Chapter 391

There were only three days left until the end of the holiday and the start of the new school year.

The weather was splendid, warming up gradually. Old leaves were falling, and new buds dotted the branches.

Everything spoke of the hopes for the new year.

Cherise splurged on lots of new clothes. She still loved everything beautiful, as always.

She thought she took after her grandmother in this Every girl wanted to look pretty and had the right to dress

up, no matter if they were stunning or not, tall or short, thin or plump.

Today, she wore a pink turtleneck sweater and a pair of slim-fit light blue jeans. On her feet were her usual

casual off-white canvas sneakers.

Her long hair was styled into a high, cute bun, making her look charming. She checked herself in the mirror,

grabbed her bag, and headed downstairs.

Morris went ona business trip and would be back tomorrow. As usual, Hugh was driving.

When Hugh saw Cherise, he flashed his typical goofy grin. "Wow Mrs. Chivers, you look stunning today. Mr.

Chivers is so lucky to have you. "There's a saying that describes you two, but it just slips my mind." Hugh

chuckled and scratched his head. Hugh pulled up at a traffic light and had a flash of memory. He turned to

Cherise. "Mrs. Chivers, it's cradle-snatching. That's used to describe you and Mr. Chivers. With that, he turned

back as the light turned green and continued driving.

Cherise couldn't help but chuckle softly. What she was going to do today was supposed to be serious, but now

she felt much more relaxed.

Half an hour later, the car slowly pulled up to the familiar vegetarian restaurant they had visited twice before.

Gourmet Galaxy. The person she was supposed to meet was already waiting at the entrance.

As soon as Cherise got out of the car, the person standing at the door cforward to greet her, "Cherise, it's

been a while, You're looking more youthful and radiant than ever.

"Even though Christmas has passed, for us older folks, it's not truly over yet. Here, this is a gift | prepared for

you. Merry Christmas!"

Cherise smiled and nodded, observing the usual etiquette. "Merry Christmas, Rayburn." She reached out to

accept the gift. Rayburn grinned even more after Cherise took the gift. 'Great. Let's head inside. It's the same

room as the last two times." Unlike the previous two meetings, this tthey had a big lunch before starting the

chess game.

After a few games, Rayburn laughed, "Cherise, | have to say, you've gottoday. | didn't think your chess game

would improve this much just a few months after Christmas, but | feel like your chess strategy harchanged.

"It's hard to describe, but it's like there's more boldness and determination than before. | dare say there's no one

better than you in all of Clusia.

Cherise lowered her head with a slight smile, "Actually, there is someone."

Rayburn asked curiously, "Oh Who is it? I'm quite curious."

Cherise looked up at him, meeting his gaze, and said slowly. "It was my grandmother. Sadly, she's not with us

anymore,

Yet, when she mentioned it, he couldn't help but feel a pang of regret and a touch of sympathy for Cherise.

"What a shame." he said. Cherise pressed her lips together, still looking at Rayburn. "Rayburn, aren't you curious

about my grandmother's name?"

Rayburn finally sensed that something was different about Cherise today. There was an air of mystery about her,

tinged with a light sadness. His slightly aged fingers involuntarily tightened a bit, filled with an eager urge to

know. "Cherise, I'm all ears."

Hearing this, Cherise paused, took a sip of coffee to moisten her throat, and then began calmly, "My

grandmother's nis Amelia Garcia." Upon hearing the name, Rayburn felt an indescribable sense of loss. He

recognized that name.

Cherise continued, "However, before she was known as Amelia, she had another name. It was Megan Lanley."

As soon as Cherise finished her sentence, the cup Rayburn held slipped heavily from his grasp. It shattered into

pieces upon hitting the tiled floor.

His enlarged, wrinkled eyes, a testament to the years, fixed intently on Cherise, studying her closely. Both of his

hands trembled, shaking uncontrollably.

He looked like his throat was being squeezed, his eyes welling up with tears, but he remained silent, continuing

to gaze at Cherise.
