Chapter 572
Genevieve soon found herself blushing really hard as the memories from last night started flooding in
Her train of thought was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing.
Opening the door, she saw Cooper standing outside with breakfast in hand.
Noticing the awkward look on her face, Cooper said, “I went looking for you two at Primrose River last night. Jane is with me at the moment. I can talk to Jane if you object to us being together.”
He had told Jane that he wouldn’t refuse any of Genevieve’s requests as he belonged to her.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHaving been snapped out of her daze, Genevieve replied, “I only had you head over to Primrose River because I was putting up an act with Bertilla. I’m really happy that you and Jane are together, so why would I object to your relationship?”
Cooper breathed a sigh of relief as he entered the house.
“Then why do you look so unhappy to see me?”
“Huh? I do? Maybe it’s because of the discomfort from my period,” Genevieve mumbled as she followed him into the dining hall.
Not suspecting a thing, Cooper asked worriedly, “Do you want me to buy you some medicine?”
“No, that won’t be necessary. It doesn’t hurt much anymore,” Genevieve replied, feeling uncomfortable as she recalled the incident from last night.
She then munched on a pie to distract herself as she asked, “Coop, did you manage to secure the footage from the surveillance cameras around the scene of the accident?”
The look on Cooper’s face turned slightly gloomy as he said, “I did, but it was useless. I had someone look up the company the truck was from. According to the driver, he lost his truck when he went to use the restroom and filed a police report immediately after. The guy in the surveillance camera footage was wearing a cap and a mask, so we couldn’t see his face at all. The truck was later found at a nearby marketplace. As the truck driver was helping his colleague out last night, both his company and colleague are able to testify for him.”
Genevieve’s heart sank when she heard that, but there wasn’t much she could do.
Sylvie‘s granddad is General Zeigler. His bodyguards are all retired special forces soldiers, so it makes perfect sense that Sylvie could commit those crimes without leaving any evidence behind.
At the thought of that, Genevieve narrowed her eyes. “That guy was killed shortly after we agreed on a place to meet. I think his phone may have been bugged.”
Given how large Jadeborough was, it would’ve taken Sylvie a lot of time just to find the guy.
“The guys cleaning up the scene of the accident told me that his phone was missing. I had them
track down where he was staying, but all they found at his place were some clothes and other useless stuff,” Cooper said with a sigh.
“If only I was a little more careful… I should’ve asked him to tell me the address using a stranger’s phone instead,” Genevieve mumbled.
“Genev, nothing will happen to Sylvie even if he testifies against her. No amount of evidence will do us any good if Old Mr. Zeigler is supporting her,” Cooper stated.
“That’s fine. She isn’t the only one with lots of time on her hands. Collusion of government oflicials and entrepreneurs is a huge no-no, and Old Mr. Zeigler’s second son is Baykeep’s party secretary. The Zeigler family will be finished if something were to happen to him. Sylvie will have no one to protect her, then,” Genevieve said calmly.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHaving realized what she meant, Cooper reminded her, “Destroying the Zeigler family is harder than you think, Genev. The whole process will take at least a few years. You should just leave this to me.”
“Yeah, I know. Right now, all I need is to halt Sylvie’s career progression in the entertainment industry,” Genevieve replied calmly.
She was determined to prevent Sylvie from getting what she wanted.
Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing.
Cooper told Genevieve to carry on eating while he answered the door.
The man standing at the door had a large frame and a clean appearance. The look in his eyes, however, was a bit too mature for someone of his age.
Cooper had read up some information on Bruce after hearing about him, but this was the first time they had met in person.
For some reason, he felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity when he looked at Bruce.
“Is there something I can help you with?” Cooper asked coldly as he shifted his gaze toward the food jar in Bruce’s hand.
