Thaddeus felt as if his chest was filled with sharp stones, his hands clenched tightly on his own shirt.

He thought, “No, this wasn’t right. Evadne. I am not a man of whims, and my affection for you is not

some fleeting fancy. Does belated love not count as love? Thirteen years ago, we faced life and death

together. Thirteen years later, we faced it together again. We seem to be entwined in a bond that’s hard

to break.”

For the first time in his life, Thaddeus understood the meaning of a love that’s hard to express. For the

first time, he felt the suffocating feeling of having so much to say, yet unable to utter a word.

But in the end, he remained silent. It wasn’t the time to speak.

He needed to act.

Although Evadne’s fever had subsided, her body had not fully recovered. She had been too tired to

guard against the bad guy and fell asleep soon after her head hit the pillow.

But Thaddeus kept his eyes wide open, staring at her intently as if guarding her, without any hint of

sleepiness.

Only when he was sure Evadne was really asleep did he manage to bear the pain and slowly got up

from the bed, tiptoeing to the sofa.

Originally, he wanted to quietly admire Evadne’s peaceful and adorable sleeping face, but he couldn’t

bear to see her sleep in such a position, so he gently picked up her weak and soft body.

His long lashes lowered, and his palm became slightly sweaty as he held her. His jawline, sharp as a

blade, couldn’t help but nuzzle against her soft hair.

“Hmm.” Evadne moaned in her sleep, like a sleeping baby in his arms, making a soft cooing sound.

The man’s gaze deepened, his throat felt dry and itchy. He wanted to kiss her, his thin lips hovering just

above hers, but he held back.

He had thought that he had married a naive innocent girl.

But now he realized, she was a little demon who had hooked his soul.

The next day, Evadne woke up from her sleep and stretched contentedly in bed.

She had slept surprisingly well this night.

Wait a minute.

Evadne quickly sat up, looking around anxiously. She found herself sleeping in a bed!

What happened? Did she sleepwalk?

Evadne quickly lifted the blanket, saw her clothes were intact, and remembered that this was a narrow

single bed. Thaddeus, with his dominating physique, should not be able to squeeze in… and if he did,

she would have definitely felt it…

At this moment, Thaddeus was not in the ward!

Evadne punched–the bed angrily, cursing under her breath.

Did he run around with such severe injuries? Was he trying to get himself killed?

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and Jason’s voice came through.

“Miss Evadne? Are you awake?”

“Come in.” Evadne, worried that Jason might get the wrong idea, quickly got out of bed and sat down

on the sofa.

Jason entered, pushing the door open with his back. In his hands were two giant high–end, black

lacquer food boxes.

“President Ashbourne and Mr. Bennett are on their way from Skyrim to Elmsworth. They’re coming to

pick you up. After they pick you up, they’ll have lunch, and then Mr. Bennett will return to Azeroth City.”

Evadne rubbed her somewhat sore temples and sighed.

She had still caused concern to her brothers.

“What’s in your hands?”

“It’s the breakfast that Thaddeus asked his secretary to prepare for you.” Jason placed the two large

food boxes on the coffee table, looking unhappy.

Outside the door, Gordon sneezed. Who the hell was cursing him?

Evadne frowned, “Where is Thaddeus?”

“He went for a medical check–up.”

She opened the food box, her eyes widened in surprise.

Inside were all kinds of exquisite Skyrim–style breakfast, beautifully arranged with wonderful colors and

fragrances.

And surprisingly, every dish was something she often ate at home, everything she liked!

Her stomach grumbled.

“I heard that Thaddeus sent someone to buy it from Skyrim at five in the morning. There’s a thermal

layer in this food box, so the food is still warm.” Jason took out the dishes one by one, his tone as flat

as a robot.

He knew that Thaddeus was beginning to pursue Evadne.

Although he had once loved Evadne and did not hinder her from dating, he was afraid that the person

would be Thaddeus!

“He’s crazy, right? Who asked him to do all this for me!”

She spoke harshly, but she couldn’t help but pick up a crystal shrimp and stuffed it in her mouth,

chewing heartily.

Jason watched, only able to smile bitterly.

“Miss Evadne, is it good?”

A deep charming voice suddenly came, causing Evadne to be startled. The shrimp stuck in her throat,

almost choking her!

Evadne held her chest, coughing violently, her face turning red.

‘Miss Evadne! Are you alright?” Jason was startled and quickly patted her back.

Seeing another man’s hand patting Evadne’s back, Thaddeus felt as if a fire had been lit in his heart,

as if a fan was fanning his heart!

Even though he knew Evadne and Jason were just friends, he still felt as if his chest was filled with

sour lemons!

Thaddeus’s face darkened, and he was about to walk over to Evadne.

Unexpectedly, Evadne got up first and walked over to him angrily.

“What happened last night? Why was I on the bed?” She demanded angrily.

“I carried you there. Sleeping on the sofa all night is uncomfortable.”

Thaddeus was very close to her, his gentle words carried a hint of warmth, creating an indescribable

intimacy.

“Who asked you to do unnecessary things!” Evadne stared back at his indulgent gaze, clenching her

fists. “Anything I do for you is never unnecessary.” Thaddeus looked sincere, not frivolous at all.

Especially with those captivating eyes, not many women could resist his charm.

“Huh, Thaddeus, you can touch the heavens and the earth, but you can’t touch me. Just give it up.”

Evadne scoffed, giving him a once–over. Seeing him dressed in a dark blue custom–made suit,

wearing the tie and brooch she had given him, she felt her pupils shrink slightly.

“Are you getting discharged?”

“Yes.” He answered straightforwardly.

“No, you don’t meet the discharge criteria.”

“Will you stay with me until I meet the discharge criteria and can leave?” Thaddeus asked with a sly

grin, his thin lips curving upwards as he looked at Evadne’s handsome face.

“What are you babbling about!” Evadne’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief.

Had she been too nice to this jerk?

“So, I don’t want to be trapped here, and I don’t want to be without you.” Thaddeus’s gaze was defiant,

like a rebellious child.

Yet it was filled with deep affection.

Evadne had never seen Thaddeus show such an innocent side before, and for a moment she was

taken aback, forgetting to continue scolding him. “Evadne!”

From outside the door, Cassius and Bennett appeared, resplendent in their military uniforms.

“Cassius! Bennett!” Evadne ignored Thaddeus and ran towards her brothers.

Thaddeus frowned, and he instinctively puffed up his chest, his eyes burning with competitive spirit.

Even if these two men were Evadne’s brothers, he would not lose to them.

Unfortunately for him, every man in Evadne’s life was exceptional. Now, a colonel brother has

appeared, leaving him with no room for survival.

“Evadne, are you alright?” Bennett held Evadne’s shoulders, checking her over and over again:

“I’m fine. Let’s go, Bennett.”

Evadne didn’t dare to let Bennett linger in front of Thaddeus, fearing a spark might ignite a fire. She

was about to pull him away when Bennett suddenly spoke, “Cassius, Jason, you guys take Evadne

away first. I’ll be there in a bit.”

“Bennett!” Evadne’s voice was filled with complex emotions.

“Evadne, let’s go.”

Cassius put his arm around Evadne’s shoulder, giving Thaddeus a look with implication, and whispered

into her ear, “Your brother Bennett is the most stable and gentle person. You know he can handle

himself.”

Evadne sighed, considering that nothing would probably happen in the hospital, she decided to leave

with Cassius.

Thaddeus’s eyes followed her until the door closed and she was out of sight.

Suddenly, he remembered that she hadn’t eaten breakfast, and he hurried over to the table to pick up

the food box. However, before he could, a strong hand pressed down on the box.

Thaddeus looked up to see Bennett’s icy gaze.

The atmosphere was tense, as if the oxygen in the room had turned into hydrogen, ready to explode at

any moment!

“She hasn’t had breakfast. I’m going to take this to her.” Thaddeus’s voice was cold.

“I’d rather she starve than eat anything from a scumbag like you,” Bennett retorted with a sneer. “You

mistreated Evadne so much and now you want to play the victim, hoping to win her over with a few

sweet words and drag her back into the maw of the Abernathy family. Thaddeus, do you think my sister

is a pet that you can win over with a few treats? You’re overestimating yourself.”

“In the past, everything was my fault. In the future, I will do my best to treat Evadne well.” Thaddeus’s

eyes were firm as he reached out to get the box.

He remembered that Evadne had a sensitive stomach.

That time at the charity auction when she was alone outside, suffering from stomach cramps and lying

on the couch. Even now, it still made his heart ache.

“Humph, I’d sooner believe in ghosts than trust a word from your lying mouth, Thaddeus!”

Then Bennett threw the food box onto the floor, scattering the delicate pastries and dishes all over the

place.

Thaddeus’s heart seemed to shatter along with the broken dishes.

“Stay away from my sister. This is the last warning!” Bennett pointed at Thaddeus’s pale face, his eyes

colder than ever. “Or else, your fate will be just like this mess on the floor!”

“I won’t give up.”

Thaddeus closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and when he opened them again, his red eyes were as

sharp as a knife. “I’ve set my heart on Evadne. I like her, and I want to be with her. Even if I’m scorned

by thousands, even if all of you from the Ashbourne family try to stop me, you can’t stop my

determination to be with her.”

Bennett was clearly infuriated by Thaddeus’s words, his teeth grinding with anger. But then he laughed,

his voice filled with contempt. “You think it’s us, the Ashbourne family, who are stopping you? We did

try to keep Evadne away from you, but she married you anyway, didn’t she? I’m telling you, even if we

did nothing, Evadne wouldn’t go back to you. Because you’ve drained all her love for you, there’s no

place for you in her heart anymore! Don’t think that just because she took care of you last night, she

still has feelings for you. Evadne inherited our father’s traits, strong and loyal. If anyone saved her life,

she wouldn’t ignore them. Stop flattering yourself.”

Thaddeus’s heart clenched, his hands tightening into fists.

His feelings for Evadne were unwavering, no matter what anyone else said.

After these days of confrontation, entanglement, and struggle, he had only just realized how deeply he

loved Evadne, and he regretted waking up to it so late.

He was afraid, afraid that just like Bennett had said, there was no place for him in Evadne’s heart

anymore.

Bennett ignored him and strode out of the room.

Suddenly, he stopped and sneered, “I heard from Evadne that you were also a soldier. You’re a

disgrace to the army!“.
