Ella’s POV My adrenaline was exploding! Colton was alive and standing in front of me, facing the dozens of Volanas that were flooding toward us. His mother, Diana, was in the lead and she was huge! She was one of the most glorious beasts | had ever seen.
A spark of electricity rushed out of her paws and her eyes were glowing an assortment of colors. | could feel the strength of her true Volana powers. Her entire village and then swere following closely after her, each of them a different color and glorious.
Their eyes shone with multiple colors and radiated with power.
My mother lifted her head in response and howled loudly for all to hear. Following closely after my mother’s howl, the rest of them howled in response.
Tears welled in my eyes at the sight of the amazing Volana wolves finally united with their powers and coming together.
This was it.
The rise of the Volanas.
I was overwhelmed with emotions.
Colton glanced down atwith a glowing smile on his face and | couldn’t help but return it.
It seemed all the rogues and the remaining witches around us were staring at the Volanas as well, but they didn’t look as happy. In fact, they looked terrified. I'm sure they weren't expecting this type of outcome.
My mother ran to catch up with the pack of Volanas. Colton looked around for a moment as if he was intently thinking about something. Then, he looked back at me, and his smile widened as he nodded with his head toward the Volanas.
My heart swelled.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe wantedto join them.
| threw my arms around him and held him close to me, taking in his incredible scent and basking in his warmth.
It felt like it’s been so long since | was able to hold him in my arms and be close to him.
He was alive.
He buried his face in the nape of my neck, taking in my scent as well and | felt his entire body relaxing against mine. | didn’t want to let him go; not ever. | cclose to losing him and the thought of parting from him terrified me.
But | knew we had to finish this battle, or we would never truly be free.
He reluctantly released me, leavingfeeling cold and vulnerable. | took a deep breath to steady my rapidly beating heart before he gavean encouraging nod.
| turned in the direction of the flood of Volanas and | ran in their direction. As | jumped in the air, Val took over and we shifted into our wolf form in mid-air. We ran with so much speed, that everything aroundwas a blur.
By the t| caught up with the others, they were near the center of the forest where the rogues were shivering in their skin.
My heart swelled, knowing that after today, everything was about to change for the better. We weren't hiding anymore; now all the Volanas in our area were out in the open and more powerful than ever! Seeing that all the rogues were frozen in place and terrified, | knew we weren't going to have to fight them. If | could avoid hurting anyone else, that would be the goal.
They were powerless against us; most of the witches were already gone and there was no sign of Jazzy. These rogues weren't a match for our true powers.
“Mom,” | said through the mindlink; she glanced at me. “We don’t have to fight them. | doubt they will attempt to fight us back.” “What do you suggest we do?” My mother asked. “I will let Diana know and she will alert the others.” “We spread a message,” | said firmly. “Use your mind manipulation to get them to leave and spread the word that Volana’s are not to be messed with.” “Do you think that'll be enough?” | thought about it for a moment as | glanced around the battleground. There were a lot of injured wolves, and it made my heart hurt knowing they were hurt protecting us.
“It'll be a start,” | finally answered.
She nodded and went toward Diana to tell her the plan. At that moment, the rogues grew bold and decided they were going to try to run from us.
Did they seriously think they'd be able to outrun us? If | wasn’t so annoyed, I'd laugh.
Instead, | ran to catch up with a couple of them and saw that other Volanas were not doing the same. | had to give this my best shot; there was no guarantee that this was going to work, but | had to try.
A nearby rogue turned his head and | swear | saw his eyes widen in utter shock to see that | was practically on top of him.
I lunged in his direction and tackled him to the ground. He struggled againstbut with my abilities and full control of my wolf, | was way too strong for him.
Speaking to him through my mind, | said, “You are going to stop hunting Volanas. You will allow us to live in peace after today. Spread the word to others around our nation. Let this battle be a warning of what will happen if you continue to mess with us.” His pupils grew large as he took in my command. Once they returned to normal, he nodded.
| got off him, allowing him to wiggle free. He was in a daze when he stood to his feet and he looked confused, but he didn’t attack. He just gaveone look, before he turned and ran.
| turned to the other Volanas who were following my lead; they were picking one rogue and using their mind manipulation abilities to end this battle once and for all.
Other rogues and witches managed to escape, so | knew the message wouldn't get across to everyone. But it was a start and | knew the ones we did get to will spread the word about what had happened tonight.
If there is ever going to be a battle again, this time, we will be ready.
We are stronger together and now that all the Volanas have their abilities restored, nothing will ever bring us down again. This was the beginning of a new era, and | couldn't be more excited to be part of it.
As my adrenaline began to settle and most of the rogues were gone | was finally able to take a breath and really think about all that had happened.
My pups.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmEverything happened all at once, | hadn't really had a moment to sit and ponder the fact that | was pregnant with twins. | was still in college and a few years away from graduating.
Fear started to attack my stomach and suddenly the world felt incredibly small.
| looked over at Colton who was speaking with my father and the Betas. | think he was assessing the damage to their warriors and those who helped in the battle. | knew the Volanas could use their abilities to heal those injured. | don’t think we lost anybody, which was a huge relief, but we won't know for sure until the situation is assessed further.
My mother soon joinedand through the eyes of her wolf, | knew just how proud she was. She motioned with her head forto follow her and we went deeper into the forest and away from wandering eyes.
There was a small chest on the other side of a large Oaktree. It must have been placed there for after the battle so we would be able to change into stemporary clothes after we shift.
With one more look at me, my mother shifted back into her human form. She rummaged through the chest until she uncovered a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. She grabbed an extra pair of jeans and a tank top foras | shifted back into my human form as well.
It felt good to be back in my body, as fun as it was to be in my wolf form. Once we were both changed, my mother wrappedin her arms and heldtightly.
“Oh, Ella Bean,” she breathed with tears filling her eyes. “I'm so unbelievably proud of you.” “It's not like | did this on my own,” | said, smiling up at her. “Thank you for being here, Mom.” “Did you really think | wouldn't be?” “Ella!” | heard my father say as he rushed toward me.
He was already shifted into his human form and fully dressed. | released my mother and ran to him as he wrappedin his warm embrace and spunaround, laughing with tears in his eyes.
“You did it! I'm so proud of you,” my father breathed.
“We did it,” | said to him, hugging him even tighter. Once | released him, | peered up at him, not realizing | was crying until his image was distorted. “How is everyone else? Were they badly injured?” “The Volanas are healing them as we speak. Most of the rogues are gone. Sare too injured to move and there are a couple who stayed behind to clean up the aftermath,” my father explained.
| was surprised to hear this. | raised my brows, not expecting that there would be srogues who would willingly stay behind.
Before | could ask him any more questions, | felt a pair of strong and familiar arms wrapped around my waist.
“Colton...” | breathed as he buried his face in the nape of my neck and took in my scent. | closed my eyes, basking in his closeness and loving his every presence.
| turned around to face him, wanting to kiss my mate. | cclose to losing him; | practically did lose him. | was never going to let this man go again.
Just as | neared him with my lips, screaming sounded within the forest and then a growl snapped us back to reality.
