“Mel Construction?” Toph repeated, processing the new information.

his actions closely and discovered the existence of Mel Construction, a shell corporation!”

sophisticated fraud system.
Renee’s hands trembled as she shared this information, and Toph comfortingly warmed them against his chest. He
urged her to continue, wanting to know more.
“Go on, Renee. What else did he do with the company?” Toph encouraged her gently.
Renee laid her head down briefly and then looked up with determination in her eyes.
“Do you remember the AM Building collapse case that made headlines?” she asked, her voice grave.
Toph was taken aback but quickly nodded in recognition.
“Although the building was not in Jangasas nor Centrolis, it was in a city similar to the two. The constructing
company behind it was Mel Construction,” Renee revealed.
“AM Building collapsed during construction halfway through. The cause was that Melvin cut corners by using
substandard cement and rebar,” she explained.
“But it was a major news story at the time.” Toph frowned, puzzled. “Yet Melvin is walking around freely, going
wherever he wants…”
“Yes, he got away with it,” Renee said, locking her gaze with his. “He found a scapegoat to take the blame and be
imprisoned in his place. However, the company suffered, and he planned to use me to extract money.”
Renee’s resolve burned brightly in her eyes as she declared, “But I won’t let him win! My mom taught me from a
young age not to harm others. I won’t wrong Pammy either.”
