Chapter 863 Alondra was trembling all over from Mrs. Ritter's actions, but she held back.
She chuckled softly, "Mrs. Ritter, | heard that you were charged with intentional injury during the Graley Piano Competition? Oh my, how did you be released so quickly?" Mrs. Ritter's face immediately turned very unpleasant.
In the past, she framed her own older sister, and the Spencer family didn't let her off the hook.
She also caused Jenna to stumble and fall, and the Wright family didn't let her off the hook either.
She was directly detained and even imprisoned for it.
But... money talks.
Plus Donovan was also involved in various ways and spent a considerable amount of money while also using many connections to finally get her out.
Fortunately, it was a short time and she did not suffer much.
However... the Ritter family also lost a building to the Wright family which went directly under Jenna's name before this matter could be considered finished.
Just thinking about how the Ritter family gave Jenna a building made her into a landlady made Mrs. Ritter itch with anger.
Urgford is an area where every inch is valuable; even a two-bedroom apartment costs millions, let alone an entire building! Mrs. Ritter wanted to belittle Alondra but ended up being stung by Alondra instead.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe held back her breath in her chest as she couldn't swallow anything anymore.
Ashlyn tugged at her sleeve and smiled as she said to Alondra, "Ms. Wolfe, my father still has some connections after all. The Ritter family is not insignificant either. My mother was just momentarily confused and didn't do anything outrageous. It was originally a trivial matter, but outsiders might think my mother committed some grave offense!" Ashlyn's words not only provided a reasonable explanation that Mrs. Ritter hadn't done anything wrong, but also subtly showcased the connections of the Ritter family.
Being able to bring someone back even after committing a crime abroad was quite an ability.
Mrs. Ritter immediately cast an appreciative glance at her daughter.
Alondra glanced at the mother and daughter, a fake smile appearing on her face. "Well, that's great, Mrs. Ritter. It's fortunate that you came out of this situation unscathed. However, forgive me for speaking out of turn, but it's best to keep a low profile in life.
Otherwise, even walking on a deserted road might encounter ghosts." To put it nicely, she was showing concern for Mrs. Ritter, but anyone could hear the sarcasm in her words.
Mrs. Ritter's face turned green with anger.
But she held back, taking another glance at Sabrina and thinking about her liking Jonathan. "I heard that Jonathan, your sister's son, is getting close to Sylvia. Why don't | play matchmaker and introduce him to a high society lady, who is also a wealthy heiress? She would be better than Sylvia, who is already married." Sabrina's face turned pale, Mrs. Ritter is really a big mouth! "Mrs. Ritter is so concerned about my son's marriage, one would think she wants to marry her daughter off to him!" Just then, a voice tinged with sarcasm came through.
A middle-aged woman dressed elegantly and nobly was walking towards them, carrying an LV handbag.
The woman was dressed simply and elegantly, yet still exuded an air of nobility.
Behind her was a young man, and their similar features made it clear that they were mother and son.
"Tiana, do you really need to use such harsh language?" Mrs. Ritter rolled her eyes. "I'm doing this for the good of your family too. Sylvia is already married." "My boss will always be my boss, | dare not have any improper thoughts about her," Jonathan said with a disdainful expression.
"Unlike some people, who always have dirty thoughts in their minds." "Who are you cursing at! Why are you so rude?" Mrs. Ritter's eyes were about to pop out in anger, Jonathan was really something else.
"Whoever disgusts me, | will curse them!" Jonathan laughed with a smug expression.
"Jonathan, let's go inside," Tiana said casually as she fanned the air. "The air here is really too polluted.” "You! You!" Mrs. Ritter was so angry that she couldn't speak.
The meaning behind Tiana is clear - wherever she is, the air becomes foul.
Damn it! Why are this mother and son so hateful! Tiana took two steps forward and suddenly turned her head to look at Mrs. Ritter, "Oh, by the way, | forgot to ask Mrs. Ritter. | remember hearing rumors last year that Adriel was going to adopt Miss Ritter as his goddaughter. Is Miss Ritter today's leading lady?" Alondra was taken aback when she heard this. "Why haven't | heard about this before?" "You are obsessed with studying every day, so it's normal if you haven't heard of it," Tiana said with a smile. "Mrs. Ritter? If it's Miss Ritter, then congratulations in advance." Alondra smiled, feeling like something was off about the situation. If it really was Ashlyn and her mother, why were they jumping up and down like that? Tiana must have been intentionally provoking them earlier.
But as they entered the room, Alondra's mood improved. "Come on Mom, let's go in," said Sabrina.
"Forget it," Ashlyn said with a red face. She was angry and frustrated as she growled at Mrs. Ritter: "Last year my dad proposed to Adriel that he adopt me as his goddaughter but Adriel refused! How did this get out?" "I don't know! No one from our family would say anything outside!" Mrs. Ritter became angrier as she thought about it more: "We can't attend this banquet anymore; let's go back!" Ashlyn didn't want to give up so easily though. "No way, we have to go! | want to see what kind of daughter he adopted. Is she better than me? I'll make him regret it!" Crown Techs Group was ahead of many other technology companies and held a leading position in the industry.
So the Ritter family had always wanted to form an alliance with Crown Techs Group but unfortunately... Adriel had a peculiar temper and wasn't interested in most people.
Ashlyn believed herself talented, beautiful, and from a good family background - perfect all around. She just couldn't stand someone taking away what belonged rightfully to her.
The mother-daughter duo rushed into the banquet hall where Adriel's assistant led them over to Alondra and Sabrina's table which mostly consisted of wives from several familiar families who greeted Mrs. Ritter and Ashlyn without much enthusiasm before returning back into their own conversations once again.
Mrs. Ritter felt green with envy; Are these boring and trivial topics really that interesting? Keeping these old women engrossed in endless conversation? She cursed silently in her mind, only to see Alondra stretching her neck and looking towards the center.
In the center, there was a small stage, tastefully decorated. The entire banquet hall had a warm atmosphere, exuding a sense of home rather than excessive luxury.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Oh look! He's here!" exclaimed one wife suddenly.
All eyes immediately turned towards the entrance as Adriel walked in with a smile on his face. He was accompanied by the Wright family, Jenna, Sylvia, and Franklin and Jasper.
Everyone was a bit shocked.
"Where are all the high society ladies?" someone asked.
"Is Sylvia Adriel's goddaughter?" another person wondered aloud.
"Sylvia?" Mrs. Ritter and Ashlyn both looked visibly uncomfortable at the mention of her name. Even Alondra and Sabrina seemed uneasy. None of them wanted to see Sylvia around too often.
Alondra glared at Sylvia with disgust in her eyes but knew she couldn't do anything about it - which only made her more frustrated.
Adriel was in high spirits and walked up to the small stage with excitement evident in his voice as he picked up the microphone: "Without further ado, let me introduce you to my goddaughter.” Everyone held their breaths, staring intently at Adriel for fear of missing something important.
And then... Adriel turned to Jenna wearing a white dress and said: "Come here, Jenna." Jenna blushed but walked over gracefully nonetheless. She had an elegant appearance that exuded purity and gracefulness, making everyone like her instantly just by standing next to Adriel on stage.
Ashlyn couldn't believe what she saw; almost breaking into tears as she exclaimed, "Isn't she supposed to be Wright Family's goddaughter?" Her outburst drew everyone's attention towards her, causing people around them to whisper amongst themselves about Ashlyn's behavior being inappropriate for such an occasion.
Ashlyn quickly sat down, feeling embarrassed about what she had done; wondering why everything good always seemed to happen for Jenna instead of herself? "Ashlyn," Mrs. Ritter scolded her daughter while also feeling embarrassed herself due to Ashlyn's actions. "Just wait patiently." "But Mom..." Ashlyn still couldn't accept that Jenna kept winning against her every time they were compared side-by-side. Not even realizing how much inferiority complex had already taken root inside of herself when it came down between comparing herself against others like Sylvia or even Jenna who had nothing but good things going for them all along! But now, she was being slapped in the face by Jenna again and again.
She... she was about to explode with anger.
Adriel didn't pay attention to Ashlyn's craziness. He just calmly spoke up, "Jenna is my daughter from today on. In the future, don't let me hear any news of anyone bullying her. Bullying her is bullying me!" "She will be the Wright family's daughter-in-law in the future, my goddaughter!" This blatant show of support was simply too indulgent and powerful.
Some people who wanted to flatter Adriel were envious and jealous.
