Chapter 406
Cynthia paused for a moment before responding calmly, “He won’t take advantage of
me.”
Joshua was skilled, but she believed they would be evenly matched if it came to an actual
fight between them. She would not be at a disadvantage.
“Men will do everything they can to get what they want, especially when you’re dealing
with someone like Joshua,” Moet warned, forgetting entirely about Cynthia’s fighting
prowess and treating her like a damsel in distress.
Cynthia did not quite know how to respond. After a moment of silence, she decided, “I’ll
have Jimmy pick me up later. You go home first.”
“Alright,” Moe agreed quickly,
Watching her end the call, Joshua could feel a cold sensation creeping up his spine. Was
she leaving?

“Yes,” Cynthia answered nonchalantly.
She dialed Jimmy’s contact and gave him instructions and an address before hanging up.
Seeing Cynthia arrange all this, Joshua felt a huge weight pressing down on his chest,
making breathing hard. Did she dislike being with him so much? Even if it was just for one
night?
“After the third traffic light, find a place without surveillance cameras and drop me off,”
Cynthia instructed Yoel
Yoel obeyed without thinking. “Alright.”
However, this made Joshua’s eyes flash with icy coldness
Yoel felt an icy chill at the back of his neck but ignored it, concentrating on driving
“What will you do if our ruse is exposed tomorrow, given you leave now?” Joshua could
only resort to these questions in desperation
“No one will know if you do not tell them.” Cynthia’s tone was nonchalant. She had
prepared Jimmy to take care of any potential issues. She could leave safely,
“Is it because you’re worried about how Moe might react? Is that why you’re changing
your plans so suddenly?” Joshua could only think of this as a reason.
“No. I simply do not want to spend the night with you.” Cynthia’s responses remained as
blunt as ever, still in her cold, indifferent tone.
The atmosphere in the car immediately became heavy, almost palpably, causing Joshua’s
mood to plummet. Yoel did not dare utter a word, fearing that he might unintentionally
upset his boss. The car was eerily silent for the rest of the journey. After passing the third
traffic light, Yoel pulled over. Cynthia got out, and this time, Joshua did not attempt to stop
her.
He knew himself to be not the kind of man who begs or pleads. He understood that
nothing he could say or do at this moment would cause Cynthia to change her mind. Once
she made a decision, no one could sway her.

“You go ahead. Jimmy will be here soon.” Cynthia noticed Yoel’s hesitation and broke the
silence.
“No worries, we’ll wait until you get in the car,” Yoel assured her.
“Drive,” Joshua commanded coldly.
“Are… are you sure?” Yoel asked.
Without a word, Joshua only responded with his cold, emotionless gaze. Yoel shivered, not
daring to disobey his boss’s command. After telling Cynthia to call if she needed anything,
he drove off.
Halfway through the journey, Joshua, seeming to have pent–up frustration, let it all out on
Yoel. “If you like Cynthia so much, why don’t you go work for her?
“Don’t you like Ms. Yates?” Yoel neatly dodged the question.
“Have I been too indulgent with you lately? Is that why you think I’m so easy to get along
with?” Joshua could not get the image of Cynthia’s relaxed demeanor during her phone
call out of his mind. She must trust her assistant immensely to be so relaxord
