Chapter 12 James smirked, a teasing glint in his eye. "Natalie, you throw around words like a guy, not a lady." Her cheeks flamed red. "What's that supposed to mean?" she shot back, trying to sound more annoyed than flustered. "Just getto my room." James complied, lifting her into the elevator. Curious, Natalie asked, "James, why not take the stairs? It could be a nice workout carryingup." James rolled his eyes playfully. "You're no lightweight, you know" He brushed off her question about the stairs, sure that his leather jacket and floral shirt were enough to turn heads without needing any extra workout.

Natalie smiled, grateful for her brother's support. He was her rock, and she no longer needed anyone else's approval. With James by her side, nothing else mattered.

In her past life, she had chased her biological family's affection, only to face pain and disappointment, losing her beloved grandpa and brothers in the end. But that was behind her now.

Three months had gone by since her departure, and the silence from the Simpson family suggested that Wendy hadn't uncovered any truths. In her past life, Wendy had died in ignorance, and it seemed this twould be no different. "James, I was the one who saved Mrs. Spencer. Can you believe it?" Natalie asked, seeking his support.

He was surprised. "You saved her?" he questioned, his expression darkening as he considered Jennifer's claim for all the credit utterly brazen.

"Yes, and because of that, it might be tough for you to work with the Spencers." Natalie expressed her concern.

The business climate was challenging. The Simpson Group was formidable, yet the competition was cutthroat. Murray, who appeared to be a laid-back playboy, was actually a shrewd and efficient operator in the business world.

In her past life, she'd only heard stories about Murray, but meeting him revealed he was a business mastermind like Easton. By including him in their group, she'd accidentally created a powerful rival, which troubled her greatly. James brushed off her concern. "We don't need them. There are plenty of other opportunities. Who knows, maybe the Spencers will be out of the picture soon." Natalie admired her brother's optimism, but she was determined to seek out a different solution.

As they talked, James took her to her room to rest, tucking her into bed and ruffling her hair. "Don't worry, Natalie. We're Simpsons-we don't need to rely on anyone else," he said gently With a teasing glint in her eyes, Natalie declared, "I'm going to forget my troubles and daydream about a bunch of cool guys all trying to impress me." James fled the room, worried he might somehow end up in her daydreams.

Natalie just shook her head, amused. She was just having sfun with him.

After he left her to rest, Natalie lay on her bed, her thoughts whirling. She knew if Jennifer discovered she was the true savior, it would spell disaster. Jennifer was a master at e manipulation, and Natalie had seen her in action. Natalie was at the scene and knew Murray would check the footage for Emma's incident. She guessed Jennifer would erase the evidence before he could.

Natalie jolted upright, recalling her instructions to Luna. She grabbed her phone, but before she could make a call, lit buzzed with a call from Easton. "Great timing," she grumbled, answering the phone.

"Natalie, what were your thinking, going after Mrs. Spencer like that?" Easton's voice was angry and demanding through the phone.
