If Jared doesn’t have to work late, he’ll usually take a bath at nine in the evening.
He’s a clean freak, his daily baths taking at least half an hour.
Agnes thought this half hour could be her only shot.
Luckily, she knew Jared was a stickler for routine and very punctual.
But Agnes was still a bit worried. After all, it had been four years. Has Jared’s lifestyle changed?

She had been watching the bathroom light in the bedroom.
Sure enough, around nine, the bathroom light turned on.

There was no time for second guessing, she got out of her car.
The door to Maplewood Manor was code–locked.
Now it’s all down to luck.
Agnes typed in the code from four years ago and, to her surprise, the door actually opened.
It seems Jared didn’t change the code after all.
Agnes opened the door.
Next, she needed to create the illusion that Nocturne left on his own.
She checked the time. Nocturne should be awake by now.
She just needed to find Nocturne, quietly take him away.
Then have Nocturne call Jared. That would be a perfect solution.
But the condition was that she absolutely cannot run into Jared, otherwise, her plan would fail.
Agnes knew her move was risky, but she had no other choice.
As long as Nocturne was with Jared, she was anxious and afraid Jared might suspect something.
Agnes went inside the mansion.
Everything in Maplewood Manor was exactly the same as it was four years ago.
Every detail was etched into her memory.
Coming back here, Agnes felt a bit dazed and a pang of heartache.
But right now, she didn’t have time to dwell on it. Time was running out.
Agnes hurried up the stairs.
She thought Nocturne was probably in one of the other bedrooms.

As she opened the door, she found that the lights inside are all off.
Agnes checked anyway, but Nocturne wasn’t there.
Agnes quickly pivoted and saw the lights in the study and Jared’s bedroom were on.
After a moment’s thought, Agnes decided to head to Jared’s bedroom.
She figured the odds of Nocturne being there were higher.
The door to the bedroom was also open.
She tiptoed in.
inside, she felt a bit disoriented. The layout of the room hasn’t changed in four years.
What surprised Agnes was a painting on the wall.
It was a portrait of her and Jared from their trip to Italy, done by a street artist.
Agnes loved it and decided to hang it on the wall.
But she didn’t expect it to still be here after all these years.
Isn’t Jared about to get married? With their portrait still hanging in the bedroom, would his future wife be alright
