Chapter 171 Mikayla didn’t bother to explain to Amy.

“I'm busy, that’s all.” She went upstairs promptly.

In order to avoid Jerome, she moved to the guest room with just her laptop to work on the project proposal.

She was stuck after just a few hours, which was inevitable since she hasn't personally gone to inquire about the research.

She hadn’t been able to cup with specific data, and she felt like something was off with her work.

Just as Mikayla pondered on scheduling a meeting with Baldwin, a shadow loomed over her.

Glancing up, she was astonished to find Jerstanding next to her.

She attempted to close her laptop, but it was too late.

“Why are you working on information from Professor Xander’s research institute?” Mikayla was unfazed.

Since she could no longer hide it from him, she replied, “I thought their pharmaceutical products have great market potential. Id like to ask him to grantthe distribution rights.” “Grant you the distribution rights?” Jerfrowned. “Why are you suddenly interested in this?” “You invested in them. That means you see a bright future for their products, so it’s not entirely surprising that my interest is piqued as well, isn’t it?” He chanced a glance at her.

“Things aren't as easy as you think. Don’t meddle’in Professor Xander’s affairs.” Mikayla understood his implication.

He probably thought that she was meddling with his project to spite him.

“Well, I'm determined, she snorted. “Don’t you dare get in my way!” Suppressing his bubbling frustration, Jerasked, “Their latest medicine isn’t on the market, and no one can guarantee its future. What if it’s not profitable? What are you going to do then?” “It doesn’t matter. If it's not profitable, I still have you.” Mikayla flashed a provocative smile at him. “You said your money belongs toas well since we're a couple.” The silence between them stretched on before Jersnorted.

“You're clever, aren't you?” “Of course! I'd be out of my mind if | don’t put my resources to use.” She was bold enough to reveal her intentions, not fearing the possibility of Jermaking a move before her.

Her final aim was to prevent Kylie or Jensen from acquiring the distribution rights, after all.

The rest didn’t really matter to her.

“What are you doing here?” Mikayla finally remembered to ask him.

Jerreplied nonchalantly, “It's getting late, so you should sleep soon. I'm a light sleeper, and I'm worried that you might wakeup.” She itched to rebuke him.

If he was a light sleeper, he could've just gone back to his room..

Why did he have to move to the master bedroom? Wanda couldn't have installed surveillance cameras in their room, so it simply wasn’t possible for her to track where he was sleeping.

Jerome, however, had becquite persistent lately.

If she refused, he would threaten her with Wanda and Eduard.

It was truly unexpected.

Back then, she was the one/coercing him with their elders.

But now, it has bechis move.

Just how the tables had turned, huh? Since Mikayla was getting nowhere with her work, she closed her laptop and went back to her room.

Meanwhile, Jersauntered behind her.

It felt uncanny.

It was as if a husband was waiting for his busy wife to get in bed with him.

She strode into the bathroom with her clothes.

Jerwas already asleep in bed after she stepped out of the shower, so she took her twith skincare and drying her hair.

Once she made sure that he was fully asleep, she finally tucked herself under the sheets.

In the past, when they were sleeping in the sroom, Mikayla either slept on her chaise lounge chair, or she was too inebriated or sleepy to even realize that he was next to her.

Now, she was clearly aware that they were in the sbed, with only the sheets separating them.

She could feel his breathing.

His scent wafted in the air.

Having been used to spending the night alone, she felt uneasy.

It was too late for Jerto go to his study as well, so Mikayla could only count sheep to lull herself to sleep.
