Chapter 1285 In Good Condition

Colton took out a glass and a bottle of wine from the cabinet. He sat on the floor and proceeded to drink glass after

glass, hoping that consuming enough wine would somehow draw Nicole back to him if he drank enough.

The alcohol provided a fleeting solace, temporarily numbing his mind from the pain. Yet, he understood this relief

was ephemeral; the impending dawn would thrust him back into anguish again. Hence, he was compelled to

continue drowning his sorrows in alcohol and seeking solace in its embrace.

The business world called him a decadent man who indulged in women and neglected business, but that was far

from the truth. He had become aware of Ryan's share acquisition and had chosen to play along, intending to take

down Ryan and the mastermind behind it.

At this moment, Colton's eyes grew hazy, his vision doubling as intoxication deepened. Despite his excessive

drinking, he noticed a decline in his alcohol tolerance where a small amount now made him tipsy.

"So, what if I'm drunk? Still doesn't change the fact she's still happily dating that guy," he muttered, a bitter sneer

forming on his lips as he recalled the image of the two-month-old baby ultrasound scan.

Sleep eluded him that night, leaving him restless and sour.

The next day came as if nothing had changed, yet everything had changed.

"Hey, Nicole, where are you? Breakfast time. You need to move around more to help your recovery. You can't just

stay locked up in your room." Albert's voice echoed outside Nicole's door early in the morning. No matter how hard

they tried, no one else could dissuade him, but truth be told, they didn't want to stop him. After all, they knew he

was right since confining herself inside the room wasn't conducive to her physical recovery, let alone her emotional

well-being.

Nevertheless, she didn't respond immediately, but he persisted, calling out patiently, "Nicole!"

"Coming!" She finally answered and swiftly opened the door. With an affectionate tone, she purred, "I just wanted to

sleep in."

Albert's face lit up as he saw Nicole's liveliness. That was precisely what he had hoped to see. "Come on. Roxanna

and Chloe made your favorites for you. You have to eat them all up." Then, he took her downstairs as he muttered

under his breath.

She put on a resigned smile and followed him quickly. Nonetheless, she was concerned that he might miss a step if

he focused entirely on her, and she didn't want him to accidentally stumble.

Seeing the interaction, Roxanna and Chloe exchanged a knowing smile. They could not help but rejoice, knowing

the old Nicole was back. Since Nicole looked dejected the night before, they thought she was still in the gutters, and

they brainstormed ideas to perk her up. It turned out that they didn't need those plans after all; Nicole had regained

her vitality.

"Let's go," Roxanna said, taking Chloe's hand and approaching the duo.

Soon, the atmosphere in the research center brightened once more.

"Roxanna and Chloe showed me the report, Nicole. Everything is fine, so don't worry," Albert reassured everyone.

As the meal came to an end, he set down his utensils. "Didn't notice how far along you were in your pregnancy,

given that I was in a hurry. As long as you're alright, though. Nothing matters more."

Earlier that morning, the two women had hurried to him with the tattered report. Despite the holes in the paper, he

managed to glean something, and he was relieved after seeing the report's content. He had to check on Nicole

after she was saved, but she might be unable to take it. As he said, nothing mattered more than her safety. Though

he delayed the checkup, he was grateful that Nicole and the baby were healthy.

A soft melancholy shadow crossed Nicole's eyes, and she said softly, "Thank you."

In the meantime, Chloe quickly picked up on Nicole's downcast mood but chose not to vocalize it. Instead, she

smiled and said, "The whole center's been a mess since you fell sick. You gotta straighten things out. This place

can't run without you."
