Chapter 89 I should have known better than to look-it only upset me.

As I was about to turn my gaze away, I saw Chris turn his head. His eyes met mine through the window, and he frowned.

I didn't linger on him, instead turning my attention to Brandon. He was done. ordering and the waiter was repeating his order. Surprisingly, the dishes he'd chosen were all my favorites. But how could he know what I liked? He didn't knowwell enough for that. Maybe we shared the spreference.

I looked at him, wanting to ask, but my mouth barely moved before I decided against it. Asking too much would show cared, and I couldn't let Brandon get that impression.

So, instead, I asked, "Do you want a beer?" "I don't drink," he refused, "and I bave things to do this afternoon." Oh right, he had to go house hunting. I thought that was why he refused, so I said, "It's fine. I'll go with you this afternoon. I won't let anyone take advantage of you." "No need. I've already he trailed off. I watched him, curious about what he was going to say.

His dark eyes met mine, unwavering. "I've already decided to choose on my own. I want to look at more places." I nodded, relieved. I didn't want to go with him anyway. It would be tiring, and if the place he rented turned out to be a problem, I'd feel responsible.

Since he didn't want a drink, I ordered two non-alcoholic beverages.

Suddenly, the light in front ofdimmed, followed by a voice I knew all too well. "Weren't you on a tight work schedule? How cyou're sitting here having lunch?" Chris, that sc*mbag, finally made his way in.

I wonder what kind of tale that b*tch, Jewel, spun for him.

The way he spoke madewant to smack him across the face. So we couldn't have a meal break because of deadlines.

I looked up, about to retort, but Brandon beatto it. "It's our day off today." Chris shot him a cold look, then turned to me. "Who approved this day off?" "I requested it," Brandon again spoke before I could.

Chris's face grew colder. "You? You're only a lowly lighting technician. What gives you the right to demand a day off? Your job is to fully cooperate with us to complete and verify the lighting adjustments." Chris's words were a blatant insult.

I was fired up too. "Mr. Gildon, I'm in charge of the amusement park project. I approved today's break. You can't expect the donkey to keep working if you don't let it eat." Though the metaphor was off, it hit the mark.

As I finished, Brandon chimed in. "I may just be a lowly lighting technician, but isn't it your side that urgently needs us?" Chris, confronted by both of us, turned livid.

"Fine, take your break. Eat well and recharge. This meal's on the company," Chris spat out, storming off to settle the bill at the counter.

I smirked. "Mr. Howell, we should have ordered more." Brandon looked at me, saying nothing. His gaze inexplicably madefeel diffident.

I was about to lower my head when he said, "You got a message."

"Really? Letsee," He passedmy phone which was placed nean him. One glance and my ears turned red.

The message was from Lisa. "Is Mr. Howell impotent? How else could the share a room and not make a move En on a pretty woman like you?" I wished I could slap myself. It was all my fault for sharing this news with her.

This morning, I had told Lisa about awkwardly falling asleep in Brandon's Chapter 89 room. She hadn't replied until now.

If she wasn't going to reply, she should have just left it. But why did she have to reply right when Brandon had my phone? And with a message like that. Embarrassed, I didn't dare look up. Brandon's low voice broke the silence. "I'm in perfect health. That function works just fine." I was speechless.
