Maja bowed her head in respect, then stood up and picked up his suit, handing it back to him.

Ian reached out to receive it, his fingertips accidentally brushing against hers – one cold, the other warm.

Suppressing the urge to hold her hand, he lied, “Grandpa mentioned you promised him something.”

He didn’t mention his grandfather’s last words at all, but rather tried to trick Maja.

Did his grandfather say anything to her that day at the cliff?

But in reality, his grandfather said nothing that night. It was all a scheme planned by a man named Patrick.

The scheme included his grandfather, everyone who was on the hike that day, and even Maja herself.

She wondered about Patrick, even his name was fake. Who was he really and why was he targeting the Raymond

family?

Now that Ian was asking her, she remembered her promise to his grandfather to give birth to an heir for the

Raymond family.

This was a commitment.

But it was something she couldn’t bring herself to tell Ian.

She turned around, making to walk towards the base of the mountain.

Ian knew he couldn’t get any more out of her and slowly followed her.

Descending the mountain was faster than climbing it. He found himself thinking about the hike, carrying her on his

back, listening to her childhood stories.

Ian and Maja had been through life and death together, but they lacked the most tender moments. Any

recollections of such times were barren.

He wanted to drive her home, but her bodyguard had already brought the car.

Without even a word of goodbye, she got into the car.

Ian opened and closed his mouth, finally knocking on her car window.

The window rolled down.

“How about dinner tonight?”

Maja glanced at her phone, “I’ve got something on today.”

“What about tomorrow?”

“I have a meeting.”

“All day?”

Smart people would stop asking after hearing about the meeting. It was obviously an excuse.

But Ian insisted on pushing the issue, causing the atmosphere to grow tense.

“Maja, don’t you want to know Patrick’s real identity?”

This caught Maja’s attention. She indeed wanted to know.

No matter how the people at Rosewood Manor investigated, what Patrick represented was too vague.

He had no background. There was only a photograph of him and his name.

“My people and Fitch’s are looking into it. Should be any time now. Do you want me to tell you as soon as I know?”

This was clearly a trap. If she wanted to know, they would have to have dinner together.

Maja frowned, “Let’s talk when you find out.”

He held the car window tightly, pretending not to understand, “But I need to have dinner first, so I have the energy

to investigate.”

What a canny man!

Maja even thought about closing the window, hopefully crushing his fingers.

His fingers seemed casually resting on the window, but he was actually applying a lot of pressure. So much so that

even after Maja pressed the window button, the window didn’t go up.

She finally relented, “Ian, what are you trying to do?”

“I want to drive you home.”
