Truthfully, they differed from her expectations. She thought they would be older, and that their child liked them
because they were kind. But Bert didn't seem like a very warm person, even appearing cold.
"When did you return?"
The man across from her suddenly spoke. Startled, Evelyn came back to her senses, realizing her lapse, and quickly
averted her gaze, "Three or four days ago."
"Have you seen Lucas before?"
"Yeah."
She dared not say more, fearing any missteps. Her nerves were extremely taut.
Under the table, Huston moved his hand slowly to the side and lightly rested it on her slightly cold hand. His eyes
remained firmly on Bert, "Lucas mentioned that you've been taking care of him recently. I need to thank Mr. Harper
and Miss Graves."
When Alivia heard her name mentioned, she choked on the words 'You're welcome.' But before she could respond,
she heard Bert chuckle softly next to her, "There's no need for formalities, President Lloyd. I'm not taking care of
Lucas out of any obligation. I just don't want him to be alone."
