Marcus furrowed his brow, his gaze falling on her soft hand clutching the hem of his shirt, his heart instantly
softened, “Do you enjoy being called Mrs. Hartley?”
Cornelia answered. Td rather be called Mrs. Artis!”
Technically speaking, the name of her spouse on her marriage certificate was Jeremy, not Marcus. She should
rightfully be called Mrs. Artis.
Marcus was speechless. This girl always had a way of stabbing his heart with a single sentence.
They walked down the long hallway, getting closer and closer to room 8888.
The door to room 8888 was wide open, and Cornelia could hear the conversation inside before she saw anyone.
Hannah said, “President Hartley’s love for his wife is legendary. But as his friends, we’ve yet to meet her.”

Rosie said, “It’s just wishful thinking on my part, I sincerely wish President Hartley and his wife a lifetime of
happiness.”
Lucas took over, “Honey, do you really think Marc and his assistant look like a couple?”
Rosie said, “I can’t talk about this anymore. If anyone hears, Cornelia might lose her job. Cornelia’s such a darling,
I’d feel guilty for a lifetime if I caused her to lose her job.”
Lucas said, “Marc isn’t here yet. The waiter would let us know when he arrives. Feel free to speak your mind.”
Rosie asked, “You really want to know? When did you start taking such an interest in others‘ affairs?”
Lucas said, “I’m not interested in others‘ affairs, I’m only interested in Marc’s.”
Rosie said, “If you really want to know, I’ll tell you. I don’t know if it’s just my imagination, but I think President
Hartley has a thing for Cornelia. The way he looks at her is different from how he looks at us. A few times, I caught
President Hartley stealing glances at Cornelia when she wasn’t paying attention. His gaze was so smitten and
adoring, as though he wanted to devour her. I don’t know what his wife thinks, but if Lucas, you ever looked at
another woman like that, I wouldn’t stand for it.”
Hearing this, Cornelia outside the door quietly looked up at Marcus, “Did you really used to sneak peeks at me?”
Marcus answered, “Yeah.”
His answer was straightforward, without a hint of evasion, leaving Cornelia at a loss for words.
Marcus added, “That wasn’t until I knew you were my wife.”
Cornelia asked. “But you denied it when I asked if you liked me.”
Marcus said, “Just listen to what they’re saying ”

Zavier, quietly sipping his drink, let out a cold laugh, “I’ve already said I wouldn’t come tonight, but you insisted, and
now you’re praising their marriage. How boring.”
Steven said, “We couldn’t have our gathering without you.”
Zavier said, “You’re all paired up. Have you ever considered my feelings?”
Steven said, “Isn’t your family looking for a spouse for you? All young and beautiful ladies from reputable families.
None of them are lesser than Skyler, but you’re not into any of them?”
Zavier said, “As long as that marriage is still valid, I’m a married man. I don’t want to be accused of bigamy”
Steven said, “I didn’t realize your feelings for Skyler were so deep.”
Zavier said, “Go fuck yourself!”
