Chapter 780

The following day, Evelyn showed up at the Gardner Residence bright and early in a light blue bodycon dress, a pair

of white heels, and a limited-edition designer bag in her hand. She looked like the sweet girl next door, especially

with the baby steps she took.

She was wearing a sweet smile on her face right then, for she'd be seeing Colton very soon.

Knowing Colton had grown impassive toward her because of the drug, she decided to get through to him via

Benedict, for the elder was getting on in years and also credulous. What was more, their families had business

dealings with each other. Thus, with just a few words, she got the old man down.

So what if Colton liked Nicole? With what William did to Ella, nothing would become of the relationship, no matter

how much Colton liked the woman.

Delight overcame Evelyn as the thought crossed her mind, and she hummed a tune while heading into Gardner

Residence.

As soon as she entered the house, she found Anna and Benedict sitting on the couch, seemingly talking about

something until they looked toward the main door, having heard noises coming from that direction.

Evelyn immediately put on a sweet smile and approached the two. She first landed her gaze on Benedict and

greeted, "Old Mr. Benedict, Mrs. Gardner."

As Evelyn was a descendant of old money, her actions and behavior were none but perfectly courteous.

Benedict nodded with a smile as he rested one hand on his walking stick. "Come, child, have a seat," he ushered

gently.

To that, Evelyn nodded and sat next to Benedict like an angel.

She had put on very light makeup to the point where it looked like she wasn't wearing any, accentuating her

innocent side.

"Grandpa's doing alright. He still does yoga in the yard every day. He's also been bringing you up every now and

then, saying it's high time you visit him," said Evelyn when Benedict asked about Edward.

At that, Benedict couldn't help lamenting, "Yeah, I should… I already have one foot to the grave. Who knows when

I'll eventually lay in it? Perhaps I might never get to see him again."

Evelyn made a moue at once. "Touch wood, Old Mr. Benedict! Of course, you'll see him again when you're in the

pink. I already heard from Colton; what you did was just a minor surgery. You'll be fine after a period of

recuperation."

The young woman was a sweet talker, to begin with. Though she normally never buttered up to anyone, she blurted

everything she knew Benedict would love to hear.

After guffawing, Benedict turned to Anna. "Go and get Colton. How can he hide upstairs when the guest has already

arrived?!"

Anna obliged, then headed upstairs.

Meanwhile, Evelyn dedicatedly buttered up to Benedict, and humans would get nostalgic after getting on in years,

especially loving to reminisce about the old days. As Benedict and Edward were close when they were younger,

Evelyn and Benedict grew familiar with each other in no time.

Moments later, Colton came down with Anna. As he was home the entire day, he was dressed casually. He seemed

to have just washed his hair and hadn't blown dry it, for it was still damp and flopped loosely on his head.

He appeared somewhat relaxed with his hands in his side pockets while wearing a pair of slippers, looking very

different from his usually polished side.

He looked more like the boy next door that day.

The moment Colton appeared, Evelyn latched her eyes on him, and she unknowingly displayed her infatuation on

her face as she looked at his ravishing countenance.

It wasn't until Benedict cleared his throat that she realized she had lost herself. With that, she withdrew her gaze

and lowered her head in embarrassment.

On the other hand, a chuckle escaped Benedict when he saw Evelyn's flushed face.
