Chapter 550

Upon seeing that the elderly man spoke with a hint of authority, Genevieve reckoned that he must have
been a leader in the past.
Embarrassed to turn him down further, she handed her luggage to the driver. “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
When the bodyguard opened the car door, Herbert and Genevieve climbed into the car, one after
another
After Genevieve had gotten into the car, she received a call from her housekeeper in Dartan. She
moved closer to the car door and spoke to the housekeeper in Granatanolan.
Herbert remained silent without interrupting her.
Only after she had hung up the phone did he query, “Judging from your exceptional aura and the fact
that you know Granatanolan, you’re an interpreter?”
“Yeah. I studied in Dartan but returned to my country after graduating. I was only an interpreter for a
few months. Right now, I’m a small-time business owner.” Genevieve put her phone into her bag.

It was as though something occurred to him, for a faint smile showed on his face. “My wife was also an
interpreter when she was young. That aside, she was a prodigy at crossing swords with others.”
His wife was the kind of woman who looked exceedingly gentle, appearing meek and biddable.

However, she was also the one who spoke like a bullet train during important meetings attended by
tens of thousands of people and global leaders, every word hitting right where it hurt and rendering
them dumbfounded.
It was so bad that horrified expressions showed on those bigwigs’ faces whenever they spotted her
speaking
As Genevieve listened to him speak of his wife’s anecdotes, she couldn’t help bursting into giggles,
“Are you afraid, then? With her speaking so many languages, you wouldn’t know if she were to curse
you out when the two of you have a row one day.”
“I’m not afraid. In my eyes, she’s an incredibly gentle woman. Furthermore, I never had a row with hey ever since we got married,” Herbert crowed.
Even if there were minor conflicts between them, whenever he went to the army base, it would be for a
few months.
By the time he returned, they would have both forgotten why they had previously fought.
“I can tell that you love your wife very much.” Only when a person spoke of someone he loved
would his face and eyes reflect overwhelming tenderness and smile.
Herbert nodded, “Yeah, I love her very much… But she has left mc.”
He heaved a sigh.
Genevieve was startled for a moment before she murmured, “As long as you still remember and love
her, she’ll always be in your heart.”
Althat, Herbert froze. In no time, he chuckled heartily, his despondency all but gone. “You‘re right! How
foolish of me to think that she has left me.”
After the car got off the highway, it came to a stop at the entrance of a particular hospital.
Taking her suitcase from the driver, Genevieve waved to Herbert in the car. “Thank you for the lift.”
“It was nothing.” Herbert flashed her an amicable smile.
As her suitcase wasn’t heavy, Genevieve took it along to the inpatient department. She went to the
information counter and put her inquiries to the nurse before taking the elevator to the eighth floor.
It was a private ward that was pretty small. The hospital bed was adjacent to the window, so large
amounts of sunlight streamed in through the window.
A gray-haired elderly woman lay on the hospital bed with her eyes closed. The sunlight spilled on her,

Genevieve placed her suitcase at the side and walked over to the hospital bed, taking the woman’s
hand gently.
The elderly woman opened her eyes. When she saw Genevieve, her dull eyes lit up, and she grasped
the latter’s hand tightly.
“Ms. Rachford.”
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t keep my word to you,” Genevieve whispered.
She once promised to bring Armand over to visit her.
Alas, the man had already gotten into a plane crash by the time she remembered about it.
The elderly woman shook her head, her breathing weak. “You aren’t to be blamed. Instead, I’ve got to
thank you for letting me know that Ms. Valentine’s son is still alive, and she even has a grandson and granddaughter.”
Even if I were to die now, I have no regrets.
“Ms. Rachford, I’ve got no children, so could you please handle my funeral after my death? You can
bury me anywhere,” the elderly woman implored,
In response, Genevieve nodded. “Sure.”
She kept the elderly woman company in the hospital room and fed her some food. At three o’clock in
the afternoon, she left the hospital room.
She sought the elderly woman’s attending physician out. “May I know if there’s still hope for her?”
