not going to get anywhere if you won't

stop bringing your own emotions into this conversation.”

A cold snort came back from the other end, and following that, Sloan expressed his own stance

unequivocally. “For starters, let me clarify that the mother and son pair are not to be harmed. No matter

how powerful our family is, we can't be held responsible for the loss of two human lives. Secondly, you

are not to allow your sister to donate her marrow. She is far too weak, so I'm afraid she might not

survive the procedure. The only viable option left for us to pursue here is to have the lass from the

Revelle family conceive another child to save her own son.”

Raiden did not know how to respond to that.

Ignoring his son, Sloan rambled on on his own, “Go and talk this over with her and arrange for her to

take her son out of the country. We will see to it that she will be taken care of so long as she assures

us that she won't seek to come between Justin and Lettie.”

Raiden opened his mouth as though he had something to say but, in the end, gave up in exasperation.

“Very well. I'll find the time to meet with Ms. Revelle and have a proper discussion with her.”

Inside the study at the medical base, Bailey was working away at her laptop when a piece of

international news came up.

It said: Artemis Luther, the head of Luther Group, has injected one billion worth of funds to cover all

future expenses that would be incurred toward the hosting of the Oscars over the next ten years. A

unanimous decision has been made by the Oscars' board of governors to host this year's event in

Hallsbay as a token of appreciation for Mr. Luther's generous contribution.

Bailey's lips twitched vigorously not once, but twice.

Mr. Luther is too f*cking generous, spending millions and billions on a whim the way he does. No. He

can't possibly be throwing money at the Oscars ceremony for nothing. There must be a reason behind

it.

At that moment, the phone left on the table blared. She shook off the random musings in her own head

and reached over for the phone.

Lowering her eyes, she saw that it was a call from Veikko. That made her heart skip a beat. Could it be

that Shannon's whereabouts have been exposed?
