Chapter 254
Evadne vanished into the washroom to rid herself of the stickiness of the day, then traded her skirt for a
fresh one. Eager to clear her mind and sober up, she took a stroll around the house.
She felt an uncomfortable twinge in her heart as she remembered Jason kneeling before her, wiping up
the spilled wine from her feet in front of a crowd of people.
He had always been incredibly considerate towards her.
But after that profound and Intense embrace, she found herself unable to face Jason and his affections
for her.
Her relationship with Jason had been a childhood friendship. They had grown up together.
She saw him as a brother and a subordinate. But did he see her as a childhood sweetheart, as his
desired love?
It was too much for her to accept.
With a sigh of frustration, Evadne lifted her gaze, only to find Jason standing stiffly not far away, his
face somewhat pale. “Miss Evadne,” he called gently.
“Jason? What brings you here?” Evadne asked, taken aback.
Jason swallowed hard, his throat dry, and slowly approached her. “I was worried. I came to check on
you.”
“Jason.”
“It’s been a week. Why won’t you let me return to work, to be with you?” Jason gazed at her deeply, his
voice hoarse.
“Because I’m waiting for you to clear your mind.”
Evadne spun lightly on her tiptoes, leaning against the wall and meeting his tender and shattered gaze.
“Jason, a week has passed. Have you made your decision?” “Miss Evadne. I have a crush on you.”
Jason’s voice trembled as he confessed his feelings. “You can hate me, despise me, but you can’t stop
me from admiring you. I’ve never dared to dream that you would accept me. But Miss Evadne, I don’t
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtthink I did anything wrong. Is it wrong to like someone?”
Evadne’s eyes narrowed sharply.
“But, my feelings for you stop at liking. I know that to continue would be presumptuous, would be
impolite.” Jason forced a smile as bright as eyer.
“Jason, you didn’t do anything wrong. I just can’t accept your feelings.”
Evadne pulled a bitter smile.
If loving someone and not being accepted was wrong, then she must have been a sinner for loving
Thaddeus and being cruelly discarded.
“The flame of love in my heart has been extinguished, Jason. I have no confidence to love again, and
I’ve lost all interest in the concept of love. So, Jason, unrequited love will eventually die. You should
find someone who can reciprocate your feelings.”
She was a woman known for breaking men’s hearts.
But at this moment, she was especially gentle towards Jason, who loved her with all his heart.
“Miss Evadne, you will find someone who truly loves you too.” Jason’s voice caught in his throat, his
eyes turning red.
“Hah, the wise do not fall in love. I won’t repeat the same mistake.”
Evadne waved her hand nonchalantly, ‘ve been through the trials of love and tasted its bitterness. From
now on, I just want to focus on making money. Long live the single life!” “So can I continue to work with
you?”
Jason blinked his clear eyes plaintively, “This week has been so dull,I feel like I’m growing
mushrooms.”
“Of course, my knight. Please continue to serve your queen.”
Evadne, feeling playful, extended her delicate hand towards him in a royal manner.
Jason’s eyes sparkled with joy, his lips curving into a beautiful smile.
This time, he did not kneel. Instead, he bowed respectfully, took her petite hand, and gently kissed the
back of it.
“I am willing to serve only you in this life, my queen.”
Their eyes met, and they both smiled, saying more than words ever could.
At that moment, in a dark corner,
Nydia, who had accidentally witnessed this scene, stood in shock. Her heart felt like it had been
stabbed with a dull knife, constantly stirring up pain.
She had thought that she had accepted the fact that Jason loved her sister from the bottom of his
heart.
But tonight, the scenes she saw overwhelmed her, causing her soul to suffer great damage and her
tears to flow uncontrollably.
Nydia covered her trembling lips with her hands, not wanting to disturb them, and retreated back into
the darkness.
The more she loved him, the more painful it was to see him loving someone else.
The cruelest thing in the world was to make sacrifices for others.
“By the way, what on earth happened to you tonight?”
Evadne wrinkled her brows, slapping Jason’s forehead lightly. “We’re not playing cops and robbers.
Why did you suddenly switch sides and play the police? Cedric is your brother, and your parents were
present, you can’t just take my side without considering the consequences. You need to have your own
stance. Otherwise, how will you face your family in the future?” Jason looked at her resolutely, “Miss
Evadne, your stance is my stance.”
“Ah, you’re worthy of being my sworn brother, knowing how to care for your little sister.” Evadne
crossed her arms and teased him with squinted eyes.
“Miss Evadne! I dare not accept that!”
Jason remembered Chairman Emeric recognizing him as a son in front of both families, and he
hurriedly waved his hands, “That was just Chairman Emeric trying to pressure my brother Cedric, it was
just for show! I would have to have quite a face to actually believe it!”
“You just don’t know Emeric well enough. He’s a man of his word. He doesn’t put on shows. If he says

juniors as pawns. Besides, to deal with your brother Cedric, who only cares about money and is easily
swayed by a bit of meat, Emeric could make him disappear with just a flick of his finger. He just doesn’t
want to cause a rift between the two families.”
Evadne patted his shoulder with a smile, “Alright, don’t feel burdened. Being a godson is nice, better
than being an illegitimate child, right?”
Jason coughed and nearly choked on his saliva.
Nydia stumbled along the corridor towards the other end.
She had had quite a bit to drink tonight, and coupled with her bad mood, the alcohol and tears blurred
her vision and she could hardly see the path ahead.
Her legs felt weak, her head throbbed, and she nearly tripped several times.
Damn the mansion, it was so big that she was lost in her own home!
“Jason.”
Nydia breathed rapidly, whispering Jason’s name.
“Eh-!”
Suddenly, she ran headfirst into a “wall“, causing her nose to sting and her tears to flow.
As she stumbled, her body tilting backwards, a man’s hand came swiftly to her aid. His large palm
fastened around her waist, hoisting her up just in time. Nydia’s vision blurred as she tumbled into his
arms.
‘Be careful, Miss Nydia,” he cautioned.
Even in her intoxicated state, she noticed the resemblance between his blur of a face and Jason’s
features.
Her heart pounded uncontrollably.
“Jason.” she slurred.
“Miss Nydia, you’re mistaken. I’m not Jason, I’m his brother, Cedric,” he corrected her.
Cedric, who bore a slight resemblance to Jason, looked down at her with an amused smirk tugging at
the corners of his lips.

“Whoa, you’re not Jason, let me go.”
