Kelly swallowed past her constricted throat. From the corner of her eye, she could see everyone
sniggering at her. It made her feel even more awkward.

Kelly put down the plate, and sneered as she looked at Melanie from head to toe. “Are you wearing the
gown. Leo gave you?”

them showed no respect and regard for others.
“Do you know how much the gown and jewelry you’re wearing costs? Don’t you feel bad accepting
them?” Kelly raised her voice, accusing Melanie bitterly right in front of everyone.

“The Murrays have invested in this country for years, and have been thriving. You probably don’t lack
money, do you, Ms. Murray?” Melanie bit back.
Kelly couldn’t wrap her mind around Melanie’s remark. “What do you mean by that?”
Melanie sneered. “Or has business in Medonia getting harder? Both you and Mr. Murray are paying so
much attention to my gown and jewelry. These are but worldly possessions. Are the Yorks incapable of
affording them, or are the Murrays the ones who are unable to afford them?”
“Don’t you dare speak so arrogantly!”
Kelly didn’t expect Melanie’s mind to shift so quickly. She had no chance whatsoever to take verbal
advantage of her, and was overcome with frustration.
“Worldly possessions? The necklace and gown you’re wearing cost 7.5 million dollars combined! Am I
the one who’s money–minded, or are you the gold–digger?”
“I think you’re the one who’s money–minded,” Melanie went on calmly. “I don’t lack money, and I have
the ability to create steady flows of income for myself. Why would I bother being a gold–digger?”
Leo heard the commotion and came over with guests whom he was exchanging pleasantries with. He
asked in confusion, “What’s going on?”
“Nothing. Ms. Murray was praising my beautiful gown.” Melanie smiled graciously before everyone.
Kelly was, after all, a well–known socialite in upper class society. She smiled, and hid her anger when
she saw crowds gathering around them. “Exactly!”
“Oh, yes. Mr. York, you mentioned that you were interested in the perfume I concocted, right?” Melanie
said, deliberately bringing that up in front of everyone.

Leo’s eyes darted around, guessing Melanie’s intent. He went with the flow, and said, “That’s right, two
perfumes are to be submitted for this year’s competition for which the theme is ‘Unraveling Enigmas, I
want to be the first to secure the spot of your perfume’s sponsor in advance.”
“But the results of the competition aren’t out yet. Isn’t it too risky to make an investment decision right

Leo deliberately raised his voice.

sponsoring Siberian Butterflies! Everyone has been praising President Morgan for having good
judgment.” “Indeed. I heard my dad say that Siberian Butterflies has raked in profits over 15 million
dollars before hitting the one–month mark of its launch. President Morgan really has a good eye for
this.”
Just then, Isla walked through the crowd and stopped next to Melanie, looking as though she was
supporting her while looking for Jeffrey who stood out in the crowd.
