Chapter 193

At that thought, Veronique subconsciously tightened her grip on the steering wheel.

No way. I can't let Justin know of Zephyr's existence. I have to preserve my final ounce of dignity.

Balling her fists, she rolled up both sides of the windows and slammed on the accelerator, increasing

the speed of the car.

Three minutes later, the red sports car drove into the compound of a mansion.

“Ms. Veronique, you're back!” A maid went forward and took the luggage from her.

Veronique looked around and whispered to the maid, “Ellie, I've found a leukemia expert in the capital,

and I've got to bring Zephyr over right away. If someone comes looking for me when I'm gone, tell them

we've gone on a trip, okay?”

Ellie, the maid, was stunned by the news. After returning to her senses, she asked hurriedly, “You've

just come home. Don't you need some rest? Why don't you stay at home tonight and start your journey

tomorrow?”

Waving her hand, Veronique walked into the living room while saying, “It's fine. The expert is an

extremely busy person. I've got to take Zephyr to him at the appointed time.”

“Okay. I'll go upstairs to pack Mr. Zephyr's bags.”

Veronique stopped her. “That's not needed too. I've got a friend in the capital. She'll prepare the

necessities for us. I just need you to pack his medicines. Where's Zephyr anyway?”

Ellie pointed at the tiny garden at the side. “He's drawing in the garden.”

“All right. I'll go check on him. Hurry up and bring all his medications over.”

“Okay.”

Veronique followed the path and made her way to the tiny garden behind the mansion.

From a distance, she saw a tiny figure sitting in front of a drawing board, looking as if he was drawing

something.

Veronique took in deep breaths to suppress the uneasiness within her before strolling forward with a

smile. “Long time no see, Zephyr. Did you miss me?”

The little boy stiffened. He instinctively grabbed the duster and erased the drawing on the drawing

board.

Though he reacted quickly, Veronique still caught a glimpse of the drawing.

He seemed to have drawn a few people. There was a man, a woman, and a child.

She called out, “Zephyr—”

He spun around, revealing his face that was handsome with a tint of paleness caused by his illness—it

was a rather sad sight.

“Aunt Veronique, you're back! Why didn't you give me a call? I could've picked you up from the airport.”

The words “Aunt Veronique” left a stinging pain in Veronique's heart.

Dismissing the bitter look in her eyes, she lifted her head and smiled. “I made a trip to the capital after

leaving Hallsbay and met up with Dr. Bern. I didn't tell you earlier because I had no idea when I'd

return.”

When she finished, she strolled over to him and hugged him. She added, “Dr. Bern Barker has agreed

to treat you. He's an expert in this area. I'm sure he can save you.”

Zephyr forced the corners of his lips upward into a bitter smile, which filled Veronique's heart with pity.

“Aunt Veronique, you're a doctor. I'm sure you know there's only one way to treat leukemia, which is

bone marrow transplantation. Without suitable bone marrow, even Dr. Bern won't be able to help, no

matter how great his skills are. So, you should stop wasting your time on this,” he said.

Veronique reached out and gently flicked his forehead, scolding, “Don't be so negative. Bern can

prolong your life. That'll give me more time to find suitable bone marrow for you.”

Zephyr's eyes darkened, and he said grimly, “Even my parents' bone marrow wasn't a match. What

more can you expect from other people? Aunt Veronique, please stop deceiving yourself.”

“Zephyr—” Veronique raised her voice. Her tone of voice sounded angry.

However, Zephyr quickly hugged her. “Okay, okay. I won't say that anymore. Please don't get angry. It's

just a visit to Dr. Bern's, right? Why don't you get some rest? We can leave for the capital tomorrow.”

“We're going now. Dr. Bern has a strict conception of time. We must not let him wait for too long.”

Veronique pulled him toward the exit of the garden.

Right then, Ellie approached from a distance. “Ms. Veronique, I've placed Mr. Zephyr's medicines in

your car. Are you leaving now? I can prepare some food for you. Maybe you should eat something

before—”

“It's fine.” Veronique led Zephyr along the path and arrived at the courtyard. She then opened the door

and settled him at the back of the car. “Ellie, we're leaving now. If something happens, just do whatever

I've instructed you to do. Understand?”

“Okay.”

Soon, Veronique drove the car out of the courtyard and took a turn somewhere not far away. She then

continued driving it slowly along the road that was surrounded by trees.

From afar, she spotted the familiar slender figure on the sidewalk.

I'm sorry, Justin. Some things are meant to be kept a secret, like the incident that night and Zephyr's

identity.

Right then, Zephyr rolled down the windows. During those brief seconds, he met Justin's gaze.

However, the car sped off like a rocket, leaving only a blurry image in Justin's mind.

Zephyr recognized who that person was.

It's that Medical Genius, Justin Xuereb! Why's he in Salinsburgh? And why is he so near to our

mansion?

“Zephyr, it's windy outside. You should wind up the windows.”

Veronique's voice traveled from the driver's seat, bringing him back to his senses.

“Aunt Veronique, are you and Justin friends?”

The car screeched to a halt, throwing both of them to the front.

Veronique quickly adjusted the gear and smiled. “Sorry. I was too immersed in my thoughts. I hope I

didn't frighten you.”

Zephyr narrowed his eyes and gave her a brief answer to indicate that he was fine. After that, he

repeated, “You and Justin are friends, right?”

Hearing that, Veronique slowed the car down. As she fiddled with the steering wheel, she smiled and

said, “Yes, we are. We were both born in Hallsbay and grew up with the same circle of friends. But we

haven't been in touch recently. Why are you suddenly asking about him? Do you know him?”

Zephyr wound up the windows and answered calmly, “No. I looked into him back then and found that

you kind of had a crush on him. I just asked out of curiosity.”

Veronique chuckled. “I was young and innocent back then. I didn't know what true love was.”

“Really? I think he's quite outstanding. Both of you would make a great couple. It's a pity that he has a

fiancée already. I think you should let it go and not torture yourself.”

Veronique's hands turned white from how tightly she gripped the steering wheel.

Zephyr never talks about a person without a reason. Why is he suddenly talking about Justin? Did he

discover something?

Meanwhile, Justin arrived at Veronique's residence, only to be greeted with disappointment.

However, thanks to the maid, he managed to find out about Zephyr's leukemia.

He wanted to ask more about their whereabouts, but the maid was unwilling to reveal anything. All she

said was they had gone abroad for a trip.

He continued looking around in Salinsburgh but to no avail. In the end, he had no choice but to return

to Hallsbay to attend Caridee's coming-of-age ceremony.
