Chapter 265
At Thaddeus’s insistence, Jareth and Gordon transferred him to another hospital.
In the hospital room, Thaddeus lay flat on the snow–white bed, hooked to an IV drip.
Overnight, he had become dramatically haggard, but that handsome face that could turn heads was
still stunning enough to make Jareth grit his teeth.
“You always cause trouble with women. I bet even when you’re dead you’ll be giving female ghosts a
hard time. You’re quite the sinner.”
Jareth sat back in his chair, his arms crossed behind his head, looking at Thaddeus with an amused
expression.
“You must have been drinking too much whiskey, to be talking so cold.”
Thaddeus slowly opened his eyes, his dark pupils filled with annoyance as he glared at Jareth, gasping
in pain. “I’ve coughed up a pint of blood, and you’re discussing my looks? I’ve always been better
looking than you, do you have a problem with that?”
“Hey now, I’m just trying to lighten your mood since you’re stuck in bed. Isn’t it better than dwelling on
the heavy stuff?”
Jareth wasn’t unconcerned about his health. He just didn’t want to bring up the heavy topics and felt
that two men lamenting was quite cringe–worthy. “Don’t worry, you’re not going to die. I’ve already
arranged for the top internal medicine specialist in the country to treat you. I’ve even got you the best
lung treatment machine, which costs a hundred grand each time it’s turned on. If that doesn’t work, I’ll
look for doctors abroad. I’ve got the money, and they say money can make the devil work, so what’s
stopping me from buying you back from the Grim Reaper?”
Thaddeus frowned, finding him noisy.
“Even if you’re completely paralyzed and only your eyes can move, I’ll always keep you by my side.
You can be my accessory! In short, even without a wife, you still have a devoted friend. I won’t
abandon you!” Jareth declared boldly, patting his chest.
No wife?
Accessory?
Paralyzed?
Thaddeus’s lips twitched, feeling like Jareth was subtly mocking, cursing and jinxing him
“If you’d just shut up, we could still be friends.”
Jareth’s face held an awkward smile, his mood a bit heavy, but he still tried to cheer Thaddeus up.
“Thad, hang in there. If anything happens to you, who else can I rely on? Your family of monsters and
demons will surely consume everything you’ve worked for, seeing me as a juicy piece of meat!”
Thaddeus felt a slight tightness in his chest.
He recalled the moment when he coughed up blood, It felt as if all hope had vanished.-
In his mind, only two faces appeared: his grandfather and Evadne.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThaddeus took a deep breath, steadying his chaotic thoughts and softly said, “If anything happens to
me, the position of CEO will ultimately fall to my brother. I was just taking his place because he was
unwell. If not for that, I wouldn’t be the heir to the Abernathy Group.”
“You’re talking nonsense! What age is it, the throne still passes to the eldest son? Even if your brother
was strong and healthy, with your talent and ability, your grandfather would still choose you as the heir!”
Jareth, who often watched drama series with his mother, retorted.
Thaddeus faintly smiled, feeling lucky to have such an optimistic brother in his otherwise dull life.
“Thad, why did you insist on moving hospitals? You were injured because of Evadne!”
Jareth moved closer to the bed without getting up from his chair, “This is a perfect opportunity to be
together! If I were you, not only would I not move hospitals, but I would also run to Evadne’s hospital
room door and make a scene, better if I could cough up a pool of blood in front of her! Otherwise, how
would she know how much you’ve sacrificed for her? Women only love bad boys, and they only feel
pity for those who suffer!”
“Protecting her is what I should do. I’ve never thought about seeking credit for it.”
Thaddeus slowly closed his eyes, feeling a dull pain in his heart. I owe her, I’m just trying to make up
for the mistakes I’ve made in the past three years.” “With your life?”
“Or should I pay with money? You know the financial status of the Ashbourne family, don’t you?”
Thaddeus raised an eyebrow.
Jareth scratched his head. He thought, “That’s true, money could buy my life.”
Thaddeus thought of Evadne, her pale face in his arms, and an uncontrollable pain surged in his heart.
Was she awake? Did her fever go down? Did she fracture any bones from hanging on the cliff for so
long?
His mind and eyes were full of her.
Thaddeus took a deep breath, his fingers tightly clutching the bedsheet, as if suppressing some
impulse that wanted to burst out from his chest.
Had he fallen for her?
Really, had he fallen for her?
Thaddeus swallowed hard, his heartbeat quickening, his breath steady, his pale, handsome face
flushed.
“Huh? Thad, why are you blushing? Do you have a fever?”
Jareth hurriedly reached out to touch his forehead, but Thaddeus swatted his hand away with a
smack..
“Ouch! That really hurt!”
Jareth quickly shook his hand, grinning, “You’re quite strong. It seems you’re doing well and your
martial arts skills haven’t deteriorated.”
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
Before they could respond, the door was pushed open forcefully.
Gordon rushed in, quickly bowing, his mouth half–open.
Behind him, a cold, pleasing voice with a sharp edge pierced the room.
Thaddeus, you’re seriously injured but you don’t stay in the hospital, Instead, you secretly moved
without telling me. What kind of trick are you playing?
As the voice fell, Evadne marched into the room with Jason’s assistance, a sight to behold.
She had taken a bath and changed into a light blue dress, wearing a stylish white cashmere coat over
it. Her complexion was smooth and glowing, like a stream flowing into his heart. Evadne lifted her
delicate chin, showing no signs of illness, the sound of her sharp heels like her symbol.
Evadne shone from head to toe, looking at Thaddeus with cold eyes.
As if their intimate moments last night, the thrilling events, the close cuddling, and kisses, had all
vanished.
Thaddeus tightened his dry lips, his handsome brow furrowed, feeling unhappy.
“Are you mute now? I’m asking you a question.”
Evadne, though with a poker face, was surreptitiously studying his haggard appearance, which only
served to fan the flames of her irritation. Her voice carried a sharp edge, “You’re hiding your injury and
avoiding me. What are you trying to do? Grab my attention?”
Jareth was somewhat taken aback by the overpowering aura emanating from this petite woman. She
carried herself like a headstrong CEO!
The sight of their dear Thad, leaning weakly against the headboard with a pair of doe eyes filled with a
sense of melancholy, was reminiscent of a neglected housewife.
Once this interpretation was accepted,
The previously oppressive atmosphere became amusing.
Jareth couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.
Evadne shot him a fierce glare, and Jareth immediately shrank back, just like a dashing male
concubine under the rule of a queen.
Gordon hurriedly stepped forward, “Mrs. Abernathy.”
“Who’s your Mrs. Abernathy?” Evadne’s eyebrows knitted together.
“Ms. Evadne! We transferred Mr. Thaddeus to another hospital because we were afraid that the news
of his injury would worry you and affect your recovery!” Gordon muttered nervously. Mrs. Abernathy
was no longer the gentle and submissive woman from the Abernathy family. She had become
domineering and prickly, causing his heart to pound every time he faced her. “Huh, Mr. Thaddeus sure
thinks a lot. Who said I would be worried about him?” Evadne raised her eyebrows, scoffing.
“Well, if you weren’t worried about our Mr. Thaddeus, you wouldn’t have come looking for him so soon.”
Gordon lifted his eyelids and gathered the courage to retort. “You!” Evadne glared at him.
Thaddeus, leaning against the headboard, fluttered his long eyelashes, subtly smiling at the corner of
his mouth.
Gordon, usually slow–witted and sometimes incompetent, had just spoken his heart.

“All of you get out,” Evadne ordered coldly.
“Miss Evadne.”
Jason looked worried but was interrupted before he could finish, Jason, you too.”
Evadne had spoken, and who dared to disobey? The three men lined up and filed out of the ward in a
subdued manner.
With the door shut, Evadne walked up to Thaddeus, her brows still furrowed. Her eyes were filled with
a mixture of anger and concern.
“I’ve looked at your medical records. You sustained a severe blunt force trauma. If your treatment had
been delayed a little longer, your organs would have hemorrhaged and put your life at risk.”
“But it wasn’t delayed, and I didn’t die.”
Thaddeus’voice was calm, carrying a hint of a sexy nasal tone. His gaze on her was tender and
profound, “Evadne, don’t forget that I’m a veteran. I’ve endured all kinds of hardships and injuries, this
is nothing.”
Evadne was scorched by his intense gaze, and images of them fighting side by side on the battlefield in
Zenithia, depending on each other for survival, flashed in her mind.
-Even though she seemed unruffled on the surface, the thought of those passionate days amidst the
gunfire and bullets always stirred up her emotions, causing her palms to sweat and
her breathing to quicken..
“I appreciate you saving me, but I don’t need you to go this far. If you were injured, you could have told
me. I could have found a way to heal you. Hiding from me like this, what’s the point?” Evadne stared at
him, her voice slightly trembling.
“Gordon has already explained the reason.” Thaddeus replied nonchalantly, not considering it a big
deal.
“Your back, is it? Take off your shirt and turn around.”
Evadne ignored his intriguing words and maintained her firm stance, “Hurry up, are you a shy
schoolboy? Do you think I’m going to take advantage of you?”
Thaddeus let out a wry smile, “Well, not exactly. If you wanted to take advantage, you would have done
it three years ago.
“Humph, I did want to back then, but did you give me a chance? You guarded against me as if I were a
thief.”
After saying that, Evadne realized she had dug herself into a hole. Her cheeks flushed a faint pink.
Thaddeus paused, a bitter feeling of guilt flooding his heart. The atmosphere turned awkward once
again.
He undid the buttons of his hospital gown one by one, revealing a muscular body teeming with
charisma. His well–defined muscles were a sight to behold, but the scars marring his skin were
particularly noticeable.
Evadne had seen Thaddeus‘ body before, but she was still amazed at his impeccable physique.
She swallowed hard, her voice cold as she ordered, “Lle down.”
