The moment Jacob stepped out of the residential area, reporters swarmed out from the van and from behind the
flower beds to chase him with their cameras.
Evander’s plan had succeeded.
However, Angeline was concerned for Jacob’s safety. She was even more worried about affecting Jacob’s career.
Traces of concern lined her face as she turned to look at Evander. “Are you sure Sylas will pick him up?”
“Of course. Do you not trust my subordinate?” Evander replied with a question. A hint of iciness could be detected
in his tone.
“That’s not what I meant. Who could possibly do something better than you when you’re personally in charge of it?”
The corners of Angeline’s lips curved upward in gratitude. “Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
With that said, she peered out the window and looked down at Jacob. A man in a suit escorted him into a car and
drove him out of the residential area through the back entrance.
“Thank goodness! We’re saved!” exclaimed Angeline. Joy was written all over her face.
Evander, on the other hand stared at her side profile in a daze.
Angeline was wearing a casual outfit at present. Compared to her stunning look in front of the camera, she looked
a lot more approachable at that moment. Her hair was tied into a messy bun, and the light makeup she had put on
accentuated the tenderness of her features.
After a short moment of observing her, Evander shifted his gaze to look away. “Don’t celebrate just yet. More
troubles are waiting.”
“What do you mean?” Angeline turned to look at him, confused.
“Do you really think the reporters wouldn’t come back the moment they realized that they couldn’t get any scoop
from Jacob?” Evander reminded her in a flat tone. “You’re way too naïve!”
Evander’s words were like a punch to Angeline’s gut, causing her to feel tense and anxious again.
Slapping her forehead in exasperation, she had no idea what to do. “In that case, I’ll go pack my stuff and stay in a
hotel for the time being.”
Evander regarded her and shot that idea down ruthlessly. “That’s not going to work. Do you think the reporters are
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtidiots?”
That’s right! All of the high-class hotels will be flooded with reporters by now!
Frustrated and on the brink of losing her mind, Angeline hated Joseline so much that she wished the latter were
dead.
Just then, Evander commanded, “What are you still waiting for? Go pack your things.”
Angeline turned to him with a troubled look on her face. “But I’ve got nowhere to go for the time being.”
Evander kept his gaze on her. “We’re going to my place.” Worried that Angeline might mishear him, he even
intentionally enunciated every single word loudly and clearly.
Taken aback by Evander’s suggestion, Angeline froze and couldn’t find the words to reply.
On the other hand, Floretta jumped out of Evander’s arms in excitement and rushed forward to hug Angeline’s legs.
Her eyes shone in anticipation as she raised her head to look at Angeline. “That’s great, Angel! We can finally be
together every day!”
“That’s not a good idea.” Retaining her rationale, Angeline waved her hands to decline the offer. “Mr. Golding, it’s
not appropriate for me to stay at your place. Your fiancée won’t be happy if she finds out.”
Angeline did not want to elicit any animosity from Olivine when issues regarding the rumor were still not yet
resolved.
In response, Floretta ran toward Evander and tugged the corner of his shirt. Her pleading eyes were filled with
hope.
Evander gazed at his daughter and sighed, explaining resignedly, “There are a lot of guest bedrooms in the Golding
residence. Your presence won’t cause too much of a problem. Since Floretta likes your cooking, take this as an
opportunity to teach Francesca your recipes.”
Angeline was rendered speechless.
Even though Evander’s explanation had left her no room to refuse, she was still a bit hesitant.
“Don’t overthink it, Angel. Come on! I’ll help you pack your things.” Floretta took Angeline’s hand and pulled the
latter toward the bedroom.
After ten minutes, Angeline was dressed and ready to leave. Her luggage was packed as well.
Since Sylas had been tasked to send Jacob to a safe place, Angeline had no choice but to take her car from the
garage and drive the father-daughter pair to their place.
When they arrived at the Golding residence, Angeline took in the familiar garden and the three-story mansion. To
her surprise, she no longer felt uneasy. In fact, her uneasiness had been replaced with a sense of warmth and
familiarity.
Francesca had been waiting for them in the living room. When she heard that Angeline would be staying over, she
was overjoyed and had been smiling from ear to ear.
“This is great, Ms. Sorelle! Ms. Floretta is over the moon about your stay!”
As expected, Floretta was twirling happily around Angeline, dancing in excitement. She had even made plans about
what to do with Angeline during her stay.
Evander was the only one who remained calm and collected. Removing his coat, he glanced at Francesca coldly.
“Show her to the guest room.”
“Yes, Mr. Golding!”
Following his order, Francesca quickly helped Angeline with her luggage and headed upstairs. Her movements were
so swift that Angeline could not help even if she wanted to.
Francesca pushed the door open, revealing a luxurious room. A king-size bed, a gigantic wardrobe, and a built-in
bathroom were only some of its features.
“Ms. Sorelle, I have prepared toiletries in advance. If you need anything else, please feel free to let me know.”
“Thank you. It’s enough for now,” Angeline quickly replied.
She could not help but gasp in awe at the spacious room. It must be nice to be rich. This room itself is bigger than
my living room!
“Oh, one more thing, Ms. Sorelle. Your room is right across from Ms. Floretta’s. I know that the two of you are close.
This will make it easier for you to take care of her.” Francesca smiled politely and respectfully.
“That’s very thoughtful of you.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAs she thanked Francesca, Angeline walked toward the bedside drawer and picked up a framed photograph. In the
photograph was a picture of Floretta when she was a month old. Angeline assumed that Francesca had placed the
picture there so she would feel less alone in the room.
A sense of warmth bubbled up in her chest at that thought. Her slender fingers traced Floretta’s outline in the
picture. When her fingertips reached the baby’s stubby neck in the picture, she noticed a mole.
She froze momentarily, focusing on the mole. Agitated, her grip on the photograph tightened.
Her daughter had a mole at that exact position as well.
Just then, Floretta came out of her room, holding a pink stuffed bunny in her arms.
“Angel.”
She ran forward and threw herself at Angeline with a huge grin. “This is my favorite doll. It can keep you company
here.”
“Thank you, Floretta. You’re too kind.” Angeline bent down and planted a kiss on the girl’s cheek, smiling.
At the same time, she swiftly undid the button of Floretta’s collar without the little girl noticing. As expected, there
was a mole on Floretta’s neck.
At that moment, it felt like she had been struck by lightning, and she froze on the spot.
How can there be such a huge coincidence in this world? The same position… A mole of similar size…
She was lost in her thoughts as she brought Floretta into the latter’s bathroom for a bath. Not paying attention to
her surroundings, she ran into a stone-hard chest.
“Ow! That hurts!”
Instinctively, Angeline touched her nose with a grimace.
Whew. It’s not broken.
“You can still feel pain, huh?”
Evander’s deep voice sounded displeased. In the next second, he grabbed the back of Angeline’s head with his
huge hand and ordered, “Lift your head. Let me see.”
Angeline, who was still in a daze, did as she was told.
“You’re not bleeding.” Evander’s voice snapped her out of her trance. The corner of his lips curled upward into a
smirk as he mocked, “You’re thinking so hard about Jacob that you can’t even pay attention to your surroundings,
huh?”
