\Chapter 570

“Wow!”

A collective gasp filled the room as all eyes fell on Beverly, who timidly scurried behind

Evadne for cover. The transformation was nothing short of miraculous.

Clothes truly do make the person!

When she first arrived, Beverly was clad in a simple, inexpensive dress. Although her

natural beauty was undeniable, her meek demeanor and slouched posture betrayed an

ingrained sense of inferiority that was heart–wrenching to witness.

But now, after Evadne’s magical touch, Beverly appeared entirely reborn! To the

uninformed, she could easily pass for aristocracy! “Gosh, she’s stunning!”

Nydia clapped her hands in glee, her grin so wide it almost split her face. “Beverly was

already a looker, but with that dress on, she’s positively radiant! I’m dying of envy!”

“That dress does have a certain something,” Chasel admitted, his praise rare and

valuable.

“Ha! I should hope so–it’s my own handiwork. Unique in the whole world. If anyone dares

say it isn’t gorgeous, I’d like to hear them try,” boasted Camille, tilting her chin proudly,

her long legs crossed. Her gaze towards Beverly was as satisfied as if her creation had just

graced the runway at an international fashion show.

“I thought it looked like your work, Camille! It’s so you!” Nydia looked at Camille with pure

adoration. “When it comes to top–notch designers around here, it’s either Haron or you.

Ah, if only I could meet Haron in person one day. She’s like the shining star of the design

world! I need her autograph and a photo with her!”

Camille sipped her tea and cast a playful glance at Evadne, letting out a soft chuckle.

Chasel’s eyes widened in surprise. He had heard of the famed designer Camille while

abroad but had never expected the girl beside him to be the one, and she did so bad in

BBQ.

The friends of Evadne truly were exceptional.

“Ms. Camille,” Chasel called out.

“What can I do for you, Dr. Bright?” Camille responded, her demeanor warm and polite.

She had long heard of Chasel’s reputation from her mentor.

“Ahem, might I commission you to design a suit?” Chasel’s gaze drifted casually towards

Cassius. “A men’s suit, to be precise.” “My schedule is booked solid for the next six

months.”

“Ah.” Chasel’s face fell, hope dissipated.

“However,” Camille continued, leaning back with a teasing smile, “since you are a good

friend of my mentor, I’ll certainly make an exception. But to ensure the best fit for a suit,

I’ll need to take your measurements personally. If you could stop by my studio, that would

be ideal. If not, send me your measurements–the more detailed, the better.”

Chasel’s gaze returned from the towering man, a smile playing on his lips. “I’ll make it a

priority. Thank you.”

“Thaddeus? Gordon? When did you guys get back?”

Despite the noise of the gathering, Evadne spotted the two shocked men at the doorway

immediately. Her eyes lit up with joy, and, taking Beverly by the hand, she walked over to

them.

Gordon stared at Beverly, his limbs stiffened, and his heart thumping wildly in his chest,

overwhelmed with emotion. Beverly pressed her pale lips together, her cheeks flaming.

Gordon’s gaze was too intense, too flustering.

“Gordon, aren’t you going to say hello to Beverly? Or are you too stunned by her

makeover?” Evadne teased, nudging Beverly towards him.

She used a little more force than necessary, and Beverly, soft and fragrant, stumbled into

Gordon’s arms. He quickly steadied her, and her slender hands pressed against his racing

heartbeat.

“Sorry.” Beverly’s cheeks turned as red as ripe tomatoes.

“Ms. Higgins,” Gordon breathed deeply, his voice so low that only they could hear, “you

look absolutely beautiful today.”

Heat rolled across Beverly’s cheeks, her heart fluttering chaotically as she hastily stood up

and stepped away from his embrace Thaddeus fought to contain his surging emotions, his

eyes reddening as he pulled Evadne into a tight hug. “Evadne, you’ve

outdone yourself”

Evadne leaned into his embrace with a soft laugh, the picture of contentment. “It’s no

trouble at all. Just a normal dinner with friends. Oh, by the way, Marilla caught a cold from

sleeping with the windows open, so Jareth stayed home to look after her. They won’t be

coming tonight. Jareth asked me to tell you to eat up tonight–make up for his missed

portion.”

“Will do.” Thaddeus lowered his gaze to her face, his heart contracting, his eyes misting

over.

“Mrs. Abernathy, thank you.”

Gordon, now in the presence of his beloved, was too moved to articulate his gratitude,

managing only a deep bow to Evadne.

“No need for thanks. Beverly’s a friend and a lifesaver. I’ve been wanting to invite her for

dinner but hadn’t found the right moment. Tonight’s gathering was the perfect opportunity

to fulfill my little wish,” Evadne explained, her eyes warm as they rested on Beverly.

“Ms. Evadne, I’m the one who should be thanking you. To be invited to your home is an

honor I never expected!” Beverly stammered, her face glowing with excitement.

She could hardly believe she was attending a dinner hosted by the Ashbourne heiress,

wearing such a beautiful dress, and meeting so many distinguished guests. It all felt like a

dream!

“Thaddeus!” Nydia greeted Thaddeus with joy.

“Mr. Thaddeus, you’re late. Surely that calls for a penalty of three rounds of wine at the

table, doesn’t it?” Camille, who had been out of touch for a while, teased with a languid

drawl after sipping her tea.

Though Thaddeus had weathered many storms and long since won back her mentor’s

heart, seizing the moment, she couldn’t resist the urge to playfully rib him a little.

Thaddeus replied with a simple, “Okay.”

“Just three rounds? Thaddeus, don’t be stingy now. Let’s have a go–round for everyone,”

Chasel chimed in, eager to get Thaddeus in the mix and crank up the fun.

Evadne’s delicate brows furrowed in objection, but before she could retort, Thaddeus

boomed heartily, “Alright, I’m in for the long haul. No backing out until we’re all sloshed!”

Amidst the laughter, Elvis appeared disheveled, descending the stairs with a grumble,

“Hey! Is that darn grill toxic or something? Why won’t it light up?”

“Elvis, did you go mining? You look like you’ve been through the wringer. Don’t scare the

ladies,” Arnold quipped, unable to resist poking fun.

“You think you can do better? Quit your yapping and give it a shot!” Elvis replied, swiping

at his face only to add another streak of

soot.

Cassius, ever so calm, suggested, “Arnold, Jason, why don’t you two give it a go. I bet you

could get that fire started.”

Arnold and Jason exchanged a glance, speechless.

“Cassius, let me handle this. I’m more familiar with our home equipment,” said Thaddeus,

rolling up the sleeves of his crisp white shirt and heading upstairs without another word.

Passing by Elvis, he clapped him on the shoulder, “Tough break, Elvis.”

For a moment, Elvis stood there, stunned.

Had Evadne tamed this lad? He was almost too good to be true!

Soon enough, the backyard barbecue was roaring to life, and Evadne, along with everyone

else, moved the drinks and food outside. They ate heartily, drank merrily, a camaraderie

that felt like something out of a fairy tale.

But Evadne soon noticed Thaddeus was missing.

She slipped away from the festivities to find Alva in the hallway.

“Alva, have you seen Thaddeus?”

“He’s gone to his room. I knocked for ages, but he wouldn’t open up,” Alva reported with a

headshake. “With all the guests here tonight, you’d think he’d be out enjoying the fun, but

no, he’s locked away, playing the brooding young man. That’s so old–fashioned. He’s

really out of touch.”

Worried, Evadne frowned but smiled, “Alva, keep an eye on the party. I’ll check on

Thaddeus.”

Standing before Thaddeus‘ door, Evadne hesitated, then knocked, “Thaddeus? Are you

okay?”

Chapter 570

Silence answered her.

“Don’t be upset. Come out and have some barbecue. Everyone’s waiting for you.”

Thaddeus remained silent.

Tunderstand how you feel and how you miss your mom. But you’re not alone, you know.

You’ve got me, your grandpa, Alva. We’re all here for you. Family, friends, lovers, what

others have, you’ll have too.”

Before she could finish, the door swung open.

Evadne was suddenly pulled into the darkness, and the door closed silently behind them.

In the dim room, Thaddeus pinned her against the door, their breath intertwining, their

skin heating up.

“Evadne.” he whispered, his voice hoarse with an alluring danger.

As Evadne caught her breath, her chest pressed tightly against his solid frame, making her

blush.

No one knew their bodies better than they did each other, but this intimate closeness still

made her heart race, her body tremble under his.

“You meant that? No tricks?” His eyes sparkled in the dim light like countless stars.

“Huh?” Evadne met his intense gaze and was momentarily spellbound.

“What others have, I’ll have too.”

Her lips parted in a smile, her fingers tracing his chiseled jaw, “Of course, when have I

ever lied to you?”

Thaddeus swallowed hard, his thirst evident, “I want some food.”

“Let’s go then, it’s all ready.”

“No, I want my special serving, an extra course.”

With that, Thaddeus pressed down harder, pinning her wrists above her head.

Evadne’s eyes sparkled with realization. She was too naive!

The only food this man ever craved was her.

But she had no time to think. The next second, Thaddeus‘ hot lips claimed hers, his breath

rough and urgent, as if he intended to devour her soul with every fierce, passionate kiss.
