Chapter 749

Rachel drove the car all the way to a private cemetery.

This was the resting place that her grandfather had chosen for her mother.

As her mother’s ashes had been stolen in the past, the cemetery was now guarded 24 hours a day.

Rachel was slightly stunned when she arrived.

She had originally planned to drive the car out for a spin, but for some reason, she ended up here.

After a moment, her lips curled into a self-deprecating smile.

She thought to herself, “Admit it. You keep saying that you hated her all these years, but you still really miss her.”

Rachel pursed her lips and gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands. She pressed her forehead against

the steering wheel.

At this moment, there was a knock on the car window.

Rachel quivered in shock. Her clear almond-shaped eyes revealed a rare blank and absent-minded look.

She suddenly raised her head and slowly lowered the car window. She saw Ronnie, who was dressed in white.

“Why are you here?” Rachel looked at Ronnie with a probing gaze.

Ronnie let out a slight smile. “I’m here to pay my respects to a close relative.”

This place was surrounded by mountains and rivers. It was an excellent final resting place, which was why many

people chose to set up a private cemetery here.

Hearing his words, Rachel did not think too much about it.

“What about you?” Seeing that Rachel was silent, Ronnie asked patiently, “Are you here to pay your respects too?”

Rachel was stunned for a moment before she slowly nodded.

“I suppose so,” she thought.

“Here’s a little something for you,” Ronnie said. He took out a box from his pocket. “I hope you like it.”

He did not give Rachel a chance to reject it and threw the box in through the car window.

He did not forget to say as he left, “Rachel, it’s a pleasure meeting you.”

This sentence came out of nowhere, making Rachel confused.

She had only met Ronnie a few times and their interactions had not been overly friendly every time they met.

Moreover, Ronnie and David were like fire and water, eternally at odds with each other. Therefore, she really could

not figure out where the phrase “It’s a pleasure meeting you” came from.

At the same time, Eddie suddenly received a message from Chris. He frowned slightly after reading the contents of

the message. He stood up and walked to David’s side, then leaned over and whispered, “Sir, Chris just sent a

message. Miss Grey went to the private cemetery and Ronnie appeared there.”

The previous sentence was not important. Only the last bit of the sentence

was.

Ronnie and David were bitter enemies. As his trusted aides, they knew that very well.

Ronnie had approached Rachel without reason. Could it be that he planned to harm Rachel since he could not do

anything to David?

David looked at him deeply. “Get Billy to go over and keep an eye on them.”

“Understood.”

Rachel took the box that Ronnie had tossed into the car and saw a small card on it.

She flipped over the card and her pupils dilated when she saw the contents.

On the card were the words “Happy Birthday” written in cursive.

However, what shocked her the most was not that Ronnie knew her birthday, but that the handwriting on it was

exactly the same as the handwriting on the

package sent by the mysterious person.

Could it be that Ronnie was the one who sent the bottle of medicine?

But how did he know what she needed?

No one knew the cause of her illness. The Johnson family could not find anything even after spending a lot of

money on famous doctors all around the world.

Even if Ronnie happened to know the cause of her illness, how could he have concocted the medicine to soothe her

symptoms in such a short time?

For a moment, countless guesses arose in Rachel’s heart, but she could not find a reasonable explanation.

Rachel slowly leaned against her seat. After pondering for a long time, she opened the door and got out of the car.

She quickly found her mother’s tombstone according to the location Lucas mentioned.

In front of the tombstone was a bouquet of Sophia’s favorite white tulips, and there were traces of incense burning

in front of the brazier.

Rachel quickly went forward to check. The brazier was still warm.

Clearly, the person who burned the incense had left not long ago.

However, she had stopped at the entrance of the cemetery for a long time. The only person she saw near the

cemetery was Ronnie.

For some reason, Ronnie’s words appeared in her mind.

So, Ronnie was here to pay his respects to her mother?

She thought, “Close relative…

“Is my mother related to Ronnie by blood?”

Rachel stood rooted to the ground in a daze. She quietly looked at the photo of the woman on the tombstone and

could not help but sigh deeply. “To be honest, I really do hate you.”

All these years, she could not figure out why her mother had given birth to her

if she did not love her.

Since she had given birth to her, why did she abandon her by killing herself?

Her mother’s face had turned blurry in her memory, but she vaguely

remembered that her mother had taught her how to play the piano, dance, and

draw…

However, these memories could never compare to the memories of her mother lying coldly in front of her.

She did not know if it was because she missed that feeling in her heart or because time had washed away the

hatred in her heart, but she slowly sat in front of the tombstone just like how she had squatted by her mother’s feet

to play like she did when she was young.

Time passed. In the blink of an eye, it was noon.

Rachel placed her palms on the cold ground and slowly stood up. She walked

toward the stairs.

As if suddenly remembering something, she turned around and looked at Sophia on the tombstone. “I met a man.

His name is David. I’ll bring him to see you next year if I have the chance.”

As she was leaving, her phone suddenly rang.

Rachel narrowed her eyes when she saw it was an unknown caller ID. She had some guesses as to who it was.

She swiped the screen with her fingertips and hung up.

On the other end of the line, Hans’s expression darkened when he heard “Sorry, the number you have dialed is

temporarily unavailable”. He slammed his phone on the table.

He thought, “You little bitch!

“You hang up on me time and time again.

“You’ve truly grown up. She no longer cares about me, her father!

“I would have let you freeze to death on that snowy day back them if I had known that you’re such a heartless

creature!”

Hans picked up the cigarette box on the table, shook out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep puff.

After pondering for a long time, he picked up his phone and called his

assistant. “How’s the investigation going?”

“Miss Grey has been away from home for many years. It’s quite difficult for us to investigate. Furthermore…”

Hearing the person on the other end stutter, Hans’s voice was tinged with anger. “Furthermore what?”

Hearing this, the assistant on the other end of the phone did not dare to hesitate. “Furthermore, I could not find

anything at all even when I investigated based on Miss Grey’s name. It seems like someone has deliberately hidden

Miss Grey’s personal information.”

Hans held a cigarette between his fingers. White smoke covered his face, hiding his gloomy expression.

After pondering for a long time, he said calmly, “Call your guys back.”

“Don’t you want to continue the investigation?” the assistant blurted out.

Hans snorted. “Since you know that someone is protecting her, what can you find out even if you continue to

investigate?”

He paused for a moment, and his eyes flickered with a shrewd and calculating light. “Book me a plane ticket to

Seaxas!”

Since his men could not find anything, he would investigate Rachel himself.

It had not been easy for him to find some value he could extract from Rachel. How could he let her go so easily?
