Chapter 760

The next morning, the sun shone brightly.

Rachel woke up according to her biological clock. After washing up, she had a simple breakfast and set off for the

company.

After the morning meeting ended and she headed towards her office, she received a phone call from the butler, Mr.

Chadwick. “Miss Grey, it’s me.”

“Mr. Chadwick, what’s the matter?” Rachel held her breath when she answered the phone.

She had kept the news about Tom’s incident a secret from her grandfather.

Now that Mr. Chadwick was calling, did her grandfather find out?

Mr. Chadwick sensed the tension in Rachel’s voice and chuckled lightly. “It’s nothing. Old Mr. Johnson had been

wanting to see you for a while and wants you to come home for a meal when you’re free.

Rachel secretly breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing his words. “Maybe in a few days.”

She would go back home with Tom and the others then.

Mr. Chadwick replied, “Alright.”

After hanging up, Rachel held her phone and walked towards the

restroom.

As she approached the door, she faintly heard a low discussion inside. “Have you seen the news?”

“Are you talking about the news of the guy from the Johnson family who got arrested?”

“Who else could it be? I never thought someone so wealthy and powerful could be so shameless.”

“Who in this world would complain about having too much money? But just a short while ago, he was recognized as

one of the top ten outstanding individuals, and now he’s been caught doing all these things. It’s like a slap in the

face. Not to mention it happened so fast.”

Hearing this, Rachel paused in her footsteps, her brows furrowing slightly.

She remained silent, but her fists involuntarily tightened at her side. A chilling gaze flashed across her eyes.

Yesterday’s incident sparked a series of events, and the next day, the internet was flooded with news about Tom’s

incident.

Even though Rachel had tried her best to suppress and conceal the situation, it seemed like someone was working

against her, pushing harder and harder to make the news public.

She took a deep breath and stepped into the restroom.

Focused on their heat-up conversation, the two people inside were suddenly taken aback when they saw Rachel.

Their expressions changed instantly, and their eyes were filled with panic as they looked at her. “Ms. Grey…”

Rachel ignored them as if she didn’t overhear their conversation and walked straight into one of the stalls.

Seeing the situation, the two people outside the door panicked and quickly fled the restroom.

The problem wasn’t with the bystanders, who were following the news, but those behind the scenes orchestrating

everything.

Even if she reprimanded those two girls outside, she could not silence everyone’s gossip.

The only way to make everyone shut up was to gather solid evidence as quickly as possible.

The sooner, the better!

As Rachel exited the restroom, she coincidentally met Linda, who seemed in a hurry.

Seeing Linda hesitate to speak, Rachel sensed a bad feeling in her heart.

She furrowed her brows and spoke in a chilling tone. “Let’s go back to the office.”

Once they were back in the office, Linda quickly spoke up, “Ms. Grey,

No

we just received a call from the investigation team. They’ve ordered us to immediately stop the development of the

East City project and have our people undergo investigation.”

Rachel’s delicate face turned icy. “What’s the reason?”

“They suspect that the bidding by Johnson Corporation for the project was… was…” Linda couldn’t bring herself to

finish her sentence as she sized up Rachel’s cold and dark face.

Rachel sneered. “They suspect there was shady dealing involved, right?”

Upon hearing this, Linda lowered her gaze and fell silent.

The office fell into a heavy silence for a while, and the atmosphere. became more and more oppressive.

After some time, Linda’s phone suddenly rang.

She quickly answered the call, which was from the finance department.

“Ms. Galler, bad news! The bank has frozen all our company’s accounts!”

Hearing this, Linda subconsciously lifted her gaze to look at Rachel.

She pursed her lips and said calmly, “I got it.”

After hanging up the phone, she looked at Rachel’s somber expression and didn’t know how to speak for a moment.

Rachel took a deep breath and said indifferently, “Keep an eye on the company these few days.”

“Okay.”

After leaving the company, Rachel went straight to Lucky Entertainment Center.

The situation now had exceeded her expectations.

She had thought now that Tom was in trouble, others would hold back their ambitions to take over the Johnson

family until the situation was thoroughly investigated and resolved. However, now it seemed everyone was trying to

take advantage of the situation and bring down the Johnsons as quickly as possible, with no restraint or

consideration.

It was as if they had already decided on the fate of the Johnson family in their minds.

Rachel’s expression became even darker as she thought of this.

Guarding the door, Billy saw Rachel and quickly approached her. “Miss Grey, we obtained some information from

him early this morning.”

Rachel looked down at the recorder Billy handed her. “Open the door.”

“Yes.”

After being tortured by drugs last night, Harold had already lost his former gentle and weak appearance.

His face was pale, and his eyes were blurred. He was curled up in the corner of the sofa, looking disheveled.

When he heard footsteps outside the door, he became slightly dazed for a second.

As soon as Rachel appeared, Tom’s eyes contracted, and he trembled uncontrollably.

“You… What exactly do you want?” Harold’s voice was hoarse as if he had torn his vocal cords.

Rachel pulled over a chair, sat down, elegantly crossed her legs, and looked at him expressionlessly. “As you wished,

the Johnson family’s situation is not optimistic now.”

“What does this have to do with me?” Harold gritted his teeth and tried to suppress the emotions surging in his

heart. “Your people tortured me for a confession last night, and I’ve said everything I know. What more do you

want?”

“Torture for a confession…” Rachel repeated meaningfully. “Do you know what that means? If we really tortured

you for a confession, do you think you’d be sitting here now? Although my family has been dedicated to

philanthropy these years, we’re not pushovers for anyone to bully. If you offend the Johnson family, you should

know you might not be able to walk away unscathed.”

“Harold Durham, out of respect for my uncle, I’ll give you one last chance to tell me everything you know.”

Harold stared at Rachel with a malicious gaze. “I’ve already told you everything. You can’t force me to say more!”

Rachel took out an MP3 recorder and listened to Harold’s confession.

Her eyes were calm, but she oozed a dangerous and alluring aura, like blooming poppies. “Do you take me for a

fool?”

Harold’s gaze flickered slightly. His heart felt like it was being squeezed, and his breathing hitched.

“When your parents died suddenly and left you as a young child unable to hold onto their vast wealth, you became

angry and sued all your relatives. But according to the law, you had indeed lost your inheritance rights. As direct

relatives, your grandparents were obligated to act as your guardians to manage your share of the inheritance.

After they passed away, your uncles and aunts naturally had the right to inherit the leftover inheritance as their

children.”

“Even though you were dissatisfied, you should have known the law is always impartial, and you can’t blame my

uncle for that.”
