Chapter 1011

He needed her answer. Everything had been fine when he left, and she had even agreed, so why was it that now

she was silent on the phone?

lan’s face turned cold, a storm brewing in his eyes.

“Maja, if you don’t speak up, I will get angry.”

Maja took a deep breath, trying to respond.

But her throat was so tight, it felt as if a giant hand was strangling her. She was on the verge of suffocating, tears

streaming down her face.

Her body violently shaking, she instinctively hunched over, one hand covering her mouth to muffle her sobs.

She hastily grabbed her coat, wanting to leave, but stumbled on something in her haste.

But she didn’t feel the pain, and it was as if all sensation had been stripped from her body in that moment.

This place made her feel sick.

lan’s voice was still coming through the phone.

“Are you trying to back out again?”

His tone was laced with hurt, and then the line went dead.

When Maja left the room, she realized she was in a hotel, but not one belonging to the Raymond Corporation.

She quickly contacted Zoey, asking her to pick her up.

Then she stood on the side of the road, the sun overhead painfully bright, making her feel dizzy.

Zoey arrived quickly, puzzled to see her.

“Miss Pennyfeather, didn’t you say you wanted to rest for a few days?”

Maja said nothing, climbing into the back seat, her voice hoarse as she said, “Take me to Rosewood Manor.”

Zoey took a glance at her reflection in the rearview mirror. The traces on her body were worse this time. Had she

had another run–in with lan?

But hadn’t lan already left the country?

When the car pulled up to Rosewood Manor, Maja got out without a word, heading straight into the house.

She went to her room and took a long bath, nearly scrubbing off a layer of her skin.

She didn’t dare look at the marks on her body, feeling sick to her stomach but unable to vomit anything up.

The overwhelming feeling of betraying lan was like a drum pounding on her heart, making her body tremble.

In the evening, Maria knocked on the door.

“Miss Pennyfeather, should I bring in dinner?”

Maja’s vision was blurry, the voices around her muffled.

She scrambled to her feet, reaching for the door handle with trembling fingers.

Coco, who had been waiting outside, used this opportunity to slip inside, meowing at her.

Maria saw her pale face and gasped.

“Miss Pennyfeather, you’re as white as a sheet. What’s wrong? Should I call the doctor?”

Maja tried to wave her off, but her vision faded, and she fainted.

Maria was shocked and quickly called for a doctor.

Maja’s last thought before she passed out was that she was doomed.

lan was petty. If he found out about this, he would be livid.

She was also angry at herself. How could she not have been more cautious at the party?

In her dreams, she felt nauseous at the thought of being intimate with a man for two days, wishing she could just

die.

During the three years she was married to lan, she had never been close with other men.

In her view, once she’s married, even if it’s just on paper, she should be faithful. This applied to both men and

women.

Even when Carol had once talked to her about sex, she had felt embarrassed, as if it was something dirty.

Even after lan had thoroughly explored her body, she still couldn’t accept that she had been forced to have a two–

day affair with another man after falling for lan.

She couldn’t bear to think about it, and it wasn’t just physical discomfort, but a heart–wrenching pain.

And the promise she had fought so hard to keep now seemed like a cruel joke.

In her dreams, she heard a gentle voice and felt a hand on her forehead.

“She has a slight fever, and an IV should do the trick.”

Maria looked at the young doctor, frantic with worry.

She had called Rosewood Manor’s private doctor, but he was out of town, so he sent a friend in his stead.

This so–called friend wore a mask and since it was his first time here, the bodyguards did a thorough check on her.

But he never took off his mask, claiming he had the flu and didn’t want to infect Maja.

So, in the end, he never took off the mask.
