Chapter 663 | Recognize You Guys

Although this bone was not the Dragon Bone Gerald absorbed, he was sure that it was the Bone of

Eternity.

When Aarav saw this thing, his expression changed. He seemed to have realized something and

sighed. Then, he said to the three people who were wailing, “Call Jefferson Zuniga back and prepare

for the funeral.”

Jefferson must be the eldest son of this family. Now that Tristan’s wife was pregnant with a second

baby, he wanted to nourish her and hunt some game. As a result, he ended up dead.

Gerald, Valery, and the others looked at each other and quietly left. They returned to Joanna’s home.

Just as they arrived, they saw Joanna’s mother carrying a piece of bacon and walking out of the room

with Joanna and her younger brother.

Seeing Gerald, Joanna’s mother smiled. “Grab a seat here. Someone in the village died. I’m too weak

to help, but I have to go and take a look.”

As she spoke, she thought of something and said, “Joanna, stay and cook. Make enough dishes so

they can eat at our place. We have another piece of bacon at home. Go and cook with it.”

Joanna nodded. “Be careful, mom.”

Gerald did not refuse her good intentions. They needed to cook. The dead villager seemed to not affect

Joanna. She nodded at Gerald and the others in embarrassment and said, “I’m going to cook for you.”

She ran to the kitchen.

There were two stoves in the kitchen with a big pot on one of them and a small one on the other.

Joanna skillfully set a fire and then boiled a pot of water.

She put a stool in front of the stoves. Because she was short, she had to stand on the stool to cook.

“Let me help you.” Gerald walked over and said softly.

“No need. Making a fire in the city is different from the way it’s done here.” Joanna smiled.

When the fire grew bigger, Joanna seemed to be quite happy as she skipped out the door.

In the kitchen, the smoke rose. Valery and the others were choked, but they did not say anything.

“Valery, how much cash do you have?” Gerald asked.

“I brought 16 thousand dollars with us and I now have 15K left. Are you going to give the money to

them?” Valery asked.

Gerald nodded and said, “I do, but if we give them too much, they probably won’t accept it. I feel

heartache to

T see a little girl cooking by herself. Let’s talk about it when we are eating. We have to pay for this

meal.”

“Hmm.” Carolyn nodded. “This place is too remote. Joanna is a good girl. We have to help her as much

as we could.”

As they spoke, they walked out of the house and found that Joanna was holding a sickle and carrying a

basket on her back. She walked into a small garden. She looked around and finally cut a cabbage, a

few gourds, and cucumbers.

When she came back, her nose was covered in sweat. She said to Gerald and the others in

embarrassment. “We only grow three kinds of vegetables.”

“It’s fine.” Valery smiled. “Joanna, make a fire. I’ll cook for you.”

“Hmm?” Joanna was stunned. “Can you cook?”

“You have no idea,” Gerald said with a smile.

They had few ingredients except for salt and chili pepper.

Valery was in the kitchen.

Soon, they saw Aarav and the middle-aged woman walking back. Aarav sighed, “A person just died like

that. I told Tristan again and again that he could not go to that place. We lost someone back then, but

he just didn’t

believe me.”

Hearing this, Gerald realized something.

He had seen the Bone of Eternity. According to Aarav, it seemed that he had once gone to that place

with

Tristan.

Gerald walked to the door and asked, “Do you know how he died?”

“I think so.” Aarav sighed, “When we were young, we were bold. We didn’t listen to the seniors’ advice

and went deep into the mountain. We once went quite deep and lost our balance. Then, we fell into a

cave-like tomb. There, we found the jade Tristan was holding. We picked two pieces. When we came

it.”

Aarav swore.

As he spoke, Aarav sighed again, “Jefferson is still a student. He has good grades and needs tuition

fees. Tristan’s wife is pregnant and he probably wants to go into the mountains to try his luck. He

brought one piece of the jade back at the cost of his life.”

Gerald was deep in thought. Because of the middle-aged woman and the boy, he did not ask much.

Aarav sighed for a while and said, “You haven’t eaten yet, right? Go to my place and I will cook for

you.”

Gerald was stunned and then said, “Okay, I will go up with you. They will eat here.”

Aarav did not say much and took the initiative to walk forward. After leaving, he said, “Joanna comes

from a poor family. Her father is a security guard outside, and he can’t earn much money.”

Gerald nodded. “Don’t worry, we won’t eat for free. I’d like to ask you something. Which one is farther?

Your

destination or ours?”

“Yours,” replied Aarav.

Gerald was dumbfounded. “How can you have the gut to go?”

Aarav coughed. He sized up Gerald and said, “The villagers did not recognize you, but I did. I

recognized you guys when you arrived.”

“Recognize what?” Gerald’s heart skipped a beat.

“You are Watchmen, right?” Aarav asked with a smile.

Gerald was surprised.

“Don’t get me wrong,” Aarav explained. “Not long ago, I went to the town to play cards. We had a TV

near us and the anchor kept talking about Watchmen. I saw that the clothes they wore were the same

as what you are wearing. I know that Watchmen are capable people.”

Aarav did not hide anything and said, “So, I was thinking about going with you. You are competent. If I

am lucky enough, I can pick up a few pieces of jade and sell them to get the money to move to the

town.”
